Life in Tsinghua University Life in Tsinghua University Tsinghua University was founded in 1911, it is situated in a former royal garden “Tsinghua Garden”of Qing Dynasty in northwest Beijing which is surrounded by many historical sites such as the summer palace and YuanMingyuan. It is one of China’s most famous universities. It is very large and also very beautiful, its main part is more than 3 million square meters so nearly everyone have to ride every day. contents • A brief introduction about Tsinghua University. • Some beautiful view and some famous buildings in Tsinghua University. • The courses and the colorful activities in Tsinghua University • Something about myself: my daily life, the courses I have attended, my study and my research interest, my life as a counselor of some undergraduates and my ideal career. Life in Tsinghua University • Here on the left, it’s Tsinghua University’s flower, its name is Redbud whose flower is purple. so the color of Tsinghua University is purple and white. In the campus, you can see many things are purple, such as the school badge, the memorial T-shirt and the plates in the dining hall and so on. • On the right is a picture of the school badge, and the Chinese characters in the center of the school badge is the University’s motto, which means ‘Self-discipline and Social Commitment ‘. Life in Tsinghua University • Here is some pictures of the campus, the upper one on the left and the lower one in the middle are the same place, which is a part of the Lotus pond and is the most famous scene in the campus. The name “水木清华” is originally a part of a poem of a famous poet in Qing Dynasty. • The lower one on the left is a famous grassland in the campus and it has a romantic name” lovers’ ramp”. it’s very nice to sit on the grass o reading some books or have fun, so sometimes we study there or hold a small party over there. • The upper one in the middle is a picture taken in front of our old library and author gave it a name” the old library is always very beautiful”. • As you can see in the picture, there are so many bicycles. In fact, there are about 30 thousand bicycles or more as nearly everyone here have at least one bicycle. • The one on the right is a picture taken on the main road of the campus, the main road is long and straight, which connects the students’ dormitory and the south gate of the campus and was once a railway about 80 years ago. If you have noticed that there are some red things on the picture, they are the advertising banners in the campus, which are very popular and we can get lots of information from them such as some information about lectures, parties, conferences and so on. Life in Tsinghua University Here are also some pictures of the lotus pond. Life in Tsinghua University Here is another picture of the lotus pond and it’s called lotus bridge. Life in Tsinghua University Here are some other beautiful places in the campus .the upper one on the right is “Gongziting”, which is the office for the university’s leaders. it was originally built in 1762 and it was one of the major building of the Tsinghua Garden. the lower one on the left is the gate of Gongziting, the upper one on the left is a very beautiful road near the old library. The lower one on the right is a beautiful garden near our department building. Life in Tsinghua University Here is a picture taken in the morning which contains some famous buildings of the campus. And I will give a brief introduction to some of them, they are the second gate, the Tsinghua Xuetang,and the great hall. Life in Tsinghua University Here is a similar picture ,but it was taken in the snow. Life in Tsinghua University • These are two pictures of the old gate, the right one is a picture of the Old Gate in the 1930s and the left one is a picture taken recently. • It is often called “the second gate” as it is a gate inside the campus. it is the most famous building in Tsinghua which was built in 1911 and rebuilt in 1991 and it’s the earliest Tsinghua University gate. Nearly every day there are some people taking photos there, especially in summer holiday or winter holiday. Life in Tsinghua University • Here is the earliest building used for class , it is also a original building in Tsinghua’s early history. it is called “Tsinghua Xuetang” which is “清华学堂”in Chinese .and now it is used as offices. Life in Tsinghua University This is the great hall in the center of the campus, it was built in 1921 and now it is used for many activities, such as the graduation, screening movies, holding a concert and so on. The characters on the Sundial are Tsinghua University's motto , which means ‘Actions Speak Louder Than Words.’ • Here is a picture of the science building, which is one of my favorite buildings,it’s very interesting that it contains two connected parts, one is the building for mathematics and the other one is for physics. And my office is just in the center on the highest floor of the mathematical building. • Inside the science building ,there is a beautiful grass square. Sometimes we hold some parties there and every year there are some students holding their weddings there. Life in Tsinghua University • Here is another picture of the science building, the left one is building for physics and the right one is the building for mathematics. • Many buildings in the campus are this color and have a similar style such as the library. Life in Tsinghua University Here is a picture for our new library which was built in the 90’s in last century. it is connected to the old library and was built to match the old library. They together look like an opened book. Sometimes you may recognize them two to be one building as they are really very similar from the outside. Life in Tsinghua University • Here are also some pictures of the library. The upper one on the left is a beautiful fountain in front of the new library. • The students in Tsinghua University are very diligent, so you can always find some students studying in the campus. Life in Tsinghua University On the left is the picture of the old library .it has two very big reading rooms for the students. It’s many students’ favorite reading room and it’s also my favorite studying place. Life in Tsinghua University • There are many interesting courses in Tsinghua University and many colorful activities in arts, sports, associations, social practice and also diverse volunteer activities. All these are helpful for the students’ self-development ability. • The University requires all the students to attend some courses on literature, history, art, management, environment, foreign languages, sports and so on. • I enjoy the courses very much and also benefit from them very much,I can learn anything I’m interested in. For example, when I was a child, I have no chance to learn piano, but I can it in the university. and I also attended a short Japanese course last term. • There is a very famous group in the campus, it is the students’ art group which has about 800 members and contains some specialized teams, including the Millitary Band, the Traditional instruments orchestra ,the dance team and so on. Every year they give lot of wonderful performs in the campus. • Besides, there is another famous team, it’s the Tsinghua students’ sports team and it contains 37 groups in 26 sports with about 500 members. • Sports is very popular in Tsinghua University, and there is a very famous word in the campus’ we should try to work for our country for at least 50 years.’ Life in Tsinghua University • Some students are discussing problems with their foreign teachers. • Some students in the English Camp. Life in Tsinghua University Our dormitory and one of our sports ground. Students here love sports very much. I also love sports, my favorite sports are table tennis and badminton. Life in Tsinghua University Another picture of our dormitary Life in Tsinghua University • There are about 130 associations in the campus with respect to many aspects of the students’ life. • I ever joined three of them ,they are the Table Tennis Association , Students' Green Association and Students' red-cross Association. Life in Tsinghua University • For the first year, I have learnt many mathematical courses, including Differential Manifold, Riemannian Geometry, functional analysis, partial differential equations, differential topology, algebra topology. • And last term I began my research, now my research interest is on the rigidity and stability about the hypersurfaces with constant r-th mean curvature in space forms and on isotropic submanifolds in in space forms. • I also attended some seminars ,some lectures and summer school for mathematics. Life in Tsinghua University • Some pictures of my students. • I’m the counselor of them, they are on their second year and most of them are 4 years younger than me. • I have been good friends with them and they always help me a lot. I enjoy the life as a counselor which makes my life more interesting and colorful. Life in Tsinghua University A present given by my students on girls’ day of Tsinghua University,including a poem and a card,a toy and some flowers.

North Dakota State University May 10 2017 Committee Chair: Elizabeth H. Riorden Committee Co-chair: Michael McInturf Abstract China currently faces a significant challenge in the educational field. The class-teaching system and its congruent educational architecture are out-of-date. This study aims to determine how modern educational architecture in China developed into the current situation and explore a new typology of classroom building layout that would enhance the teaching-learning efficiency and quality. The new typology is developed based on the ancient teaching philosophy, while also learning from the experiences of the development and changes of educational architecture in China in each stage for the past 150 years. In this context, a classroom building is defined as the building at a campus that serves the function of teaching and learning with other supportive programs, not a building with only regular classrooms. To develop this typological layout in a classroom building, besides a series of historical materials, an in-person survey was also distributed to potential users of the chosen site. High school students and teachers were randomly given the survey and asked to express their concerns and thoughts of current campus and school buildings. The results show that integrative and interactive spaces that would provide complex functions are needed.
