Institutional Political Developments from the Assembly of Durres to the Congress of Lushnja
E-ISSN 2281-4612 Academic Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies Vol 5 No 2 ISSN 2281-3993 MCSER Publishing, Rome-Italy July 2016 Institutional Political Developments from the Assembly of Durres to the Congress of Lushnja Eldi Sherifi PhD candidate, Faculty of Law, University of Tirana Doi:10.5901/ajis.2016.v5n2p187 Abstract There are several historical studies on the Congress of Durrës and Congress of Lushnja, but in my opinion further studies should be conducted on the history of political institutions and their political organizing operators as well as their inhibitors. On July 29, 1913 the Great powers declared Albania a Hereditary and Sovereign Autonomous Principality. At the Peace Conference in 1919, Clemenceau and Lloyd defended the thesis of "inability of Albanians to Self Government" and offered the solution of sharing the governance responsibility between Yugoslavia and Italy to implement the Secret Treaty of London on 26 April 1915. The Congress of Durres was held after the conclusion of the First World War. It was led by Mehmet Konica and Myfit Libohova. Delegates elected the interim government and the delegation for representing Albania at the Peace Conference in Paris. The Congress of Lushnja came as an illuminating meteor in the dark and hopeless institutional environment. Its development destroyed the anti-Albanian political intrigues. After they toppled the government of Durres by voting against it, the congress delegates established all the powers of the state, according to the principles of Montesquieu. Through several transparent procedures they established "National Council", "Supreme Council" and the Cabinet. The evidence and acts sources of law served as the legal basis. -

Accepted: 10 May 2018 “ALWAYS BAYRAM, ALWAYS EASTER”: THE CALL FOR ALBANIAN CIVIC UNITY IN GJERGJ FISHTA’S THE HIGHLAND LUTE Abstract Gjergj Fishta’s verse narrative, Lahuta e Malcis (ca. 1907) is often regarded as the national epic of Albanians. The epic produces a fresh vision of the shared cultural identity of Albanians by telling the story of their struggle for independence blended with elements of regional and local culture which had never before entered into high literary language. The paper argues that Fishta creates a national epic not just by the events he narrates in the poem but also by the language and imagery he uses. The poem’s language puts Albanian modes of expression into high literature, depicts Muslim and Christian Albanian practices in a manner that emphasizes their common ground, and utilizes Albanian folklore such as the mythological creatures called zana and ora, which lie outside both the Christian and Muslim religions, but are closely associated with the land. In emphasizing the Albanian land, language, and culture, Fishta’s epic poem crafts a civic Albanian identity that embraces Albanian religious diversity and transcends sectarian identifications. -
Rome's Last Efforts Towards the Union of Orthodox Albanians (1929-1946)
Journal of Eastern Christian Studies 58(1-2), 41-83. doi: 10.2143/JECS.58.1.2017736 © 2006 by Journal of Eastern Christian Studies. All rights reserved. ROME’S LAST EFFORTS TOWARDS THE UNION OF ORTHODOX ALBANIANS (1929-1946) INES ANGJELI MURZAKU* INTRODUCTION It would probably be improper to study the history of the Albanian Greek Catholic Church in unity with Rome in isolation from a concurrent move- ment, that is, the struggle to establish an Albanian Autocephalous Church. The two movements have something in common: they were both animated by the desire of the Albanian people for national identity. Indeed, Albania is not an isolated case scenario in ecclesiastical history. Analogous developments have taken place in other Eastern European countries; the case of Bulgaria is the classical example. The move of the Bulgarian Orthodoxy toward Rome was largely inspired by the wish to restore their national identity after cen- turies of coercion, not only by the Turks but also from the Greeks.1 In nine- teenth-century Bulgaria, when the struggle for autocephaly was gaining momentum, several influential Bulgarian Orthodox faithful in Constantino- ple began to contemplate union with Rome as a solution to their national problems. They thought that as Orthodox they would be able to revive their national ecclesiastical traditions, which they thought Constantinople had denied them.2 In fact, the Greeks were profoundly hated in Bulgaria, because * Ines Angjeli Murzaku is Associate Professor of Religious Studies at Seton Hall Univer- sity in South Orange, New Jersey, an Adjunct Associate Professor of Historical Theology at the Graduate School of Theology, Immaculate Conception Seminary, and Lecturer at the Centro per l’Europa Centro-Orientale e Balcanica of the University of Bologna. -
The Critical Reception of Gjergj Fishta During 1944 - 1990
E-ISSN 2281-4612 Academic Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies Vol 2 No 3 ISSN 2281-3993 MCSER Publishing, Rome-Italy November 2013 The Critical Reception of Gjergj Fishta during 1944 - 1990 Dr. Lili Sula Faculty of History and Philology Departament of Literature, University of Tirana Doi:10.5901/ajis.2013.v2n3p99 Abstract Gjergj Fishta is one of the most important writers of Albanian literature. He holds a central place in the Albanian literary system. Until 1990s, his work was censured creating a typical reception model in our literature at the time; that is the critical ideological reception. The critical reception of Fishta’s work during (1944 – 1990) presents a typical phenomena of a malfunctioning of the scheme of communication and circulation of the artistic value. The literary and religious activity of Gjergj Fishta was anathematized. It was the totalitarian regime’s policy and practice to attack any deviation from the socialist realism platform and/or any religious activity and practice of various religions representatives. What generally characterizes the critical judgment of this period is a poor qualitative and quantitative judgment, the homogenization of the critical reception of the author’s work according to the ideological reception model and the axiomatic formulation of the conclusions without doing an analytical interpretation. The critical reception of Fishta’s work in this period presents one of the anathemized models of the reception of the author, a typical ideological reception model, which had quite a significant impact in the Albanian literary system. Gjergj Fishta is one of the most important writers of Albanian literature. He holds a central place in the Albanian literary system. -

