THE CHALLENGE Located in Chunxiao in the rapidly-expanding Beilun coastal development near Ningbo – a major port and industrial city with a population of more than seven million – in Zhejiang province, the track opened in time for WTCC Race of China in October 2017 following more than a year of construction work at a cost of 950-million CNY (122 million euros). Around 500 people were involved in turning what was a disused quarry into a state-of-the-art venue, which is built to FIA and FIM Grade 2 standards. It runs in an anti-clockwise direction, is between 12-18 metres in width and features 21 turns.

FROM BEHIND THE WHEEL WITH ESTEBAN GUERRIERI “It’s very, very technical and quite challenging in almost every part particularly in the first and last sectors where it’s really quite tricky. In 2017 it was new asphalt so no grip and that meant it was difficult to find the limits. There is a triple right-hander in sector one, which is going up after a left. It’s very difficult going uphill and then downhill and it’s difficult to get it right. Then in the last sector there is a downhill section where you have a blind corner. The front-right of the car stays in the air but the front-left of the splitter always brushes the surface. Because you have a lot of corners that are connected one after the other, if the car is washing away at the front it’s difficult to point it in the direction you want to go so you need a good front end.”

Weekend report: Thed Björk delivered a WTCR OSCARO masterclass with two poles and two wins as the China double-header began in spectacular fashion. The Swede was in sublime form with victories in Race 1 and 3, while team-mate and team boss Yvan Muller bagged the spoils in Race 2. After finishing fourth in Race 1, early contact in Race 2 left BRC Racing Team’s Gabriele Tarquini on the sidelines. However, he bounced back to finish second to Björk in Race 3 to ensure the championship lead remains his. Tarquini’s cause was aided when Muller retired from Race 3 with suspension damage and a puncture following contact. Esteban Guerrieri was a double podium visitor for ALL-INKL.COM Münnich after two strong displays. However, the Argentine was denied a third top-three when contact with Norbert Michelisz early in Race 3 forced him out. Mehdi Bennani signalled his return to form following his huge crash at WTCR Race of with second place in the reverse-grid Race 2. Denis Dupont helped to ensure there were four different customer racing brands in the top four in Race 2 before landing his maiden WTCR OSCARO podium with a fine drive from sixth to third in Race 3. Team-mate Frédéric Vervisch was third in Race 1. Elsewhere, double DTM champion just missed out on a top-10 twice as his Münnich team worked flat out to ensure Yann Ehrlacher could start Race 3 following damage sustained in a collision with China’s Ma Qing Hua on the final lap of Race 2. Ma, who like Scheider was making his WTCR debut, showed plenty of promise but the contact with Ehrlacher was too hard to make the start of Race 3.

Winning quote: “It was a fantastic race from the start, just flying way from the others and having a race by myself,” said Björk, following his Race 3 win. “I must be really happy with the team, who work so hard putting the car together all the time. It felt so good, in the window [of performance] all the time and I just had to drive. When we have such a long summer break and still so many points to fight for, the goal was to get back [in the title fight] as soon as possible, be on the edge and see where I can go. Some of the tracks that are coming are really nice.”

FIVE FACTS: Touring car titan: Ex-F1 driver with 38 starts to his name, Tarquini has been a touring car titan for more than two decades. His technical prowess and a no-nonsense driving style are key attributes. Euro-beater: After winning the British Touring Car Championship in 1994, Tarquini took the European series by storm, claiming six wins on his way to 2003 title joy. World success: He became WTCC champion with SEAT in 2009. Although there would be no more WTCC titles, the Italian was a race winner in six of the seven seasons that followed. Test to be best: Tarquini played a key role in developing the Hyundai i30 N TCR into a winner after signing for the make as its development driver in 2017. Did you know? Tarquini made history in April 2018 when he won the first WTCR / OSCARO race, triumphing from the DHL Pole Position in Marrakech.

FAST FIVE: What is your routine before taking to the track in your Hyundai i30 N TCR? “I always have a different approach depending on the time we have. But I don’t have any special way to approach the race.” Who would you choose as your two podium companions from any category, any era? “If I must choose two it’s and Ayrton Senna. I raced with them, especially with Senna. I spent some seasons, with different results, but at the same time we were on the same track and he was somebody I liked a lot. I started knowing Senna from karting. He was racing in at my time. And Michael because we shared a lot of time outside racing, especially football, because he loves football. We have this drivers’ national team in Italy, and I am one of the people who made it and we had a very big push when Michael joined us. I spent a lot of time with him and I would be very pleased to share the podium with Senna and Schumacher.” What’s the story behind your race number? “To be honest I don’t have what I call my number. I’ve raced with 2, with 3. When I start with Hyundai because of the i30 I choose 30. I won title with the 30 so 30 is probably my lucky number.” Let’s say it’s time to stop racing. How will you fill your time? “When I was 35, 38 I was doing for Italian TV the commentator job because I was thinking to stop racing in two or three years, but I have become too old to be back on TV! I would be very pleased to stay in racing, to run a team or a manufacturer for two or three seasons just to have the experience.” Ten great tracks appear on the WTCR / OSCARO schedule but if you could pick one more venue what would it be? “Mugello. For me it’s one of the best in the world and I’m very pleased every time I am driving there. For me Mugello and Suzuka, where we are racing in WTCR, are the best tracks in the world.”

FIVE FACTS: From online to on track: Michelisz’s online racing exploits earned him a test in a Zengő Motorsport Clio at the in 2005. Despite being a total rookie, he ended up 0.2s slower than established racer Gábor Wéber. One-make maestro: That testing performance earned him a season in the Suzuki Swift Cup in his homeland in 2006. With a career in economics on hold he promptly took the title before adding the Renault Clio equivalent the following season. New horizons: The SEAT León Eurocup was next and after securing the crown in 2009, he stepped up to the FIA World Touring Car Championship with Zengő Motorsport a guiding light. Factory chance: After winning the WTCC Trophy for independent racers twice, Michelisz landed a factory Honda ride for 2016, which culminated in an outright title challenge one year later. He eventually finished runner-up to Thed Björk with three wins and three fastest laps. Did you know? Michelisz, one of 15 drivers to win during the inaugural WTCR / OSCARO season, joined forces with Hungarian engineer Dávid Bári to establish his own TCR racing team, M1RA.

FAST FIVE: What pre-race rituals do you carry out before climbing aboard your Hyundai i30 N TCR? “I drink at least two espressos! Since I am involved with Italian teams, I realise I drink more and more coffee.” Is there a story behind your number five race number? “I don’t have any special connections to that number. It was just my first number in WTCC, and more and more fans started to produce their shirts with the number five. When I was asked the question in 2011, I just went for five and I always give the same answer.” Which two drivers would you like to join you on the ultimate podium, any era, any category? “I would choose Michael Schumacher because he’s the biggest legend in motorsport. I would have said Sébastien Loeb, but I was already with him on a podium in WTCC. So, I would choose because he’s a big legend in Le Mans.” WTCR / OSCARO already features 10 great venues but if you could add one more, what would it be? “Bathurst. I always wanted to drive on the Nürburgring Nordschleife and in Macau and the other one on the same level was Bathurst. It’s one of the most amazing tracks in the world and if we could have that on the calendar next to Macau, next to Nürburgring it would be the most amazing calendar out of any motorsport category.” What does the future hold when you call time on your racing career? “I enjoy being involved in motorsport so much that probably if I didn’t drive, I would look to something outside driving, maybe driver coaching, managing drivers or expanding with M1RA as a team boss. It would be one of these three things.”

FIVE FACTS: Early starter: It was a six-year-old Farfus who tried 50cc -motos for size on a dirt track in his native to signal the start of his motorsport adventure. Karting star: After impressing on two wheels, Farfus switched to karting for 1992, winning the Paranaense title in his first season. Following several years of success across , Farfus relocated to Italy for 1999 where he joined the official CRG team and continued to add to his tally of wins and titles. Single-minded: The triumphs didn’t stop coming in 2000 when, as a 16-year-old, he contested the European and Italian championships. He became European champion in 2001 and bagged the European Formula 3000 crown two years later. Touring cars by storm: Having excelled in single-seaters, Farfus got his touring car break with Alfa Romeo in 2004, finishing sixth in the ETCC and fourth in the revived WTCC the following season. He was third in 2006 and fourth in 2007, his first season as a factory BMW driver. Did you know? Farfus has been part of the works BMW line-up since 2007 with victory in the 2010 Nürburgring 24 Hours and runner-up spot in the 2013 DTM among a long list of achievements.

