JULY / AUGUST 2018 Next HRCC SOCIAL MEETING Monday 13Th The Official Journal of the Historic Racing Car Club (Queensland) Inc COMING EVENTS: HRCC Social Evening Carina 13 August Noosa Hillclimb Summer Tewantin 10-11 November JULY / AUGUST 2018 See hrcc.org.au for event information Next HRCC SOCIAL MEETING th Monday 13 AUGUST At CARINA LEAGUES CLUB, 1390 Creek Rd, CARINA www.carinaleaguesclub.com.au Next to Clem Jones Centre www.hrcc.org.au Meet for Casual Dining from 5:30 in Bistro, downstairs in Meeting Room from 7pm HRCC Social Mondays for 2018: 19 February, 21 May, 13 August, 19 November (AGM) HISTORIC QUEENSLAND 2018 More Historic Lap Records Established at 2018 Historic Queensland The records fell at HRCC’s 41st Historic Queensland, with record entries, our biggest spectator crowd since moving to Warwick, our coldest pre- dawn temp (-7C), and 10 huge grids enjoying 59 on track events! Cool mornings quickly gave way to brilliant sunshine and crisp clear air made for happy drivers and happy cars, with many personal best times achieved and 11 new Historic Lap Records, including the outright time, set on a brilliant track surface, now 18 months old and nicely matured. Entries received reached 285, unfortunately a few didn’t make it through to Saturday, but we had 271 on track over the weekend, including 29 Heritage Touring Cars (C&A) and 78 Group N Touring Cars. Group F (Formula Ford) also presented their biggest ever field with 17 cars. Fields between 30 and 40 cars made for exciting competition for competitors and spectators, with few incidents and a very well run meeting. The Paddock and Pits were jam packed with entrants and their various outfits, an increase noted in the number and style of motorhomes and large transporters now in use. On the Hill, a couple of hundred dazzling Classic Cars were on display, and with several thousand spectators, along with the myriad of colourful tents, the paddock had a carnival atmosphere, and with 270 beautifully prepared race cars moving about, Historic Racing enthusiasts had all they could want! In Racing, there were 11 new Historic Class Records set, and Chris Farrell took 3/10ths of a second off his own Outright Historic Lap Record, this time using his Group R 1979 RALT RT2, a 2-litre Formula 2 car, and Matt Campbell re-claimed the Group Q up to 1600cc record, also from Chris. I’m sure you’ll join us in congratulating Warwick District Sporting Car Club on their wonderful facility, their catering and other services, but also in their prompt action to restore power and allow the Meeting to get underway. And we are sure you’d like us to convey your thanks to the many Volunteer Officials who make Motorsport possible, safe and pleasurable for us all. Most officials, like you and us, have a long drive home, so we really hope they all had a great weekend. A special mention is warranted for Naith Legg, who stepped up from commentating Sprints to take on the role at the biggest Historic Queensland ever, and did a wonderful job… a race meeting is a dull affair without a good commentator! We thank those businesses who so generously sponsored both promotion of the event and giveaways to Competitors, Officials and Spectators, especially Bob Jane T-Marts, Toombul for their very generous tyre packages. And a big thank you to those Members and friends who pitched in and gave time and energy to preparing the venue, transporting resources, assisting entrants and spectators with parking, running the car show and parade, manning gates, driving shuttle bus, merchandise sales, helping with admin tasks, and the after-event clean-up. A special mention to Abi Duce who took on the role of data entry for Regularity, without whom it would have been pointless…. Last but not least, we thank the record crowd in attendance both days, and those who brought their special cars along to our ‘Show’n’Shine’ and Parade. We all seem to enjoy performing in front of a good crowd, and interacting with friendly folk in the pits. So thank you to everyone involved. We hope you enjoyed a safe journey home, and that we’ll see you again soon. Don’t forget to tell your friends…. PW Thank you to the Ladies. Monica Tupicoff would like to thank the Ladies especially Wendy and Marie for stepping in to run the Merchandising Stand and Ladies Morning Tea at the HISTORIC QUEENSLAND Race meeting in her last-minute medical absence.
