John Slavin Award 2016 BAFANL Season BAFRA awards the John Slavin Trophy in even-numbered years to the team with the best marked field. This includes correct field dimensions, correct line and other markings, correct size goal posts, correct positioning of pylons and the condition of the field surface. The title is awarded to the team that has comes out best in an audit carried out by BAFRA members at each game. A perfect facility scores 0. The award is named after John Slavin. John was a long-serving BAFRA official and sometime director of the Association who sadly died in October 2005. In his memory, BAFRA has dedicated an award made to a team that shows commitment to improving the game experience for players and fans, as well as officials. The top-performing teams in the BAFANL 2016 season were as follows: Berkshire Renegades 1.0 Overall winners and Division 2 winners Ipswich Cardinals 1.6 Wembley Stallions 4.6 Lancashire Wolverines 11.4 Premier Division winners Halton Spartans 12.5 Ouse Valley Eagles 15.0 Division 1 winners Cambridgeshire Cats 16.6 Hertfordshire Cheetahs 17.0 Jurassic Coast Raptors 18.6 Bury Saints 18.8 Aberdeen Roughnecks 22.6 Walney Terriers 23.2 Nottingham Caesars 24.8 Essex Spartans 25.6 Dundee Hurricanes 26.6 Humber Warhawks 29.7 Farnham Knights 29.8 Staffordshire Surge 30.4 Colchester Gladiators 31.3 Yorkshire Rams 32.3 Overall in the BAFANL Senior Season, all teams averaged 45.57. We have had a strong off-season recruitment with over 75 players registered with both the A and B Teams. We have also had several new coaches join the ranks, with Matt Smith and Jon Goddard joining the staff on the A team, and Derrell Jennings and Chad Austin joining the B team. We have also retained the majority of last season’s staff. We have also had the privilege of guest coaches come down to help at training, including Ed Morgan, Aaron Sanders and Jason Brisbane, which has been an inspiration to the players. We have had a couple players depart to go and challenge themselves in Europe with Glen Toonga, last year’s offensive MVP going to the Dresden Monarchs in the GFL 1 and already making an impact helping the team to a 2-0 start. Kodjo Davis has gone out to play for the Helsinki Roosters in the Vaahteraliga in Finland.

This includes prompt provision of properly attired and effective chain crew and ball boys, spectator facilities such as covered seats, a scoreboard and a referee’s microphone and a game day manager available to the officiating crew from when they arrive. The title is awarded to the team that has comes out best in an audit carried out by BAFRA members at each game. A perfect facility scores 0. The award is named after John Slavin. John was a long-serving BAFRA official and sometime director of the Association who sadly died in October 2005. It feels so good to say that after a year on the road, carrying kit and arranging players to venture to all corners of London and beyond to practice and play the game we love. Finsbury Park, we will never take you for granted again. Since we've been gone, the members of the Finsbury Park Sports Partnership have worked incredibly hard in developing this facility into one befitting of all the teams and clubs that use it. With a new field, athletics track and field sports facilities, the stadium is becoming a beacon of competitive activity in north London. Today brings both the A and B team together for a double header of fixtures. The B team has seen significant development in the off season and promises to put together a strong campaign in 2017. Led by quarterback Chris Walker, who enjoyed a fantastic preseason, there are a number of players, new and old(er) that have been dedicated to improving their position in the league.

John Slavin Award 2010 BAFRA awards the John Slavin Trophy in even-numbered years to the team with the best marked field. This includes correct field dimensions, correct line and other markings, correct size goal posts, correct positioning of pylons and the condition of the field surface. The title is awarded to the team that has comes out best in an audit carried out by BAFRA members at each game. A perfect facility scores 0. In 2008, when the Trophy was last awarded on this basis, it was won by Oxford Saints. This year saw Bedfordshire Blue Raiders take the title in a close-run contest with fellow Division 2 team Berkshire Renegades. The best team in Division 1 was Cambridgeshire Cats and in the Premier, London Blitz. The Youth award went to Tamworth Phoenix. The overall average for adult teams was 33.48. The average for Division 2 and Premier Teams was similar at 31.56 and 31.82 respectively with Division 1 teams averaging 36.32. The average for youth teams was 44.81. The award is named after John Slavin. John was a long-serving BAFRA official and sometime director of the Association who sadly died in October 2005. In his memory, BAFRA has dedicated an award made to a team that shows commitment to improving the game experience for players and fans, as well as officials. If you are assigned to one of their home games, to ensure you are paid , after the game can the Referee or one other official please complete the online Crew Request for Payment Form, and I will arrange for the officials to be paid. Note due to potential changes to crews, any requests for payment received before the game is played will be ignored. Andrew Lovell [email protected] REMINDERS Just a quick reminder that: 1. Whatever the length of the field, even if it is 80 yards (or 78!), the kick off spot is the 30-yard line. When the Rules Committee standardised this last year, it was so that the distance that the receiving team had to return the ball for a touchdown was the same regardless of the length of the field. 2. On Premier Division games, if there is a 5-man crew, all qualified officials are paid £40. Also, the league's replacement plan for roster forms seems to be working OK. There is therefore no longer a need for referees to send in the rosters with the rest of the game day paperwork. However, as per previous practice, referees should retain the roster forms for at least 7 days after a game before disposing of them. This is in case a query arises. This game marks the mid way point of the regular season and the Blitz so far remain undefeated. The last home game saw a fiercely competitive contest between the Blitz and the Warriors, with the Blitz eking out victory 14-13. As exciting as the victory was for the team, we well know that the Warriors have had our number over the last few years and any excess confidence would be misplaced. But that was then and this is now. The Aztecs continue to step up their game and fight competitive games with the whole of the league. With an influx of youthful talent they promise to be gunning for the top spots in the division both this year and in the seasons to come. It was a home game vs. Bristol last year where the Blitz suffered defeat and it is going to take a great effort to achieve a victory this week. The Blitz B are also riding high off a string of victories and face a Stallions team that has handed them their one loss so far.