FAST FIVE: Why did you choose to run the #8 on your Hyundai i30 N TCR? “I started racing in motorbikes with number eight. When I moved to go-karts, I couldn’t have number eight because there was another kid with number eight, so I moved to 18. Then I drove for many years with 18 but when I had the chance to have the number eight back, I moved to 18. It’s always been my number and then I came to the WTCR and they said I could choose my number, so I said either eight or 18 and eight was available, so I took it.” Who would join you on your ultimate fantasy podium, any category, any era? “It would be an honour for me to share a podium with Senna, that goes without saying. Then Hamilton. Two completely different generations. It’s a different era, a different time but Hamilton is great like Verstappen. Senna was great in a different time when it was a bit more freestyle. But both times and drivers are great, amazing.” When you eventually call time on your racing career what will you do to keep busy? “I have many things I didn’t do because I’ve not had the time yet. Maybe I could take over the job of running the family restaurants in Brazil but, honestly, I have not thought about it.” If you could add one more track to the WTCR / OSCARO calendar what would it be? “Curitiba in Brazil. The World Touring Car Championship races there were pretty nice and it would be great to go back there.” Pre-race, what do you do before getting in the car? “I pray and I try to gather my own thoughts. That’s pretty much it.”

FIVE FACTS: Young starter: ‘Attika’ Tassi was just 12 when he raced a car for the first time, contesting the Suzuki Swift Cup Hungary in 2012. Good company: In 2014, Tassi went up against WTCR / OSCARO podium finisher Dániel Nagy in the Suzuki Swift Cup Hungary. He finished third in the standings, while Nagy had started the season as the defending champion. Second best: Despite his young age, Tassi battled seasoned professional Jean-Karl Vernay for the TCR International Series title in 2017, eventually finishing an impressive second in the final standings. He landed a podium when TCR International supported the Russian Formula One Grand Prix at Sochi in 2016. One HELL of a guy: Tassi’s main sponsor is HELL Energy drink, which supported his WTCR / OSCARO debut in 2018 when he competed as a wildcard at WTCR Race of Hungary. Did you know? Tassi won the 2018 Swiss TCR title, which was based on the results of several events combined, including TCR Europe and TCR Italy.

FAST FIVE: What made you choose number nine? “My first sport was ice hockey, I started when I was the age of five and from the beginning, I was sticking to number nine. That was my lucky number and everywhere I go I stick to number nine.” Who would join you on your ultimate podium? “ because he’s my idol and it would obviously be a huge pleasure to have Tiago Monteiro. We built a very good relationship from the beginning of the season and we have a very good relationship when it’s not a race weekend. And I want to see him on the podium!” If you could add an 11th track to the WTCR schedule what would you pick? “The A1 Ring in . When I started racing at the age of 12 that was my first successful race. I really like the elevation of the track and the characteristic. And we could see in Formula One it was a very competitive track and very exciting. And because we do some very light touching, we could have an even better race.” Do you have a pre-race routine you always follow? “I always do 15-20 minutes of warm-up so when I get in the car, I’m sweating quite a lot. I’m also feeling a little bit tired, but we measured that I am this type of person who needs to warm up much more to feel tired otherwise I don’t wake up in the car quickly enough. So, every time I warm-up like this before each session.” What will you do when you stop racing? “I want racing to be my job for many years, like Gabriele Tarquini.”

FIVE FACTS: Third time of asking: After two seasons in the Suzuki Swift Cup, Langeveld claimed the title at his third attempt in 2010 courtesy of six wins. One-make wonder: Langeveld’s success racing Suzuki Swifts was just the start of his one-make adventures. Following his stint racing the Japanese machines, he won races and titles in Renault Clios and SEAT Leóns. Strong step-up: A move to ADAC TCR Germany in 2017 represented Langeveld’s next step and he didn’t disappoint. After claiming fifth in his first season with two wins, Langeveld went two better in 2018, again winning twice but also leading the title race for a time. FAST FIVE: You’ve won but who would join you on your ultimate podium? “Nicky Catsburg and Tom Coronel. Nicky is becoming a good friend and he helps me a lot in WTCR. He gave me a warm welcome which really helped me and gives me a lot of information on how things work. Tom does as well and he’s also a sponsor mate, we have the same sponsor so how cool would it be to both be on the podium with our cheese helmets!” There are 10 great venues on the WTCR / OSCARO schedule, but what track would get your vote if the calendar increased to 11 events? “All the tracks I wanted to drive are already in, but I would like to have Spa-Francorchamps in the calendar. It’s a track that’s close to my home, it’s one of the most famous tracks in the world. It’s a long track which I like, it would suit the calendar perfectly.” Do you have a pre-race ritual? “I see a lot of drivers doing some exercises, the blood circulation things. I don’t do anything in particular, I am just getting changed, that’s what I do.” Is there a story behind the number 10 on your Audi RS 3 LMS? “When I did the Swift Cup in 2010 I became champion with the number 10. When I became champion in the Clio Cup it was also number 10, also in the SEAT León Eurocup. It’s also a football- related number. It’s usually the number of a good midfielder, I like football a lot and everyone wants number 10 in football. But Feyenoord, my team, doesn’t have a number 10 at the moment!” What does the future hold when you stop racing? “If I end my career it sounds strange, but I would like to learn more about being a race director. I have so much experience as a driver that I could use this very well as being a race director. It would be a new challenge and I would like to give it a try.”

FIVE FACTS: Brothers in arms: Born in the village of Vretstorp in Örebro County, Thed is the oldest of three brothers. Although his younger siblings have raced, only Thed has done so at a high level. History-maker: Björk became ’s first motor racing world champion, winning the FIA World Touring Car Championship in 2017. Variety is the spice of life: His varied career has included stints in Swedish F3, the Barber Dodge Pro Series in the USA, the FIA Sportscar Championship, the DTM and the Camaro Cup in his homeland. He also contested the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2002, finishing P15 in a factory-entered Courage C60. In 2018, Björk claimed four wins in WTCR / OSCARO on his way to seventh in the final standings. Early starter: Thed’s motorsport adventure began aged three when his father bought him a motorbike. He got two more wheels aged 11 when a go-kart was purchased. But watching a young Michael Schumacher coming up against Ayrton Senna fired Björk’s interest in circuit racing. “When I was 14 I decided I would be a racing driver and here I am”. Did you know? Björk is married with one daughter and one son, Thor, who was born on the night after FIA WTCC Race of Hungary in April 2016 (Thed cycled from the paddock to a waiting airport transfer for a flight back to Sweden in time for the birth).

FAST FIVE: Which two drivers, from any category, any era, would join you on a fantasy podium? “I would win, Senna would be second and then Ronnie Peterson would be third. I have a documentary on him. He’s really big in Sweden, we have all the stories about his balance as a car driver. Senna is one I looked up to and liked when I was 13 or 14. But there are so many good drivers so it’s really hard not to choose more.” What’s the story behind number 11 on your Lynk & Co 03 TCR? “Actually, I would prefer number 1. But if you can’t have number one because it’s always linked to the champion of the series then you have to change it. When I started with 11 it felt like a good number for me and I can keep it. It feels like a number I’m getting used to so it’s not a story from behind but one going forward.” If you could add another venue to the already great tracks on the WTCR / OSCARO schedule what would it be? “I really lack the tracks we have in WTCR with all the challenges and everywhere we are going but I would probably add a track in America because I like America [having raced there in the past]. I would choose Laguna Seca. A fantastic track, nice place, and I like California.” Do you have a pre-race ritual? “No I don’t but I have my mental training I do before each event, before I travel, and before each race when I am sitting in the car with one minute to go I have my mental trigger points on my left hand so I push my hand for that, that’s my mental preparation.” What does the future hold for you when you stop driving? “I really like the racing atmosphere and the experience I am building. It’s so unique to do this. If you have motorsport in your blood then you probably want to stay around so I will probably stay around.”

