This book gives bold English Baker exemples of calligraphic abstraction and is one of the most "artistic" of Arthur Baker’s books. The 45 black and white plates range from playful abstractions in ink freely drawn with a brush to overlaid letterforms written with various split nibs and broad pens and the most interesting - cut-paper designs based on letter forms mounted on a black background. The notes on plates give some information to the materials used but there is virtually no description on pen angles or materials used other than "ink" or "gouache"; of interest to calligraphers. (C.
