Loddiswell Primary School Newsletter Thursday 7th July 2016 www.loddiswellprimaryschool.co.uk

Dear Parents and Carers

An early newsletter this week as we are all at Bantham Beach on Friday. A great day of games and activities is planned, and for those who have booked, an exciting surfing lesson. If you have volunteered to drive and/or stay for the day you will receive an e-mail from Alice with a confirmation.

Please make sure your child has sun cream applied if needed before school. If a top up is required during the day make sure you send it in a sealed plastic bag. Lots of non-fizzy drinks (in plastic bottles please), a packed lunch and some fruit and snacks will be required as it will be a long day in the sun. Please wear beach appropriate clothing (with a waterproof coat) a hat, and shoes you can wear in the water for paddling as there is a possibility of weaver fish which can give a nasty sting if trodden on. All children will need collecting from Bantham at 3.15pm. As the lanes can get very easily congested can we suggest a spot of car- pooling may be a good idea.

SAT’s Results Year 6 received their results this week and letters have gone home to parents today. They all did really well and we are very pleased and extremely proud to say that our average score across all subjects was 88% (the national average is 53%). Well done to all of them. KCC will be lucky to get a group of such well motivated learners. A big thank you to Mrs Teague for all her efforts this year.

Devon Youth Games Amy, Katie, Sam and Charlie took part in the Mini Tennis Competition in on Sunday. They had a fabulous day and Pat said that for beginners they played with great enthusiasm. They represented the whole of the and played against others with far more experience. He said “I was very impressed with the way our team conducted themselves. The conditions were not easy, it was hot and quite windy but they stuck to their task. Congratulations to the team on a job well done. It was a pleasure to be a part of it”

Music Assembly & Rounders All of our pupils who take music lessons and sing in the school choir will be showing us what they have learnt this year at a special Music Assembly on Friday 15th July at 2pm until 3.15pm. Everyone is welcome to come and watch. Afterwards, at the school field we will be holding our annual children versus parents rounders match. Come and enter, if you dare!

Class 1 Forest School FS and Year 1 completed our year of Forest Schools with Moira at Andrews Wood last Friday. They all had a great time making shelters (Emma & Ben are pictured in the finished construction). They also made damper bread which they wrapped around sticks and cooked over the camp fire. They all said how delicious it was. Many thanks to all the volunteer drivers and Ms Gardner, Mrs Pinchin, Mr Moore and our own Carol who helped us out in the woods.

We are very grateful to Avon Mill Garden Centre for their continued sponsorship of these days out. Our children have very lucky to have access to this valuable resource.

Year 6 Residential Mrs Teague and our Year 6's met up with children from throughout the Federation last week when they stayed at Grenville House in . They had an extremely full week taking part in coasteering, paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing, high rope climbing, problem solving and raft building. They had a chance to forge friendships with other children that they will be seeing more of in September at KCC. Ryan said "This was an exciting adventure. I did things I never thought I could do" and Fin said "Grenville House was very exciting and the activities were inspiring". They got a chance to relax in the evening, going for ice creams and organising a stone skimming competition. We are very proud of how the good behaviour of our children reflected on our school and what lovely young adults they are becoming.

Foundation Parent’s Evening The appointment sheet is available in reception. Please sign up to see Miss Nicholls next Wednesday.

School dinner balances With the end of term fast approaching, all school dinner balances need to be paid before the last day of term. We will be sending home a statement of your balance on Friday next week. This must be paid before the end of term. It will not include dinners taken on Monday 18th or Tuesday 19th so please add £2.25 for each day as appropriate.