FIVE FACTS: Home pride: With a background in karting and Britain’s junior formulas, Huff earned a works British Touring Car Championship ride for 2004 after winning SEAT’s one-make series in the UK. He won twice and earned a factory ride at world level the following season. World star: It wasn't long before Huff was winning in the WTCC, taking his first triumph in 2006 and the title six years later. To Russia with LADA: After a season with the privateer ALL-INKL.COM Münnich squad, Huff signed for the works LADA squad for 2014, handing the firm its breakthrough podium and win before signing off with a double podium in 2015. Honda-bound: A stint with the Honda factory team in 2016 resulted in one win in before he returned to René Münnich’s outfit for 2017. Although he had the all-conquering Citroën C-Elysée at his disposal, there would be no title double. However, he did end the WTCC era with the most starts of all, 291, before signing for the Volkswagen-powered Sébastien Loeb Racing outfit for the first WTCR / OSCARO season in 2018 and claiming two wins. Did you know? With nine victories, Huff is the most successful driver in history.

FAST FIVE: You’re the winner but who would join you on your ultimate podium? “No one because I’d be first, second and third! It would obviously be me on top and Yvan Muller and could squabble between second and third. Growing up, watching these guys on TV, they were the guys I aspired to be. To not only be able to race against them, but to be their team-mates and occasionally win against them, they were some great memories.” The WTCR visits 10 great tracks but if you could add one more, what would it be? “For me personally there are probably two. One would be Bathurst for sure. Having done the 12 Hours two times, World there would be exceptional. But what we learned at the Nürburgring is that long straights are everything so Le Mans would bring something pretty spectacular to WTCR. So, let’s get one of those two on the calendar!” What’s the story behind your race number 12? “When I first started karting, I don’t know how it came about, but we started with number 12 and it’s a number that followed me all the way through my career other than when we were at Chevrolet because we either ran number 1, 2 and number 8 because that was Louis Chevrolet’s number, so would always run number 8 and me and Yvan were swapping number 1 and 2 throughout the years. In the early years we were 6, 7 and 8 because of the Louis Chevrolet thing, then of course when the number choice came about, I went back to number 12. I think I was quite lucky because Yvan’s number was also 12 and I think if you ask him, he’ll tell you his number is 12 as well! But the year we could choose he won the title in the private Chevrolet so wanted number 1, I took number 12 and he’s never been able to have it back!” Do you have any pre-race rituals? “I’m not superstitious at all. What will be will be, we do what we do and a lot of what we do is relying on the others around us. No matter what procedure you do, left glove, right glove, left boot, right boot, suit inside out, upside down, handstands, push-ups running around skipping, it’s not going to change what the guy next to you decides to do. For me I’m a purist. I don’t need to zoom out, I put my helmet on, I’m in my comfort zone and off we go.” When it’s time to stop racing what will you do? “I love motorsport. I’ve started my own team and I’m doing a lot in China. I’ve been part of this family from day one when it was WTCC. I’m the longest serving member with more starts than anyone. For me I never want to leave. I’d like to come back, maybe as driver steward and slap some wrists of people who have annoyed me in the past! Obviously, I’m a great lover of historics, which is where I started. I’ll be the 80-year-old boy still in the paddock and everybody will be saying, ‘God, is he still around?’, but I love motorsport, I love it with a passion and I never want to leave.”

FIVE FACTS: Volkswagen’s all-round superstar: As well as holding the record for the most wins (11) in an FIA World Championship campaign, Kristoffersson has triumphed in and circuit racing. Indeed, his 2018 season included clinching the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship for a second time alongside becoming a two-time World RX title winner. He was Volkswagen- powered in both categories. And a Superstar too: Kristoffersson won the Superstars International Series in 2012 with four wins. The category gave him a chance to learn the Hungaroring, which along with the Nürburgring Nordschleife, is one of only two WTCR / OSCARO venues Kristoffersson had experience of prior to joining up with Sébastien Loeb Racing for the 2019 season. From rival to part of the team: Kristoffersson will go from Sébastien Loeb’s World Rallycross rival to one of his drivers in WTCR / OSCARO season two. Loeb jointly owns Sébastien Loeb Racing with his business partner Dominique Heintz and the only World RX event Kristoffersson didn’t win in 2018 was in Mettet, , when Loeb took the victory. FAST FIVE: You’re the winner but who would join you on the ultimate podium? “I would choose Ayrton Senna and Colin McRae. Senna for sure is Senna, no words needed. Colin McRae was so spectacular, something special to look at.” If you could add an 11th venue to the existing WTCR / OSCARO schedule, what would you choose? “Bathurst or Höljes, the Swedish rallycross track. Okay the WTCR cars might not like Höljes so if I can’t choose this one then I would say Bathurst. I was racing there in 2013 in the 12-hour race and it’s just a super-cool track, a mix of Vila Real and the Nürburgring Nordschleife.” What’s the story behind the number 14 on your Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR? “My father [Tommy Kristoffersson] had 14 when he was racing so I think it’s more his number than my number.” Is there a Johan Kristoffersson pre-race ritual? “I do quite a lot of preparations, looking back on videos from the years before, things like this. At the track I’m just trying to have a good time with my team-mates and with the crew around my car, talk to my engineer and just smile, that’s important to me.” What’s the plan for the future when you stop racing? “To be honest I’m too young to look so far forward but to spend more time with my family.”

FIVE FACTS: Versatility is the spice of life: Starting out in the French Porsche Cup in 1997, Monteiro starred in the country’s Formula 3 championship before climbing up the ranks, gaining experience – and plaudits – in Formula 3000, Champ Car and World Series by . He then earned national hero status when he became the first Portuguese to finish on a Formula One podium after placing third for Jordan in the 2005 US Grand Prix. Destination touring cars: Monteiro was a WTCC frontrunner from the moment he joined the championship with SEAT in 2007. He earned four wins with the Spanish make and seven for Honda. Title dreams in tatters: Having excelled during the first half of the 2017 WTCC season, Monteiro was on course for title with the Asian leg of the season remaining only to suffer serious head and neck injuries in a testing crash at Circuit de -Catalunya in September of that year. It brought an abrupt end to his campaign. Heroic recovery: Monteiro subsequently fought a courageous, albeit arduous battle to regain fitness and be allowed to compete again with his return in Free Practice 1 at WTCR JVCKENWOOD Race of Japan last October coming 415 days after the accident. He scored an impressive weekend- best P11 on this comeback. Did you know? Monteiro was set for a life more ordinary had he not discovered a knack for driving, as he explains: “My family is in the hotel business and I went to study hotel management in . I loved it and that was the direction I was going to go in. But after I finished my studies I had the opportunity to drive a race car, which I thought maybe I could do as a hobby. But then I got discovered, got some opportunities and made the decision that hotel management could wait and I would go back to it if I wasn’t successful in motorsport.”

FAST FIVE: Imagine if an extra venue was added to the WTCR / OSCARO schedule and the decision was down to you, what track would you go for? “I would love to do Bathurst because I’ve never driven there, but Watkins Glen is an amazing track and big fun so I’m going for Watkins Glen.”

Which two drivers would join you on your ultimate fantasy podium, any category, any era? “I’m not going to mention any WTCR names because I’ve shared many podiums with drivers like Gabriele Tarquini, Yvan Muller, many others and I have so many friends in WTCR. So, I’ll go for Benoît Tréluyer and James Hunt. Benoît was my first team-mate in single-seaters and he’s a very good friend, I really appreciate him as a person and he’s a brilliant driver. It’s not like I’m crazy about James Hunt but you had to like his attitude and his approach to motorsport. It’s different to a lot of people and if you want to have a fun podium you either have Tom Coronel or James Hunt.”

Is there a pre-race routine you always follow? “I try not to get too much into superstitious stuff, I’m not very superstitious and I don’t want to get stuck with this kind of ritual and one day forget about it and stress about it and not focus on what is important. But I kind of have a routine. I try to focus a little bit on my own, warm up a bit, listen to some music and try to have some shut-eye for 10 or 15 minutes.”