Of Women, Faith, and Nation: American Protestantism and the Kyrias School For Girls, Albania by Nevila Pahumi A dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (History) in the University of Michigan 2016 Doctoral Committee: Professor Pamela Ballinger, Co-Chair Professor John V.A. Fine, Co-Chair Professor Fatma Müge Göçek Professor Mary Kelley Professor Rudi Lindner Barbara Reeves-Ellington, University of Oxford © Nevila Pahumi 2016 For my family ii Acknowledgements This project has come to life thanks to the support of people on both sides of the Atlantic. It is now the time and my great pleasure to acknowledge each of them and their efforts here. My long-time advisor John Fine set me on this path. John’s recovery, ten years ago, was instrumental in directing my plans for doctoral study. My parents, like many well-intended first generation immigrants before and after them, wanted me to become a different kind of doctor. Indeed, I made a now-broken promise to my father that I would follow in my mother’s footsteps, and study medicine. But then, I was his daughter, and like him, I followed my own dream. When made, the choice was not easy. But I will always be grateful to John for the years of unmatched guidance and support. In graduate school, I had the great fortune to study with outstanding teacher-scholars. It is my committee members whom I thank first and foremost: Pamela Ballinger, John Fine, Rudi Lindner, Müge Göcek, Mary Kelley, and Barbara Reeves-Ellington. -

The first chapters will be devoted to the elaboration of a proper theoretical background and historical framing to the concept of national epic poetry and its role in the cultivation of national thought in Europe. -
Rexhep Qosja Kosovo PUBLISHED
Kosovo Nora Sefa interviewed Rexhep Qosja Interview date: 15 January 2020 Sefa: We’re here today with Professor Rexhep Qosja at the Albanological Institute in Pristina. Professor Qosja, thank you for having me and for finding the time for this meeting. Qosja: Welcome to the Albanological Institute. It is an honour for me to be included in the European Archive of Voices. Sefa: I am Nora, and I’ll be your interviewer today. Let’s start with some questions, we have various topics to cover and the first, Professor, is to ask about your origins, your home, where you were born, your childhood. You were born in the village of Vuthaj in Montenegro, an Albanian enclave, which I believe still exists today. What was your childhood like, do you remember it well? Qosja: I was born in the village of Vuthaj. According to Eqrem Çabej [Albanian linguist, 1908-1980], the name of this village is derived from the Albanian words vu or vëne, the location where they were “placed,” meaning where some people who came from Kelmend were placed, and where they “settled.” The village is on the border with Albania. Actually, it is a village that belongs to the Valley of Plav and Guci [or Plav-Gusinje Valley]. This valley has two small towns which played a historic role at the time of the League of Prizren, a unique historic role at that time. During the time of the League of Prizren, which gathered in the town of Prizren, in Kosovo, the Valley of Plav and Guci had their own representative in the League. -
Einführung in Die Albanologie
Wilfried Fiedler Einführung in die Albanologie Meißen 2006 (Vorläufige Version; Unvollständig) Einführung in die Albanologie 1 I. Bibliographie Die erste "Albanesische Bibliographie" von Ing. Manek, Dr. G. Pekmezi und Ob.- Leut. A. Stotz erschien in Wien 1909. -
