Digital Pile and Carpet Printing: Possibilities and Limitation Roland Zimmer and Thomas Kloebl, Zimmer Austria Inc.

This session will provide principals of understanding for digitally printed carpets. Topics to be covered include building color shades using digital printing; the important relationships between print head, ink, droplet size, print resolution, pile weight, and penetration; methods to improve penetration, fastness properties and the importance of selecting the right dye or ink; and fixation processes for acid and disperse dyes. Examples of digital printing applications using high-pile products will also be presented (terry towels, blankets, tufted/woven carpets).

Principal understanding of how color shades are built using digital printing Relationships between ink amount, drop size, resolution, pile weight and penetration Influence and selection of printheads Penetration improvement using penetration Booster ink Importance of dye and ink selection for fastness properties Fixation process of acid dyes for polyamide and wool and fixation process of disperse dyes for polyester fibers Would pigment-printing or fixation without washing be an option?