Why do you run with number 18 on your KCMG Honda Civic Type R TCR? “The number 18 has been quite an important number for me, even when I was a kid before I was dreaming about being a race car driver. And because I was number 18 when I was in Formula One, I asked to keep it when I moved to WTCC. I’ve been using my trademark for many years around the number 18 and I was very happy that Events and François Ribeiro went in that direction and gave numbers more importance, more significance.”

And when you finally stop driving how will you keep busy? “I will be involved in racing somehow. I am managing 14 drivers at the moment and I have a young guns development and management company, which is growing every year. This has been my life for 22 or 23 years and you don’t just want to throw that away by no longer working in racing.”

FIVE FACTS: Like father like son: Panis followed father Olivier – winner of the 1996 Grand Prix – into motor racing. To the F4: The younger Panis began his career in French F4 in 2011 before progressing to the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 series the following year. Rising up: After a stint with the Caterham Racing Academy in 2013 Panis joined the ART Junior Team and scored his first Formula Renault wins in 2014. He won twice in Formula V8 3.5 in 2016 and finished fifth in the points. Electric dreams: Having twice finished runner-up in the Électrique Class of the Andros Trophy ice- racing series, it was a case of third time lucky for the French youngster when he claimed the category title at the end of the 2017/18 season. Did you know? After a stint in the World Touring Car Championship, Panis made a strong impact on his switch to the TCR category, winning on his third start in the TCR International Series in Thailand in 2017.

FAST FIVE: Who would join you on your podium if you could choose? “I have a really good friend in motorsport, Mathieu Vaxiviere, who is racing in GT at the moment. Then I would have Simon Gachet, another friend of mine who lives quite close to me.” If you could add venue number 11 to the WTCR / OSCARO schedule what would it be? “Pau would be very nice. I drove there in Formula Renault and I enjoy a lot. For WTCR it could be a good track.” What does your pre-race routine consist of? “I’m with my trainer and my physio Damien. We always do a bit of a warm-up to be ready. It’s always important to warm-up the body to be focused on the race or the qualifying. I do this before I jump into the car.” Is there a story behind your number 21? “No special story actually. I had this number for my first season in WTCR last season, so I keep it.” Have you got any plans in place for the future when you stop racing? “Honestly, I don’t think about that yet. I like really like very much this world, I want to stay in it for as long as I can so I try to do something in this world. My father created his own team, so this could be a good example.”

FIVE FACTS: Three was the magic number: Formula 3 was an early happy hunting ground for Vervisch, the Belgian enjoying success in the French, German, Asian and – for a time – Italian championships. Virgin Atlantic: Vervisch made the switch to the USA in 2009 for his first foray racing Stateside. He ended up fourth in the final table that year. Happy talking: Languages are no barrier to Vervisch, who speaks Dutch, English, French and German and also has a command of Italian. Giving it a try: He’s also well versed at trying out different racing disciplines, having competed in Formula Renault 2.0, Formula Renault 3.5, , FIA GT, Blancpain Endurance, European Le Mans and TCR International, where he formed part of the Comtoyou Racing line-up. FAST FIVE: Do you have any special pre-race preparations? “I did when I was a bit younger, but I didn’t want to think that if I didn’t do it and something happened… so I prefer to perform or be good in any circumstance. When Angélique [Detavernier] is at a race we do a warm-up that activates me so if I can do that, I do that.” If you could choose two drivers from any category, any era to complete the ultimate podium who would you choose? “ because of the things he did, I always looked up to him. It would also have been cool to have been on a podium with Michael Schumacher.” What’s the story behind the race number on your Audi RS 3 LMS? “Number 22 was my number last year, I had a good year and it was the only one available that I had in mind so I kept it.” Imagine if venue number 11 was added to the WTCR / OSCARO schedule and you could decide what it would be. What would you go for? “Bathurst. It’s like a mini Nüburgring, high speed and also a kind of . It’s not forgiving and that’s nice. Also, the racing would be cool because you have some long straights so there is some opportunity to overtake.” How do you plan to keep busy when you eventually stop racing? “I’m not thinking about that time so much. I hope I can still drive for a very long time. Gabriele Tarquini is a good example of even if you are a little bit older you can still be very competitive. If I can maintain it until then… it’s 20 years from now and a whole lifetime. I would like to always be involved in motorsport, it makes me happy, it’s natural so I will always be kind of involved, I hope.”

FIVE FACTS: Double champion: Girolami is a back-to-back winner of the hugely competitive and highly prestigious Súper TC2000 touring car championship in , taking the crown in 2014 and again in 2015 having finished runner-up to José María López in 2013. Honda homecoming: ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport’s decision to include Girolami in its 2019 WTCR / OSCARO line-up represents a kind of homecoming for the Argentine. He was Honda- powered for myriad touring car championships between 2010 and 2011, while his FIA World Touring Car Championship debut at the Slovakia Ring in 2015 was in a NIKA International-run Honda Civic WTCC. Strong debut: Girolami impressed from the outset with a point-scoring finish in his first WTCC race. He would score again on his second of two appearances in 2015 when he placed eighth in Race 2 in Vila Real. Victorious for Volvo: After a highly competitive showing on a one-off outing for the Volvo Polestar WTCC team in 2016, Girolami was recruited for its 2017 WTCC attack. FAST FIVE: Who would join you on the ultimate fantasy podium? “I would like to choose Senna in second and Schumacher in third. They are my heroes. I didn’t see too much of Senna because I was too young but I saw Schumacher all the way in Formula One.” Just imagine an 11thvenue was added to the WTCR / OSCARO and you could make the choice, what track would you go for? “I love to race again in Argentina, it’s such as special atmosphere like Tiago [Monteiro] feels in Vila Real. There is a lot of passion there.” What is your pre-race routine? “The most important thing is to rest a little bit after the qualifying session because it’s really tough the racing and you need to focus a bit. I warm up with some stretches.” Is there a particular story behind your race number, 29? “I was two-time champion in Argentina in 2014 and 2015 and this means two ones. Eleven was already signed to Thed [Björk] so I decided to choose one number that gave me the possibility to score 11 because two plus nine is 11. The other fact I was 29 at the start of the season and my wife’s birthday is on the 29th of the month so it’s a really special day and a special number.” What does the future hold when you stop racing? “My first ambition is to have kids, to have a family with a lot of kids and share my life with my family. As a sportsman I would like to continue working in motorsport, maybe as a team manager or advising drivers. I do this job with a lot of love and when you do a job with love it’s the best job you can have.”

FIVE FACTS: Who is he: A winner in Auto GP, Formula 3 and GP3, Ceccon made his debut in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO in Slovakia mid-2018 having been called up to replace at Team Mulsanne. He scored points on his first appearance in the series before taking a breakthrough victory at WTCR JVCKENWOOD Race of Japan later in the year. Permanent drive: Although Ceccon’s WTCR / OSCARO adventure was intended as a one-off, his impressive initial showing led to him being signed up for the remainder of the 2018 season and would ultimately lead to him being recruited on a permanent basis for 2019. FAST FIVE: What does your pre-race routine consist of? “I like to do the simulator the week of the race. I like to do one hour and a half of bike riding before leaving my house. Before the race I just listen to my music but also talk with people around me but not about racing, I just want to heave a clear mind. There is not one particular music I like. I change a lot and it depends on my mood from really disco music to really depressed music.” Who would you pick to join you on the ultimate podium? “ would be one, he’s one of my best friends. I know him very well and I learned a lot from him. I always talk a lot about racing with him. I am nine years younger but. we have never competed against each other. If I had to choose somebody from the past then I have in mind Nikki Lauda, a legend.” If you could add venue 11 to the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO calendar what would you choose? “I would like to have a Race of Italy in . I know Gabriele [Tarquini] would like Mugello but let me choose please because I am the youngest!” When you stop racing in the future what will you do to keep busy? “I am already working when I am at home. We do carpentry, steel, sandblasting and painting. I have a double life, a racing driver at the weekend and this when I am at home. I already choose my after-racing career. I am still learning a lot but I am trying to do as much as I can about this. Honestly your career can last until you are 57 like Gabriele or until you are 19. There are plenty of drivers I was racing with who have already stopped. But I hope to stay racing for as long as possible.” Can you explain your choice of race number 31? “It has been a tough decision to choose my number in WTCR. I choose 31 because the ‘3’ is the ‘E’ in my number and the ‘1’ is the ‘I’. I really like it a lot and that’s basically the choice I made.”

