An event study proposal A thesis submitted to the Miami University Honors Program in partial fulfillment of the requirements for University Honors with Distinction by Meredith Seurkamp May 2006 Oxford, Ohio ii ABSTRACT NASCAR Sponsorship: Who is the Real Winner? An event study proposal by Meredith Seurkamp This paper investigates the costs and benefits of NASCAR sponsorship. Sports sponsorship is increasing in popularity as marketers attempt to build more personal relationships with their consumers. These sponsorships range from athlete endorsements to the sponsorship of an event or physical venue. These types of sponsorships have a number of costs and benefits, as reviewed in this paper, and the individual firm must use its discretion whether sports sponsorship coincides with its marketing goals. NASCAR, a sport that has experienced a recent boom in popularity, is one of the most lucrative sponsorship venues in professional sports. NASCAR, which began as a single race in 1936, now claims seventy-five million fans and over one hundred FORTUNE 500 companies as sponsors. NASCAR offers a wide variety of sponsorship opportunities, such as driver sponsorship, event sponsorship, track signage, and a number of other options. This paper investigates the fan base at which these marketing messages are directed. Research of NASCAR fans indicates that these fans are typically more brand loyal than the average consumer. NASCAR fans exhibit particular loyalty to NASCAR sponsors that financially support the auto racing sport. The paper further explains who composes the NASCAR fan base and how NASCAR looks to expand into additional markets. -

A Framework for Assurance of Medication Safety using Machine Learning Yan Jia1 Tom Lawton2 John McDermid1 Eric Rojas3 Ibrahim Habli1 Abstract— Medication errors continue to be the leading cause of avoidable patient harm in hospitals. This paper sets out a framework to assure medication safety that combines machine learning and safety engineering methods. It uses safety analysis to proactively identify potential causes of medication error, based on expert opinion. As healthcare is now data rich, it is possible to augment safety analysis with machine learning to discover actual causes of medication error from the data, and to identify where they deviate from what was predicted in the safety analysis. Combining these two views has the potential to enable the risk of medication errors to be managed proactively and dynamically. We apply the framework to a case study involving thoracic surgery, e.g. oesophagectomy, where errors in giving beta-blockers can be critical to control atrial fibrillation. This case study combines a HAZOP-based safety analysis method known as SHARD with Bayesian network structure learning and process mining to produce the analysis results, showing the potential of the framework for ensuring patient safety, and for transforming the way that safety is managed in complex healthcare environments. It aims to identify hazards, hazard causes and mitigations, and associated risks before a system is deployed. The system is then monitored during its deployment to manage risks. When systems are used in highly controlled environments, built using components with a long service history, these predictions can be accurate. -

The 2021 Corporate Partners and Participating Manufacturers Contingency Program is the Series Prize Money and Decal Program, the contingency program which allows sponsors to support the drivers, team members, and car owners with per race and year end awards. The 2021 Corporate Partners and Participating Manufacturers Contingency Program rewards teams and drivers for displaying sponsor decals, and for utilizing sponsor products and services. Sponsor representation includes display of decal, and presence in victory lane, plus the opportunity to integrate components into the core of the sport. All Posted Awards and Point Fund earnings won by any team member (driver, crew chief, etc.) shall be paid by ARCA (or Sponsoring Entity), to the registered/entered team owner via ACH transfer of funds. Any participant earning points or winning specific awards as a team member for more than one team/owner in a single season shall have all awards payable to team owner(s) based on the number of race points/awards earned per team. The team owner, and not ARCA, shall be solely responsible for the distribution of such Posted Awards to the respective team member. July – August 2011 www.superbirdclub.com email: [email protected] The Heat is On – What I Did on My Summer Vacation Well it has been a busy summer for far at club headquarters. We have not stopped running since the end of June, but it sure has been a lot fun. I have burned a fair amount of 9 mpg gas in my Hemi Ram pulling the enclosed trailer back and forth. The Cleveland national meet in June was well organized and a very nice time. Doug and Carol Croxford did a great job and we were kept hopping with a full slate of activities every day. The weather was a little wet, but I don’t think we had a real rain out at any point in time, and it did not slow us down at all. The car count was less than expected for the effort involved, but I realize the Indianapolis meet announcement prevented some cars from coming. Cleveland was a nice place to visit with a beautiful lakefront. It’s definitely a place I would like to return to. The club picnic on July 24th drew 14 local Ford and Mopar aero cars to club headquarters on a very warm Sunday, and it was one of the better turnouts in recent years. There are a large number of these cars in Wisconsin for whatever reason, and it makes it easy to have a nice display on the front lawn. The next weekend after the picnic it was on to Indianapolis and the Brickyard 400, and the heat was on – like a blast furnace. -

The components of the car must retain their original function. 1.2 Application of the general prescriptions The general prescriptions must be observed in the event that the specifications of Production Cars (Group N), Touring Cars (Group A), do not lay down a more strict prescription. 1.3 Material The use of a material which has a specific yield modulus greater than 40 Gpa/g/cm3 is forbidden, with the exception of plugs, exhaust coatings, water pump turbo joints, brake pads, brakecalliper piston coatings, rolling elements of bearings (balls, needles, rollers), electronic components and sensors, parts weighing less than 20 g and all coatings with a thickness less than or equal to10 microns. The use of a metallic material which has a specific yield modulus Greater than 30 Gpa/g/cm3 or of which the maximum specific UTS is Greaterthan: •0.24 Mpa/kg/m3 for non-iron‐based alloys and •0.30 Mpa/kg/m3 for iron‐based alloys is forbidden for the making of all the parts that are free or homologated as an Option Variant.
