Razpad Jugoslavije in vpliv rock 'n' rolla v protivojnih akcijah v Srbiji v devetdesetih letih prejšnjega stoletja Diplomsko delo obravnava tematiko razpada Jugoslavije in vpliv rocka v protivojnih akcijah v Srbiji. Vojne na območju nekdanje Jugoslavije so v srbski družbi pustile neizbrisen pečat. Vojna kultura ni vplivala samo na razmah kriminala temveč je močno zaznamovala tudi glasbeno sceno. Protivojne akcije so bile relativno pogoste; vojni situaciji so se upirale različne organizacije, ki so z akcijami opozarjale na nesmiselnost vojne in njene posledice. Prav tako so protivojno držo izražali posamezni rock glasbeniki, ki so izvedli nekaj uspešnih projektov. Najodmevnejši projekt je skupina Rimtutituki, ki je v februarju 1992 posnela pacifistično pesem Slušaj 'vamo (Poslušaj) z eksplicitnim sporočilom. Rock ni preprečil tragičnega konca SFRJ, to niti ni bil namen, brez dvoma pa izpeljani glasbeni projekti predstavljajo velik uspeh in iskro upanja vsem narodom nekdanje skupne države. -

The Croatian film critic and media connoisseur Željko Luketić presents his favorite songs and clips. The trend of officially published compilations of Yugoslav electronic music started arguably in 2010 when Subkulturni Azil from Maribor, Slovenia, released the Ex Yu Electronica Vol I: Hometaping in Self-Management vinyl on its Monofonika label, followed by the Vol II: Industrial Electro Bypasses in the North – In Memoriam Mario Marzidovšek, dedicated solely to Slovenian scene. Here are some of the artist featured on these two vinyls, whose creativity and innovation, as well as sheer volume of music production and distribution effort remain unmatched to this day. Box 1346 Ann Arbor, Ml 48106-1346 2 Abstract This thesis employs historical, literary and anthropological methods to show how narratives of identity have been expressed in Croatia since 1991 (when Croatia declared independence from Yugoslavia) through popular music and through talking about popular music. Since the beginning of the war in Croatia (1991-95) when the state media stimulated the production of popular music conveying appropriate narratives of national identity, Croatian popular music has been a site for the articulation of explicit national narratives of identity. The practice has continued into the present day, reflecting political and social change in Croatia (e.g. the growth of the war veterans lobby and protests against the Hague Tribunal). -

Sadrži dva dijela – publikaciju i fanzin koji prikazuju teoretsko i praktično poimanje u kombinaciji kao rezultat razumijevanja teme koja je postavljena unutar razdoblja socijalističke Jugoslavije. Ta dva dijela funkcioniraju kao jedan element unutar drugog, to jest, fanzin se nalazi unutar publikacije koja prati istraživanje navedene teme. Kroz proces istraživanja, stvorila se želja za dokumentiranjem i upoznavanjem simbioze glazbe i dizajna jednog razdoblja. -

FOR THE HOMELAND: TRANSNATIONAL DIASPORIC NATIONALISM AND THE EUROVISION SONG CONTEST SLAVIŠA MIJATOVIĆ A THESIS SUBMITTED TO THE FACULTY OF GRADUATE STUDES IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF MASTER OF ARTS GRADUATE PROGRAM IN GEOGRAPHY YORK UNIVERSITY TORONTO, CANADA December 2014 © Slaviša Mijatović, 2014 Abstract This project examines the extent to which the Eurovision Song Contest can effectively perpetuate discourses of national identity and belonging for diasporic communities. This is done through a detailed performance analysis of former Yugoslav countries’ participations in the contest, along with in-depth interviews with diasporic people from the former Yugoslavia in Malmö, Sweden. The analysis of national symbolism in the performances shows how national representations can be useful for the promotion of the state in a reputational sense, while engaging a short-term sense of national pride and nationalism for the audiences. More importantly, the interviews with the former Yugoslav diaspora affirm Eurovision’s capacity for the long-term promotion of the ‘idea of Europe’ and European diversities as an asset, in spite of the history of conflict within the Yugoslav communities. This makes the contest especially relevant in a time of rising right-wing ideologies based on nationalism, xenophobia and racism. ‘It’s all the same, only he’s not here’?: popular music and political change in post- Tuñman Croatia Dr Catherine Baker University of Southampton Abstract: While Franjo Tuñman was the president of Croatia (1990–99), popular music and other forms of entertainment were heavily structured around the key presidential narratives: Croatia’s political and cultural independence from Yugoslavia, and the idea that Croatia’s war effort had been purely defensive. After Tuñman, the Croatian music industry had to cope with media pluralism and the transnational challenges of the digital era. Patriotic popular music expressed an oppositional narrative of Euroscepticism and resistance to the Hague Tribunal, yet Croatia retained and expanded its position in the transnational post-Yugoslav entertainment framework, undermining a key element of Tuñman’s ideology. ‘It’s all the same, only he’s not here’?: popular music and political change in post- Tuñman Croatia In September 2002, after another summer of protests against the government extraditing Croatian generals to the Hague Tribunal, the musician Marko Perković Thompson opened his concert at the Poljud stadium in Split by projecting a video which featured himself, the singer Ivan Mikulić and the Slavonian tamburica ensemble Najbolji hrvatski tamburaši. 1 The song, called ‘Sveto tlo hrvatsko’ (‘Holy Croatian soil’), lauded the late Croatian president Franjo Tuñman, who had died in December 1999. The men sang of Tuñman’s achievements and the sudden appearance of critics who had not dared to defy him when he was alive, and Thompson, a veteran of the Homeland War, contributed a verse remembering the days when friend had stood together with friend to defend Croatia. -

Karijera Milana Mladenovića i Ekatarine Velike usamljen je i jedinstven primer pravovremenog - mada ne baš u idealnom tajmingu - otkrivanja istinske vrednosti. Iz zalihe tog pozitivnog ekscesa okruženje jugoslovenske rok scene moći će još dugo da crpi dragocene deliće dostojanstva. Oblikujući ovu biografsku priču o Milanu Mladenoviću, koga sam neobično voleo i cenio, želeo sam da izbegnem sve što bi moglo narušiti onu vrstu privatnosti do koje je njemu uvek bilo stalo. Želeo sam, pre svega, da napišem knjigu koja bi mogla obradovati samog Milana i one koji su ga poznavali mnogo bolje od mene. Mnogi ljudi pomogli su da Mesto u mećavi izgleda ovako. Svi se oni s lakoćom prepoznaju u knjizi i siguran sam da neće zameriti što tu posebnu vrstu saučesništva ne želim da remetim nabrajanjem imena. -