FIVE FACTS: Testing times: Leuchter might only have experience of two tracks on the 2019 WTCR / OSCARO schedule prior to the start of the new campaign, but he does have ample knowledge of the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR that he’ll race having played a key role in its test and development phase. Ambassador man: The German’s links to the Volkswagen family don’t end there. As well as being a brand ambassador for the firm, Leuchter is an instructor for the Volkswagen Driving Experience. Long distance, no problem: Having raced in karting and single-seaters in the past, Leuchter has formed a strong reputation in long-distance events, particularly the Nürburgring Nordschleife- based VLN Endurance Championship. FAST FIVE: You carry the number 33 on your Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR. Why? “There’s not a specific story actually. Last year my friend René Rast chose this number when he did his WTCR race and has this number in DTM. But for sure it was not the reason. I just like the number three, so I chose double three.” Who would join you on a fantasy podium? “Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna. For the motorsport in Germany, Michael Schumacher did a lot, he changed a lot and made motorsport very famous. This is why I did motorsport because he was an idol for me. Ayrton Senna is the best driver in the world still for me.” Imagine you could add another track to the WTCR calendar. What would you choose? “The in Germany, a fast street circuit, it would be great to race on this track, but I skip this and come to Bathurst instead. It would be awesome to race around Mount Panorama. I never raced there but Australia is a great country and the track is quite similar to the Nordschleife and that’s why I would appreciate to race there one day.” Do you have a pre-race routine you follow? “It depends also on the mood I am in. I listen to some hip-hop music, but I take my time, take out the trouble and just calm down a bit and just be focused on the race.” What does the future hold when you stop racing? “For sure I would like to stay in contact with motorsport. I founded my own racing team back in 2018 with my friend Max Kruse. Then I would be a team boss and try to bring young talents up.”

FIVE FACTS: Following Muller’s lead: Haglöf follows Yvan Muller’s lead from 2018 as a driver and team boss, having co-founded PWR Racing with Peter ‘Poker’ Wallenberg in 2012. Huge achievement: Haglöf, PWR Racing’s CEO, co-founder and driver, said: “I'm really looking forward to be competing on an international level again. I’m driving against the very best in this category of racing. To be doing it with the team that me and Poker have built together is a huge achievement.” Strong season: He scored two wins and six podiums in the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship in 2018. FAST FIVE: Who would join you on the ultimate fantasy podium? “ and Ayrton Senna. Rossi for his career and what he has done it would be cool to join him on the podium, For Senna for being the racing driver that he was.” If you could add one more venue to the WTCR / OSCARO schedule what would it be? “Drivecenter Arena in Skellefteå. We had a race there in TCR Scandinavia with a lot of people coming. It’s a really challenging track and you can have a midnight sun race there, which would be pretty cool.” Is there a pre-race routine that you follow? “I am not really a superstitious guy. If I realise that I am doing something special I change so it’s not special. Some things you can do out of habit, but I don’t want to be in a situation when I have to do something in a certain way because then I am not in control if I cannot do it in the same way.” Why do you carry number 37 on your PWR Racing CUPRA TCR? “I had it in karting and when I got to the Mini Challenge, which was the first category when I could choose my race number, I used the 37. But I didn’t realise at this point that it was quite an historic number for Mini because it was the number they were using when they won the Monte Carlo Rally and people in the Mini community were really excited with me running 37. When they entered the , they had 37 on one car bur for me it’s the number from karting. I was successful with it and I choose it whenever I can.” What does the future hold away from race driving? “When I started to be a professional race driver I had the idea to start a team and that’s what I have done. I am doing the two things in parallel so I have a good exit strategy!”

FIVE FACTS: Big in Japan: Coronel enjoyed a lengthy stint in Japan early in his career, winning the country’s Formula 3 and Formula Nippon titles and also achieving success in Super GT. Eager for endurance: As well as contesting the Le Mans 24 Hours 10 times, Coronel took part on his sixth in January 2019, reaching the finish alongside twin brother Tim. Part of the family: Coronel has raced touring cars since 2001 and took part in the WTCC from 2005-2017, twice winning the WTCC Trophy for independent racers. Good teacher: Before his racing – and business – career took hold, Coronel worked as an instructor at Zandvoort, which helped him to gain an intimate knowledge of the seaside track and played a part in him winning in every category he raced at the famous venue. FAST FIVE: There are already 10 great venues on the WTCR / OSCARO schedule but if you got the chance to add one more, what would it be? “Sonoma! The track was very challenging when we raced there in the WTCC, but it was good overtaking and very technical. And the scenery around is mega!” Who would join you on a fantasy podium if you could pick two drivers from any era, any category? “I have been since 2001 in this type of series so it’s a difficult one because I know so many guys. But I would go for Jörg Müller and . They were my racing mates when we were driving in the BMW in ETCC and WTCC times, it was great racing.” Do you follow a special pre-race routine? “I send Pauline, my daughter and my son a kiss by WhatsApp. And I say: ‘See you after the finish’.” Why do you run with the number 50 on your CUPRA TCR? “We had to choose a number together with the design, character and personality and I went for the Showman idea because I was announced by Eurosport as the Showman in the video when the WTCC went to WTCR. At the same time DHL now exists for 50 years so it was a nice thing to do for them and good for my marketing style!” Have you considered what you’ll do when you stop racing? “Then I’m dead! I will never stop! That’s it, there will be nothing more to live for!”

FIVE FACTS: The impossible dream: Shedden started out racing in his native Scotland with limited funds but big ambition. Talent and sheer determination can help racing drivers go a long way in the sport. From one-make master to touring car champion: A title winner in the one-make Ford Fiesta series in the UK in 2000, Shedden finished runner-up to Rob Huff in the SEAT CUPRA Championship in 2003. While Huff would move into the British Touring Car Championship the following season before stepping up to the world stage in 2005, Shedden would have to wait a little longer, getting his BTCC chance in 2006. Battling back: Although Shedden would win races in 2006 and 2007, he endured a few tough seasons before signing for the Honda-backed outfit for 2010, winning his first of three BTCC titles in 2012. The world at his feet: Shedden’s WTCR / OSCARO adventure hit a high note when he won Race 3 at WTCR Race of China-Wuhan last October. Did you know? Shedden, who works at the Racing Circuit in his native Scotland when he’s not driving, lived in Hanover, Germany for three years in his youth and has a degree in Business Studies from the University of Edinburgh.

FAST FIVE: What’s the story behind number the number 52 on your Audi RS 3 LMS? “It was just the number I started with in karting, the number I got allocated. I kept it from racing in Fiestas and all the way through. The bike racers are good at keeping their same number and I’ve had 52 ever since I started. In one of the years when I won the BTCC I used number one, but it wasn’t very lucky, so I went straight back to 52. But maybe I need to change because my luck isn’t very good right now.” When you stop racing what will you do to fill your time? “I’ll still be busy with Knockhill Racing, my wife Jillian’s family business. I guess I already have two full-time jobs between my racing and Knockhill. Hopefully it’s a long time away but I would be interested to bring on the next generation of drivers by working for a manufacturer and using the experience I have from all these years of racing touring cars.” If you could add venue 11 to the WTCR / OSCARO schedule what track would get your vote? “Bathurst because it’s the best circuit going. It would be great to go to but Knockhill is obviously the best touring car circuit in the world!” Who would join you on the ultimate podium? “I would have and John Cleland and then we could just have three renditions of Flower of Scotland! Jimmy obviously with the back in the mid-60s was very iconic and for me growing up Cleland was the Scottish hero in touring cars and there was never a dull moment with John about.” Do you have any pre-race superstitions? “Everyone says they are not superstitious, but then everybody ends up being superstitious! Every year you get your race suits, fire proof underwear and gloves and you always end up having your favourite suit to wear on race day or your favourite boots or something. But I’m not that bad having to put one boot on before the other!”

