The Now Now is the sixth studio album by British virtual band Gorillaz During almost two decades in business, the mightiness of Gorillaz has been its mutability – it’s a pop-rock-hip-hop-free-trade- zone where anyone from Lou Reed to Vince Staples could show up and work a groove. But that’s also been its flaw: While last year’s Humanz brought some fire (notably the Pusha T- Mavis Staples collab “Let Me Out”), it felt more like a streaming algorithm than a coherent album. Mastermind Damon Albarn solves this particular problem on The Now Now, the sixth Gorillaz set since he launched the project, an integrated polyglot pop LP about, fittingly enough, the need for unity in fragmented times. For the first time in his career, we find Damon Albarn on the back foot. Since he and Blur swooned their way onto the scene in the early ‘90s, Albarn’s discography is remarkably free of absolute missteps. Sure, Blur didn’t cover themselves in glory on the half-arsed 2003 album ‘Think Tank’, and who actually has listened to much-derided side-project The Good, The Bad and The Queen. Gorillaz’ last album, 2017’s ‘Humanz’, however, is where things get a bit tricky. Gorillaz now now full album download. In 2017 while on tour with the Gorillaz, his imagination was already conceiving The Now Now on GarageBand software under the rooftops of American hotels. The result? Eleven fine-tuned tracks with Jamie Hewlett and his team. Here, Blur’s leader avoids surrounding himself too much. The record Humanz , released a year earlier, was flooded with a good fifteen featuring artists including Pusha T, Benjamine Clemantine and Peven Everett. The Now Now does the opposite. Where Humanz is hip-hop, collective and extroverted, The Now Now is pop, intimate and melancholic (see Fire Flies ). This sixth opus has the amplitude of an outdoor, off-screen, out-of-studio design, all the while maintaining a good dose of self-reflection.     When James Ford and Jas Shaw met at Manchester University in the late 1990s, they never imagined they'd end up creating a human synthesiser. But in their very earliest musical experiments together, something was set in motion which would lead to one of the most unusual careers in British music: one which has seen their creative mission transform again and again, inventing entirely new formats for music-making along the way. So perhaps the weaving of rich layers of human vocal tonalities sung by The Deep Throat Choir into the techno framework of their fifth studio album Murmurations isn't quite such an unexpected turn of events. In fact, they've been connecting the human voice with electronic sound since they first founded the band Simian with Simon Lord and Alex McNaughten. Simian was, in Jas's words, about “trying to show you could make band music with songs and harmonies but be into Autechre too". Named after "Simeon", the home-made early synth rig of early electronic experimentalists The Silver Apples, the band combined Crosby, Stills & Nash harmonies with hypnotic Krautrock rhythms, cosmic analogue synthesiser swooshes and an unmistakeable clubber's sense of groove - and somehow in the middle of all that managed to find something extraordinarily accessible. They were signed to a major label subsidiary in 2000, and made two albums that stand up in their own right now. But, Jas continues, it was "just at the moment the world was into the Strokes and White Stripes and straight-ahead rock music," and their rich, baroque tapestries of song and sound didn't reach the audience their ambition and beauty deserved.

However, before Obama’s election, a black American president had already appeared in popular culture, especially in comedic and sci-fi/disaster films and television series. Thus far, scholars have tread lightly on fictional black presidents in popular culture; however, those who have tend to suggest that these presidents—and the apparent unimportance of their race in these films—are evidence of the post-racial nature of these texts. However, this dissertation argues the contrary. This study’s contention is that, though the black president appears in films and televisions series in which his presidency is presented as evidence of a post-racial America, he actually fails to transcend race. Instead, these black cinematic presidents reaffirm race’s primacy in American culture through consistent portrayals and continued involvement in comedies and disasters. In order to support these assertions, this study first constructs a critical history of the fears of a black presidency, tracing those fears from this nation’s formative years to the present.

    INSURGENTS AND GUERILLAS , COWBOYS AND INDIANS , LIONS AND TIGERS AND BEARS Film and History in Kansas and the Great Plains edited and introduced by Thomas Prasch or anyone wondering how committed Hollywood is today to the historical film, this year’s Oscars provided ample evidence: four of the five pictures nominated for Best Picture (Frost/Nixon, Milk, The Reader, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button; indeed, all but the winning Slumdog Millionaire) were rooted in historical situations; add in a few stray nominations in other categories (Foreign Language Film, Costume Design), and it is ample testimony to the continued fascination of Hollywood with the historical past. And if none of the films reviewed in this year’s selection for FKansas History quite made that grade (two of the films under review, 3:10 to Yuma and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, did garner nominations in 2008, but not for Best Picture), it is nevertheless clear that, as long as filmmak- ers continue to find in historical events a framework for understanding, Kansas and the Great Plains are bound to figure in the mix. Why? Just ask Bob Dylan. Dylan, interviewed by the London Times about our new president, had this to say about Barack Obama and Kansas: “He’s got an interesting background. Trimble 5203 Flanders Avenue Kensington, Maryland 20895 September 1, 1982 Preface These are incomplete genealogies of selected Ford families located in the northwest or up-country of South Carolina just prior to and subsequent to the Revolutionary War. Most of the families followed herein moved to Tennessee and then to Kentucky before 1800. Some few families remained in South Carolina or Tennessee and some moved to Texas. The writer has never had adequate time to research these people, so this work in South Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky is very limited in scope. To facilitate the orderly presentation of data for many individuals, each person born with the surname Ford is given a two-part number divided by a dash ( -). The first part of this two-part number denotes the family group, i.e., each individual with the first part of this two-part number beginning with one ( 1- ) has descended from a common ancestor and his relationship to all other individuals with the same first number is known. The Ford name is extremely numerous, with many early immigrants, and any effort to determine relationships or non-relationships of all these early families is futile. In researching Fords, many groups were found. This research was done for the purpose of sorting out the two Ford lines (Groups 1- and 2- ), and in the process quite a bit was learned about other Ford groups, some of which are included herein. It is hoped this material will help the reader with his own Ford connections by eliminating or identifying with those shown herein.

    Brief Biographies of American Architects Who Died Between 1897 and 1947 Transcribed from the American Art Annual by Earle G. Shettleworth, Jr., Director, Maine Historic Preservation Commission. Between 1897 and 1947 the American Art Annual and its successor volume Who's Who in American Art included brief obituaries of prominent American artists, sculptors, and architects. During this fifty-year period, the lives of more than twelve-hundred architects were summarized in anywhere from a few lines to several paragraphs. Recognizing the reference value of this information, I have carefully made verbatim transcriptions of these biographical notices, substituting full wording for abbreviations to provide for easier reading. After each entry, I have cited the volume in which the notice appeared and its date. The word "photo" after an architect's name indicates that a picture and copy negative of that individual is on file at the Maine Historic Preservation Commission. While the Art Annual and Who's Who contain few photographs of the architects, the Commission has gathered these from many sources and is pleased to make them available to researchers.
