Ek gaan nie probeer om ‘n terugblik te gee nie – daarvoor kan u maar net na die vorige nuusbriewe gaan. Dat ons leerders vanjaar weer puik presteer het op ‘n verskeidenheid van terreine is beslis so. Ons wil dan ook hiermee vir al die kampioene, maar ook vir al ons deelnemers, geluk wens met hulle besondere toewyding. Ons projekte wat hierdie jaar afgehandel is, sluit in die nuwe klaskamers in die ou “houtwerkblok”, die kleedkamers by die astro, die opgradering van die klaskamers langs Vissershok en die inrig van ‘n gimnasium by Vissershokvelde in die ou stoor. Ons begin eersdaags om die grootste deel van die ouditorium se dak te vervang, nuwe gras op die atletiekbaan en rugbyvelde te plant, een van ons krieketblaaie te vervang, die buiteveld van die A- krieketveld op te gradeer en dan ook om die area rondom die ouditorium op te gradeer. Laasgenoemde sluit o.a ook die uitbreiding van die parkeerarea in. Ons parkeerarea het heeltemaal ontoereikend geword. Ons het ook vanjaar vir die eerste keer kon “toer” met al ons verskillende wintersportsoorte. Die uittog met byna 600 mense was ‘n groot operasie, maar ek dink ook ‘n baie groot sukses. Ons sien uit daarna om nog vir baie jare met die Hoërskool Outeniekwa die soort betrekkinge te kan hê. Volgende jaar bied ons die Ko-Ed op die Groenpuntstadion aan. Dit is ook ‘n eerste, maar ons sien ook uit na die nuutjie. Ons getalle vir 2018 staan op 1 050 leerders en ons maak planne om te verseker dat ons, ons identiteit van ‘n skool waar elkeen iemand is te behou. Ons het nou beslis die punt bereik waar ons nie meer leerders kan inneem nie. Tydens ons afgelope begrotingsvergadering is daar ‘n baie mooi aanbieding gedoen oor waarheen ons op pad is met fasiliteite en die skool as entiteit. Die aanbieding is beskikbaar op die d6 Kommuni- keerder onder BRONNE / Algemeen en u kan dit gerus aflaai. 2 HOËRSKOOL DURBANVILLE UITGAWE 7/2017 UIT DIE KANTOOR: Lees dit asseblief sorgvuldig deur – ek glo dit sal baie van u vrae beantwoord. Ons graad 12’s se eksamen is ook amper op ‘n einde. Uitslae sal op 5 Januarie 2018 om 12:00 by die skool beskikbaar wees. Aan die einde van ‘n jaar moet ons ook afskeid neem van personeellede : Me L. Louw het in Maart vanjaar by ons aangesluit. Sy woon in die Paarl en het nou ‘n pos daar aanvaar. Me Kriel het ook vanjaar by ons aangesluit. Sy was in ‘n kontrakpos aangestel van die WKOD en die pos het nou ongelukkig verstryk. Ons wens die twee onderwysers alles van die beste toe op hulle pad vorentoe. Ons bedank hulle ook van harte vir hulle lojaliteit en die diens wat hulle gelewer het. Dan ten slotte : geniet die vakansie saam met u kind/ers. Indien u op reis gaan : reis veilig. Ons wens u almal ook ‘n besondere feesgety toe. Ons sien mekaar weer op 17 Januarie 2018 Groete G.L. Germishuys SKOOLHOOF 3 HOËRSKOOL DURBANVILLE UITGAWE 7/2017 DURBIE NUUS: DURBIE NAASWENNER VAN POORT KOMPETISIE LARA WOON SKRYWERS SLYPSKOOL BY Durbie naaswenner van Nasionale Poort skryfkompetisie. Lara van die Merwe het gedurende die laaste week van die Julie vakansie ‘n skrywers slypskool, wat deur die Universiteit van die Vrystaat aangebied was, bygewoon. Na afloop van die Poort Nasionale Skryfkompetisie is Lara as naaswenner aangewys. Sy is genooi na ‘n skryfkursus, waar hulle deur Prof. Hennie van Coller en die skrywer, Alexander Strachan toegespreek is oor literatuur en wenke oor skryfkuns. Durbies Netbal het vanjaar weer puik presteer. Die Durbies het vyf netbalspanne in die WP Superliga finale gehad. Die o14A, o15A en o16A’s het almal as WP Superliga wenners uitgetree, terwyl die o17A’s die silwer medalje gewen het en die o18B’s die brons. Baie dankie aan al ons afrigters en ondersteuners vir ‘n goeie seisoen. Baie geluk dogters, ons is trots op julle! #DurbiesNetbal 6 HOËRSKOOL DURBANVILLE UITGAWE 7/2017 DURBIE ADS: 7 HOËRSKOOL DURBANVILLE UITGAWE 7/2017 DURBIES HOU KUNSUITSTALLING DURBIES SE KUNSWERKE WORD UITGESTAL 17 & 18 Oktober 2017 - Hoërskool Durbanville Kuns- uitstalling. Die Hoërskool Durbanville het vanjaar drie Kuns kategoriewenners by die jaarlikse Tygerberg Eisteddfod opgelewer. Wehann Landsberg het weer vanjaar die Kuns kategorie gewen, hierdie keer die graad 11 kategorie, terwyl Grete Burger die graad 10 kategorie en Jana Traut die graad 9 kategorie gewen het. Op Dinsdag en Woensdag 17 en 18 Oktober 2017 het die Hoërskool Durbanville se kunsstudente hul kunswerke in die Gimnasium uitgestal. Dit is ongelooflik om te sien oor watter talent ons leerders beskik en dat hulle nie bang is om die perke te oorskry nie. Baie dankie aan Juffrou Herika Rebel wat die Kunsuitstalling gereël het en baie geluk aan een en elkeen van ons kunsstudente wie se kuns op uitstalling was. Dit is lekker om jul talente so te kan ervaar. #DurbiesKuns 8 HOËRSKOOL DURBANVILLE UITGAWE 7/2017 DURBIE NUUS: DURBIES HAAL WP ELITE RUGBYGROEP DURBIES OPGENEEM IN WP RUGBYGROEP Durbies haal WP o15 Elite Rugby- groep. Die Durbies se junior rugbyspanne het vanjaar kookwater rugby gespeel en dit was dus geen wonder dat