NEW Press Information Coburg, December 10th, 2010 NEW 2 The legend returns. The NEW STRATOS will be officially presented on 29./30.11.2010, at the Paul Ricard Circuit in Le Castellet. The legendary Lancia Stratos HF was without a doubt the most spectacular and successful rally car of the 70s. With its thrilling lines and uncompro- mising design tailored to rally use, the Stratos not only single-handedly rewrote the history of rallying, it won a permanent place in the hearts of its countless fans with its dramatic performance on the world’s asphalt and gravel tracks – a performance which included three successive world championship titles. For Michael Stoschek, a collector and driver of historic racing cars, as well as a successful entrepreneur in the automotive supply industry, the development and construction of a modern version of the Stratos represents the fulfillment of a long-held dream. Back in 2003, the dream had already begun to take on a concrete form; now, at last, it has become a reality: In November 2010, forty years after the Stratos’ presentation at the Turin Motor Show, the New Stratos will be publicly presented for the first time at the Paul Ricard Circuit. The legend returns. NEW 3 A retrospective. It all began in 1970, at the Turin exhibition stand of the automobile designer, Bertone. The extreme Stratos study on display there – a stylistic masterpiece by the designer Marcello Gandini – didn’t just excite visitors, but caught the attention of Cesare Fiorio, Lancia’s team manager at the time… and refused to let go.

  • Stars of the Stage
STARS OF THE STAGE When the World Rally Championship first began in 1973, only the car manufacturers fought for a crown; it wasn’t until 1979 that the drivers were recognised with their own world title. They soon made up for lost time, however, and over the past four decades the WRC has been a constant source of drama, heroism and displays of unbelievable skill. So as the Festival celebrates 40 years of the World Rally Drivers’ Championship this weekend, we remember some of those who have fought for and won the sport’s greatest prize STORY BY ANGUS FRAZER Left: Petter Solberg and co-driver Phil Mills celebrate victory in the 2002 Rally GB. Right: Sébastien Ogier powers his Citroën to third in the 2019 Argentine Rally Rallying’s first World Champion proved that while sublime skill and dogged determination are both prerequisites for victory, ruthlessness Björn is not. Described by those who knew him as a true gentleman (and sometimes as a teddy bear), the late Björn Waldegård won the inaugural World Rally Drivers’ Championship in 1979 (prior to that, the competition had Waldegård been held for two years as an FIA ‘Cup for Drivers’, won by Sandro Munari in 1977 and Markku Alén in 1978). All through that season, Waldegård battled Hannu Mikkola, his team-mate not just at Ford in the pace-setting Escort RS but also at Mercedes-Benz. The German company had 1979 hired the duo to pilot the powerful if unwieldy 5.0-litre V8 automatic 450SLC Coupé on the Safari and Ivory Coast events.

Hyundai Motorsport will be looking to make up ground on the Tour de Corse following a trying event last time out in Mexico, where Thierry claimed fourth and Dani and Andreas both challenged for the lead early on before finishing in ninth and 11th respectively. These were not the results that we are in the WRC to achieve, but we cannot be frustrated or disappointed. The situation is what it is. We’ve taken the lessons on board and worked as hard as we always do to make improvements. Our Rally México participation was affected from the first day and after that we aimed for damage limitation. As it is Thierry is still challenging the leaders in the Drivers’ Championship and the team remains in a strong position in the Manufacturers’ standings. Therefore, we will stay focused and pursue our work with diligence in Corsica. This is an event of course where all three of our drivers for this rally – Thierry, Dani and Sébastien – have reached the top step of the podium. In fact, Seb has tasted victory here on four successive occasions. The crews’ previous achievements should help to lift the whole team as we strive to overcome the disappointments of Mexico and make up ground in the title race.

• Che Guevara Energy Drink Tour De Corse This Event Conjures
The Loudon-clear guide to… Che Guevara Energy Drink Tour de Corse This event conjures so many evocative and emotional memories: a Bernard Darniche-driven Lancia Stratos, incredible French dominance, Petter Solberg’s unforgettable zero to hero fightback win in 2003 and, of course, Sébastien Loeb’s perfect rally to win every single stage two years later. The Tour de Corse is a special rally with a special place in the history of the World Rally Championship. And the good news is that this week’s event goes a long way to really recreating what the original events were all about; this week is a real tour of Corsica including mileage from top to bottom of this beautiful island. Granted, a round-island itinerary sets France’s round of the championship aside from its fellow WRC qualifiers, but it’s great to have a bit of variety, not to mention a huge challenge to the crews competing. And, for the first time, I’m delighted to say that includes me. I’m co-driving Mohamed Al Mutawaa in an Abu Dhabi Racing Citroën DS 3 R3T. We tested together for the first time in France last week and everything went well – it’s fair to say we’re both very excited about getting into those 10,000 corners. One thing everybody’s hoping for this week is good weather; you really had to feel for the organisers last year, with so much rain falling in the run-up to the rally. This time we’ve enjoyed sunshine during the recce, but as the rally approaches there are some clouds gathering over the mountains… The rally ahead… FIA World Rally Championship round 10/14 WRC – WRC2

PRESS KIT ALPINE January 19, 2013 INTRODUCTION Some car manufacturers are immortal, whatever their changing fortunes. Rolls Royce or Bugatti, for example, or Aston Martin or Maserati. Alpine is just such a marque. For almost 60 years and three generations of motorists, climbing behind the wheel of an Alpine has produced an intense and rare sense of joy.