FIVE FACTS: History-maker: Ma became the first Chinese driver to win an FIA world championship motor race when he won WTCC Race of Russia in 2014, his debut in the series. Then what? He played an important role in Citroën’s WTCC success, winning again on the streets of Vila Real in 2015. But when Citroën restructured its line-up for 2016, Ma switched his focus to other disciplines. However, the Shanghai racer returned in a Sébastien Loeb Racing C-Elysée WTCC at Macau in 2017 and set the fastest lap in the Main Race. Diversity rules: As well as success in touring car racing, Ma has experience in FIA , , Formula 3000, British Formula 3, TCR Asia and China and FIA World Rallycross. And Formula One too: Ma was the first Chinese driver to take part in a Formula One weekend when joined HRT for Free Practice 1 at the Italian Grand Prix in 2012 in place of . Did you know: Ma’s seventh place in Race 3 at WTCR Race of China-Wuhan made him the first Chinese driver to score WTCR OSCARO points.

FAST FIVE: If you could choose any two drivers to join you on a fantasy podium, from any category, any era, who would they be? “I would choose Lewis Hamilton and Marc Marquez. I am a big fan of bike racing, it’s amazing and similar to WTCR because every racer is quite close and very competitive and side by side all the time. The rider who can win those races is really amazing.” Pre-race, what do you do before climbing aboard your Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR by Romeo Ferraris? “When I raced with Citroën in the WTCC I had a case of Chinese tea with me and I used to drink this before I got in the car. Now I’m with an Italian team I change tea to coffee, espresso of course, and I listen to music. But the music is quiet and peaceful, not to make me too excited because I try to balance the emotion.” Ningbo is one of 10 tracks on the WTCR / OSCARO calendar. If you could add another for 2020 what would it be? “Laguna Seca! Personally, I would love to have one race in the States and if you want me to choose one circuit then Laguna Seca represents that special point.” All WTCR / OSCARO drivers get to choose their race numbers. What made you go for 55? “I use number 55 because when I start to race in Formula 3 in Europe in 2008, I was number 55. In that year I got onto the podium three times, it was a very good year for me and very important in my career towards Formula One. I would like to repeat the success from before and the number ‘5’ is very lucky in Chinese culture so I choose 55.” When you eventually stop racing, how will you keep busy? “First of all, I don’t know when I’m going to stop! I think I have quite a long time to go, I love being in this sport for the passion and I will try to continue my career for as long as possible. I would also like to do something in this industry in China for sure, to help the whole motorsport industry in China. I would like to help more drivers or even those kids who never drove before to start, to give them some instruction and good suggestions how to make a career.”

FIVE FACTS: Racing is in the blood… Ehrlacher’s uncle is none other than four-time World Touring Car champion Yvan Muller. His mother, Cathy, was a respected single-seater racer in her own right competing in Formula 3 and Formula 3000. Unconventional start: Skipping karts completely, Ehrlacher began racing in the Cup in Germany before contesting the Mitjet 2L series with Yvan Muller Racing, winning the French championship in 2014. Success continues: Title success in French Supertourisme followed before Ehrlacher joined the LMP3 ranks in the European Le Mans Series in 2016, driving a Ligier JS P3 for his uncle’s team and winning his class at Estoril. Quick learner: Ehrlacher scored WTCC points on his second weekend in the championship in 2017 and was a winner eight races later, claiming a standout first place for RC Motorsport in Argentina. The following season he scored two wins in WTCR / OSCARO and led the title standings after a highly impressive performance at WTCR Race of Netherlands. Did you know? His father Yves is a former professional footballer who played for Strasbourg, Lens, Bastia and Mulhouse.

FAST FIVE: If you could pick two drivers to join you on the ultimate podium, no matter the category or era, who would you choose? “I would pick Yvan [Muller, my uncle], of course then I would take Kimi Räikkönen. I like the way he is only concerned by the sport, by the main target, which is going quick and not thinking about anything else. That’s the personality I like.” Your Lynk & Co 03 TCR carries the number 68. Why? “We have regions in France and that’s the number of the region where I live. I won my first race with the 68 and that’s why I kept this number as much as possible.” The WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO visits 10 great venues but imagine if you could add one more. So, what would it be? “Bathurst. It’s another iconic track. We have quite a lot of iconic tracks on the calendar already, but Bathurst is another one with a lot of downhill and uphill and it can be quite good for the touring cars with all the kerbs and stuff.” What’s the typical Yann Ehrlacher pre-race procedure? “When I dress myself, I start always with the right side. When I put my t-shirt on it’s always the right arm first, the right leg for the pants, the right hand for the gloves. Then I cross my finger three times, I touch my head three times and I’m set to drive.” Looking to the future, how will you keep busy when you eventually decide to stop racing? “I just started to train myself to do triathlon and it takes quite a lot of time to train. So I would say ironman and long-distance events would be something I would like to do.”

FIVE FACTS: Lights fantastic: Vernay’s once promising single-seater career – he was -backed in the and came close to winning the Macau Grand Prix from pole in 2009 – took him to the USA in 2010 where he won the Indy Lights title. Although he tested an IndyCar, he was unable to secure a race for 2011. Sportscars of desire: Sportscars would prove a useful – and profitable – distraction for Vernay. He won the Porsche Carrera Cup title in France for Sébastien Loeb Racing in 2012 and claimed a class victory in the Le Mans 24 Hours the following season. He also enjoyed success in the WEC and the Blancpain Endurance Series, and raced in Super GT in Japan. Old and new: While Team WRT has been Vernay’s Home since 2015, his switch to an Audi RS 3 LMS from a Volkswagen Golf for 2018 represented unchartered territory for the Frenchman. But it didn’t take him long to adapt: he won the second race of the inaugural season in Morocco. Big title winner: By claiming the TCR International Series crown in 2017, having finished third the previous season, Vernay joined the WTCR / OSCARO grid in 2018 as a big title winner. He built on his strong reputation with four wins and fifth place in the final standings. Did you know? -based Vernay, who has a degree in communication science and speaks Japanese, is not short of touring car racing experience. Between 2016 and 2017 he managed 48 race starts. When he’s not racing, Vernay co-commentates on Formula One races for French television.

FAST FIVE: Is there a special pre-race routine you carry out? “I do my exercises and I am very superstitious, especially with my helmets. I had a Mexican design with a dead head on top, but it was not working so now I have a new one that I hope will be a bit quicker! When I was younger, I was watching a lot of ski jumping and I really loved the Austrian guy, Andreas Goldberger, because he was doing some weird stuff right before the jump, so I always did this kind of thing because I was a fan of him.” If you could pick your fantasy podium which two drivers would join you? “Kévin Estre and Loïc Duval. They are both very close friends. Kévin grew up in the same building and on the same floor as me. His mum is the godmother of my sister and I was the best man for his wedding. And Loïc because he did many things for me, especially when I was in Japan. It’s really rare when another driver helps another driver so to share something on the podium, even as team-mates, would be awesome.” What’s your post-racing ambition in life? “I have a pretty cool life – I do the job I want to do because I knew I would be a race car driver when I was four years old! When everything is going right you have quite a lot of free time, so I am doing golf and making other businesses. I don’t think I’m going to be like Gabriele [Tarquini and keep racing] to be honest. I think I would like to do some other things at some point. Hopefully one day I will have a family, so I will have to take care of my kids because at one point the travelling is going to stop.” You’ve been given the responsibility of adding an 11th venue to the existing calendar. What track would you choose? “I like Pau but Monza would be fun and we need overtaking. The Audi would suit it pretty well.” Why did you pick number 69 for your Audi RS 3 LMS? “The Lyon district in France is 69 and I am a Super Lyonnais! I have always been fighting with friends and family about Lyon and Saint Etienne in football. I am for Lyon so this was a good way to make a point!”

