KeikanMeguri Landscape Tour 景観めぐり See the city spots that were awarded the Aizu Wakamatsu Beautiful Landscape Award.

The Preservation of Beautiful Landscape Award: “Ozawa Rosoku-ten (Ozawa Candle Shop)”

This candle shop is a traditional shop selling Aizu painted candles. Its wooden building and warehouse are rare historical buildings that have been preserved since the Meiji Period. The shop welcomes customers with Omotenashi, warm customer service, with a shop curtain and a signboard that depict painted candles. (awarded in 2014)

Aoi no Gomon (The Hollyhock Crest) Before the Meiji period in , family crests represented a person’s family line, pedigree, and social status. It is said that there are approximately 10,000 types of family crests. Many of them have patterns and designs made up of plants or words. People can recognize the noble houses just by looking at the family crests. For example, the chrysanthemum crest represents the Imperial Family. Toyotomi Hideyoshi, a powerful feudal lord in the 16th century, had the paulownia crest. This time we will introduce the family crest of the Aizu .

The hollyhock crest is famous for being the family crest of the Tokugawa clan (the Shogun house). It appears in period dramas such as Mito Komon and Abarenbo Shogun as a symbol of authority. It has also been used by approved houses besides the Tokugawa family. There are some variations to the shapes of the hollyhocks, for example, two-leaved hollyhocks and three-leaved hollyhocks. Each crest has a different pattern of leaves and number of veins depending on the ▲ Shogun and house.