vier van ons o15 rugbyspelers vanjaar opgeneem was in die WP o15 Elite Rugby- groep nie. Janlu Basson, Renaldo Ismail, Rowan Cloete en Corne Oliphant is almal vanjaar opgeneem in die WP o15 Elite Rugbygroep. Baie geluk seuns, ons is trots op julle. FOTO: V.l.n.r. Die mees onlangse sukses was die vier Durbies wat die WP o17 7’s Rugbyspanne gehaal het. Hierdie seuns het op 28 & 29 Oktober 2017 aan die Assupol Internasionale 7’s Rugbytoernooi deelgeneem. Vanjaar se gholfdag was weer moontlik gemaak deur Fair Cape Dairies in samewerking met Polyoak Packaging en SIG Combibloc Obeikan. ‘n Opwindende toevoeging vanjaar was - R100 000 vir ‘n kolskoot op die 13de putjie, geborg deur STP Brokers. Nogmaals baie dankie aan Fair Cape Dairies vir hul getroue ondersteuning. #FairCapeCharityGolfClassic 10 HOËRSKOOL DURBANVILLE UITGAWE 7/2017 DURBIE NUUS: DURBIE DASH HOËRSKOOL DURBANVILLE SE GROOTSTE FONDSINSAMELINGSPROJEK 28 Oktober 2017 – Durbie Dash Vanjaar se Durbie Dash was weer moontlik gemaak deur fantastiese borge. Dole, Just Property Durbanville, Ribbens Office National, Simply Store was vanjaar die hoofborge terwyl Jaguar & Landrover N1 Stad die nuwe motor- vennoot van die Durbie Dash is. Vanjaar se Durbie Dash het ‘n paar nuwe Mnr Johan Winterbach van JW Brands het toevoegings gehad, die grootste sekerlik dat verseker dat al die aksie, op die dag, verfilm die 90 km padroete ‘n “seeding event” vir die word met verskeie kameraspanne op Cape Town Cycle Tour was.

Our 2015 Grade 7 Farewell was a memorable and beautiful occasion touched with special moments in a tropical island atmosphere. Our MCs for the evening were Jeanne Blaisse and Teubes van Niekerk. They also delivered the Grade 7 Farewell Address on behalf of their peers, and spoke with fondness of the highlights, the people, and all that went into making their experience in Bridge House Prep so unforgettable. Katja van Dyk and Lloyd Phillips gave the vote of thanks and then invited their mums and dads to join them on the dance floor in the traditional “first waltz” of the evening. Our heartfelt thanks go to all who contributed to making the evening exceptional, and special mention must be made of our Grade 6 waitrons who acquitted themselves so professionally.     FIXTURES FINALISED FOR WORLD SCHOOLS FESTIVAL • Glenwood to kick-off the tournament against John McGlashan • Hosts Paul Roos to face two New Zealand sides • Grey College and Christchurch Boys’ High School renew rivalry The fixtures for the 2019 World Schools Festival have been released, with a host of mouth- watering matches expected to set the tournament alight at Paul Roos Gymnasium in Stellenbosch. The event will see ten South African teams take on ten sides from the rest of the world in a Ryder Cup-style competition, with the home schools determined to defend the crown they captured in the inaugural festival in 2018. KwaZulu-Natal outfit Glenwood, who finished 2018 as the third-ranked side in South Africa according to www.rugby365.com, will open the tournament against New Zealanders John McGlashan College, who will be making their debut at the festival. Saadiq Moolla and Matthew Black both attained seven distinctions out of seven subjects and a further ten matrics obtained six distinctions each. Saadiq Moolla was Rondeboschs' top matriculant and was placed first in the Western Cape in Additional Maths, first in Computer Studies, second in Physical Science and joint first in Maths and in Accounting. Le Roux van der Vyver achieved second place in Additional Mathematics . James Wallace and Michael Leroy were in first and third place respectively in Metalwork and Matthew Hichens second in Design. The Premier of the Western Cape presented the School with an award for having the highest number of higher grade Physical Science passes in the province. This is the second consecutive year that Rondebosch received this honour. 150 candidates wrote the examinations. Matriculation Passes with A Aggregates (46 – this equals 31% of the candidates) Matriculation Passes with B Aggregates (50 – this equals 33% of the candidates) Matriculation Passes with C Aggregates (40 – this equals 27% of the candidates) Matriculation Passes with D Aggregates (9 – this equals 6% of the candidates) Subject Distinctions: 24 candidates achieved four distinctions or more Congratulations to E2007 and the Rondebosch staff on these excellent results .

At present we have 1730 learners at our school. It remains a difficult task to try and control the influx of learners. Our full staff compliment is 105. This includes the ground staff. At present there are 48 people paid by the Department, which means that more than half of the staff at Gene Louw this year was paid by the Governing Body. 2. We were very fortunate to obtain the services of two staff members who were previously at Gene Louw, namely Ms Linka van Jaarsveld and Mrs Mariska Smith. The other appointments we made were Mrs Jana Jacobs in Grade 7 and Ms Nikki de Bruyn in Grade 3. Ons sê ook totsiens aan mev. H.