FIVE FACTS: In good company: Moving to Europe in 2002 after success in karting and Formula Renault in Argentina, Guerrieri once raced Hamilton, Ricciardo and Vettel in Formula 3. He was also rapid in Formula 3000, World Series by Renault and Indy Lights before budget constraints hit. Opportunity knocks: With opportunities to continue racing without a roof over his head limited, a switch to Argentine Súper 2000 via the series provided salvation in 2013. One-off wonder: Following domestic success, Guerrieri made his WTCC debut with a one-off appearance at home in 2016 and set the fastest lap of all during the Termas de Río Hondo weekend. That set plans in motion to race in the WTCC full time in 2017. Dream start: Guerrieri began WTCC 2017 with victory on the Marrakech streets for the privateer Campos team and triumphed again at Ningbo before he was recruited by the factory Honda team to replace the injured Tiago Monteiro for the final three events of the season. He didn’t disappoint, winning the Qatar finale from pole. He’s been a Honda Racing family member ever since and claimed two WTCR / OSCARO wins in 2018 on his wat to third in the final table. Did you know? “When I was five I asked my mother to jump in a go-kart and when I was seven I asked her to change me to a bilingual school because Ayrton Senna said that to be a professional driver you need to know how to manage a computer and how to speak English. Most days when I was 12 or 13, I woke up and would say to my mother I go to school now but when I am asked to race in Europe you let me go. And she said: ‘I will let you go but now you have to go to school’. I already said that before it happened so when it happened, she had to let me go! In fact, I finished my secondary school in 2016. I left the school when I was 15 and I had two years to do and I went back and did it. I like tennis but, in the future, I would like to study marketing or public relations.”

FAST FIVE: Who would join you on your fantasy podium, any category, any era? “Ayrton Senna would be number two and three. Senna was my hero and I would beat him but only by half a car in the last lap after I overtake him on the outside of the final corner. Patrese became my friend [after we raced together in the ] and he’s a lovely guy.” If you could pick track number 11 to join the WTCR / OSCARO schedule what would it be? “It’s quite easy, San Juan in Argentina. I have never been there yet, but I like to go back to my home country and have a look at this track because they say it’s mega.” Is there a pre-race routine that you follow? “I don’t have any superstitions, but I always do my routine. I put some music on, I do mobility, jumping over the rope, throwing the balls up for some reaction. I’m just waking up my body and my senses.” You carry number 86 on your Honda Civic Type R TCR. Why? “It just came in the WTCC race at Termas de Río Hondo in 2016. The category proposed me number 86 because it was 30 years since Argentina won the FIFA World Cup. After that I liked the number 86 and it was a way to thank the category for the opportunity they gave me. It will stay with me always.” What plans do you have for the future when you eventually stop racing? “I like to communicate so something in communication to give back somehow what the sport gave me. That would be one of my ambitions giving back to society what I learned from the sport. Many things can open but I would like to communicate what my experience has been and what other people could experience to discover their passion.”

FIVE FACTS: Multi-skilled: Dutchman Catsburg is well known for his versatility having gained experience in single-seaters, sportscars and touring cars. And he’s been a winner in all those disciplines too, while established a glowing reputation as a driver coach. Been here before (kind of): While the 2019 season will mark Catsburg’s first campaign in WTCR / OSCARO, he’s no stranger to FIA World Touring Car racing with 58 starts – and two victories – in the WTCC to his name. Sensational start: And it was a sensational start to life in the WTCC when he finished fourth in only his second race at the wheel of a factory LADA Vesta at the midway through the 2015 season. Busy year: Catsburg’s 2019 programme will also include campaigns in the FIA World Endurance Championship and Intercontinental GT Challenge as a member of the factory BMW squad. Did you know? Catsburg’s first taste of TCR machinery came when he tested a Hyundai i30 N TCR at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in December 2018.

FAST FIVE: You race with the number 88 on your BRC Hyundai N LUKOIL Racing Team entry. Why? “I’m really not a number kind of guy. Some drivers stick to a number. I didn’t have a good reason, but my wife then said we got married on 8 August so that’s my choice.” Given the choice of two drivers to join you on the ultimate podium, any category, any era, who would join you? “I would choose and Lewis Hamilton – Catsburg, Verstappen, Hamilton podium would be cool! Lewis Hamilton now is pretty much the best in the world other than Verstappen. It’s not because Verstappen is Dutch and I’m Dutch, but he’s an unbelievable talent and probably the best driver in the world.” There are 10 great venues on the WTCR / OSCARO schedule. But if you could add one more what would it be? “Bathurst. It’s one of those tracks that’s just amazing. It’s very much unlike anywhere else. We already have Macau, the Nordschleife, Vila Real, very unique places, so why not add Bathurst? I’m sure the spectators would love it, the drivers would love it, it’s a very cool place.” Do you have any pre-race superstitions? “No superstitions, not at all. I try to prepare as best I can, going through the data of the previous years. If I can I always go on the simulator to get back into the rhythm of the track but that’s it.” Is there a plan when you stop racing? “Hopefully I will have done so well that I can do nothing, that would be nice! I would spend my day nothing. I would love to travel a lot, maybe I would continue in motorsport but I’m not sure yet.”

FAST FIVE: Which two drivers would you pick to join you on the ultimate podium, any category, any era? “Fernando Alonso because he is my idol since I was a child. The other one would be Mattias Ekström. He is one guy I know from when I raced in the Audi TT Cup. He’s a good guy, a good reference for me and to be on the podium with these two guys would be great.” If you could add another great venue to the existing 10 already on the WTCR / OSCARO schedule what would it be? “It would be great if we could drive at the , my home track. I have a lot of laps there and I know it very good. With my family and friends, it would be great if we could drive there.” What is your pre-race routine? “I have a routine before each session. I prefer to be alone for 15 or 20 minutes before I enter into the car. Sometimes I listen to music with headphones, but especially I like to be alone. I also like to enter the car with time. Ten minutes before the green light I enter into the car to try to try to be focused, try not to be stressed, thinking about the session. For the races when I am on the pre- grid since I was a child, I do a ritual when I cross three times.” How will you keep busy when you stop racing? “My world is around the motorsport since always because I started when I was five years old. I started working four years ago in a mechanical workshop because I like to be around the cars and around the engines. But for my future, first of all I would like to be a world champion but then I would love to have a motorsport team, Mikel Azcona Motorsport, with my people working there, with my own drivers growing up.” Why do you carry number 96 on your CUPRA TCR? “It’s 96 because always I choose 25 but this year Mehdi Bennani has 25 and I need to change. I choose 96 because it’s the year of my birth.”

FIVE FACTS: Best of the best: With more titles (four), wins (48), poles (29), fastest laps (38) and laps led (571), Muller became the most successful driver in FIA World Touring Car Championship history. A family affair: Muller followed in the wheel tracks of older sister Cathy by going racing, while her son and his nephew, Yann Ehrlacher, has is team-mate on the WTCR / OSCARO grid. Ice is not always nice: After making it 10 titles in the Andros Trophy ice racing series, Muller was effectively banned for continuing in the series he’d dominated for many winters. Mr Versatile: As well as being an accomplished circuit racer – he took the British F2 crown in 1992 – Muller’s CV also lists Dakar and World Rally Championship outings, while his touring car career has included stints in France, Germany, Italy and the UK. Did you know? Had he not tried motorsport for size Muller admits he would have joined the family haulage business, meaning trucking’s loss was very much touring car racing’s gain.

FAST FIVE: Who would join you on your ultimate fantasy podium? “Yann [Ehrlacher], my nephew, for sure, then I would like to be on the podium with Gabriele [Tarquini] because we did so many together and maybe Tiago [Monteiro] because we are here since a long time, but it could also be Rob Huff or Tom Coronel.” Just imagine that an 11thvenue is going to be added to the WTCR / OSCARO schedule, what would you choose? “Bathurst because it’s a fantastic track but I feel it’s too complicated to go there.” What’s the story behind your race number, 100? “Normally I have 68 but I leave it to Yann so last year I took the 48 because I was 48 years old at the start of last season. This year I said I want to be the only one with three numbers, then Andy [Priaulx] came with 111!” Do you have a pre-race ritual? “I go for a wee, always! But I am not superstitious, that is when you are not strong enough!” What will the future hold when you stop driving? “I will not announce my retirement anymore! I announce already once and I really wanted to not be the one to do his comeback, but I did although it was not planned at all. Next time I stop, I stop but I don’t tell anybody! For sure it has been a good comeback, but I didn’t really want it. For the future I still have my team and maybe I retire this year, maybe never.”

FIVE FACTS: Climbing high: After a motocross stint in his native Channel Islands, Priaulx continued a family tradition by trying hillclimbing for size – and with big success, taking the British title in 1995 with 10 wins and eight course records. Move to the mainland: Intent on forging a career in motorsport, Priaulx relocated to England where he worked as a race-driving instructor, while attempting to climb up the single-seater ranks. Funding was tight to the extent home was a caravan for a time, but he reached the heights of British F3 where he became a race winner. On the path to world domination: By 2002, Priaulx was winning in touring cars. Initial success in the British championship was followed by wins in Europe as a factory BMW driver – and the 2004 FIA European Touring Car Championship crown. With the ETCC becoming the FIA World Touring Car Championship the following year, Priaulx was well-placed to savour more glory. And he made the most of the opportunity by winning the WTCC title three seasons running, the first coming in a dramatic championship showdown in Macau in 2005. More recognition: Awarded an MBE (Member of the British Empire) for services to motorsport in 2008, Priaulx raced on in the WTCC until the end of the 2010 season, leaving the championship as an 18-time race winner. Stints in the DTM and the FIA World Endurance Championship have followed and Priaulx will combine his maiden WTCR / OSCARO campaign in 2019 with a programme in the WEC with the Chip Ganassi Ford tean. Did you know? Priaulx’s capture of three world titles plus numerous other successes has earned him a number of plaudits, including the late Sir John Surtees, who once said: “Andy Priaulx is an outstanding sportsman and a worthy champion”.

FAST FIVE: Who would join you on your fantasy podium? “I’d like to have had the chance to share a podium with Jim Clark, Ayrton Senna and , those would be pretty special people to share a podium with. Mansell inspired me a lot when I was growing up, he was such a committed racer.” Why did you choose number 111 for your first season in WTCR / OSCARO? “To celebrate the three world titles. I don’t like number 1, Thed [Björk] had number 11, so we were like ‘let’s try 111’, we got it and it’s nice.” If you could add track 11 to the WTCR / OSCARO calendar what would you choose? “Bathurst because it’s got half of Macau and half of Spa, two great tracks in one. It would be great to have WTCR there.” Do you have a pre-race ritual? “I used to but I think it shows a sign of weakness when you have to do all those crazy things out of the car. I just prepare in a nice, calm and focused way.” What does the future hold when you decide to stop racing one day? “The alternative to racing is too ugly to even consider! But I’ve got a lot going on with my family, my son is doing very, very well. I know that dads should steer well clear of their sons in racing, but I can at least follow him and enjoy watching him be successful and not have the pressure. I will always be around motor racing because I have such a long experience that I would like to share with other drivers or with a team. There will always be something for me to do.”

If you liked it in 2018, you’re going to love it in 2019! Season two of the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO is go and if you liked it in 2018, you’re going to love it in 2019!

New drivers, new cars, a new track and a new point-scoring system are just some of what’s in store during the upcoming campaign when one of motorsport’s big success stories of recent years changes up another gear.

Kicking off in Morocco, WTCR / OSCARO season two includes stops in Hungary, Slovakia, Netherlands, Germany, Portugal, China, Japan and Macau with newcomer Malaysia hosting the super-finale.

A brief history The WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO replaced the FIA World Touring Car Championship for the 2018 season and was an instant hit with more drivers, more cars, more races and more action thrilling fans across the globe.

Promoted by Eurosport Events and administered by the FIA – the organisations behind the WTCC – a licencing agreement with WSC (owner of the TCR concept and trademark) permits the use of the TCR technical regulations, a more accessible and affordable set of touring car rules when compared to the previous TC1 era. Alfa Romeo, Audi, CUPRA, Honda, Hyundai, Lynk & Co and Volkswagen have embraced the regulations through their customer racing departments.

WTCR / OSCARO season two is contested over 30 races across 10 weekends in three continents from April to December. Each event typically takes place over three days and consists of two free practice sessions, two qualifying sessions and three races with the majority of the action broadcast live.

A maximum of 32 all-season entries are permitted with wildcards also considered, subject to circuit conditions and approval. With no manufacturers’ title awarded under cost-control measures, WTCR / OSCARO caters for private teams although a number of drivers are supported by brand customer racing divisions.

Standardised points… for top 15 WTCR / OSCARO gets a new points system for 2019 with the aim of ensuring more drivers can score points more often. The top 15 drivers according to the final classification of Races 1, 2 and 3 are rewarded as follows:

First Qualifying pace rewarded with points Points are distributed not only following Second Qualifying as in 2018 but following First Qualifying as well. The fastest five drivers according to the final classification score as follows:

Q3 running order adjusted The running order for the Q3 phase of Second Qualifying is adjusted with the driver setting the fastest time in Q2 choosing their starting order in the five-car Q3 shootout first followed by the second fastest driver and so on. It means the quickest driver in Q2 will no longer have to wait for four other drivers to complete their Q3 runs before attempting their own Q3 lap. The change follows feedback from drivers who felt they could be disadvantage by waiting in the pitlane because of the potential drop-off in car performance and tyre temperature, for example.

Entry restrictions introduced In order to balance participation between the customer racing brands competing in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO (Alfa Romeo, Audi, CUPRA, Honda, Hyundai, Lynk & co and Volkswagen), a maximum of four cars per brand with two-car teams only are permitted.

There will be 26 all-season entries with an allowance for a maximum of six wildcard entries at selected events, subject to approval.

Free Practice 1 on the move WTCR / OSCARO events typically take place over three days to avoid timetables becoming too congested. As a result, Free Practice 1 takes place on day one, and is extended to 45 minutes to increase track time for teams and drivers.

Tweaks to testing rules too To preserve track time equity and avoid budget increases, further testing restrictions are in place for 2019. No testing is allowed on any WTCR circuit prior to or during a race weekend once the season is underway.

On-event staff numbers restricted Ten armbands are issued per team and only those operational staff assigned an armband, having registered with the FIA before each event, are allowed to work on cars for duration of an event.

WTCR qualifying explained* First Qualifying: All cars on track for 30 minutes (40 at street tracks and Nürburgring Nordschleife). Grid for Race 1 based on final classification. Fastest five score points on 5-4-3-2-1 basis Second Qualifying Q1: All drivers on track for 20 minutes (30 at street tracks). Fastest 12 progress to Q2, all others are eliminated. Second Qualifying Q2: 12 drivers on track for 10 minutes (15 at street tracks). At completion of session driver in P10 takes the DHL Pole Position for Race 2, driver in P9 starts second, driver in P8 third, etc down to P10. The fastest five progress to Q3. Second Qualifying Q3: Five drivers get one lap in the shootout for the DHL Pole Position. Drivers in conjunction with their team managers get a 20s window to choose the order in which they attempt their single qualifying run (first, second, third, fourth or fifth). Fastest driver in Q2 chooses first, second fastest chooses second etc. Grid for Race 2 based on top 10 from Q2 reversed plus all remaining drivers from P11 in Q2 downwards. Grid for Race 3 based on combined times of Second Qualifying. Fastest five in Q3 score points on 5-4-3-2-1 basis *Second Qualifying at the Nürburgring Nordschleife runs as one 40-minute session, no Q1, Q2, Q3)

Technically speaking Licensed by WSC to Eurosport Events and the FIA as the FIA WTCR regulations, the TCR (Touring Car Racing) technical regulations are frozen until the end of 2019. Only TCR cars homologated by WSC and assigned with the FIA WTCR technical passport issued by the FIA are eligible for all-season participation (wildcard entries will not require a technical passport). The FIA and TCR technical departments determine the (BOP) ahead of the opening event of the season following an extensive period of assessment and analysis.

To further balance performance, additional weight to a maximum of 60 kilos may be added to cars based on a lap time calculation. Each car is assigned one engine for the season and any changes will result in grid penalties. Furthermore, a maximum of five turbos per car per year can be used. The FIA will be responsible for technical management in consultation with TCR representatives. Cars racing in WTCR / OSCARO use Yokohama tyres as standard.

TCR in short TCR cars are front-wheel-drive, four/five-door saloons or hatchbacks using turbocharged production engines with a capacity of between 1750-2000cc and with a maximum power output of 350hp. Some 20 TCR-based championships or series exist around the world, while several manufacturers have, or are in the process, of homologating TCR cars. To date, more than 600 TCR racing cars have been built and sold to customer teams.
