The European railways upgraded for international travel. Germany built the VT 11.5 diesel multiple unit, Italy its "Mediolanum", also a diesel multiple unit, and Switzerland also built two of these multiple units for international traffic. But it soon became clear that an electric train would be the better solution. Just, the countries around Switzerland had different power systems. The solution was found. It had to be a multiple unit train, and it had to be able to drive on all electrically powered lines. This is how the RAe-TEE railcar came into being, a vehicle that could run under various power systems and that could stop at the border stations by simply switching to Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Holland and Luxembourg. The first of these multiple units came on the rails in 1961 as a 5-part luxury train. The middle car with the electrical equipment, in the middle a luxurious dining car with, for that time, new, free seating and a bar counter, a driver's cab at both ends, this was shown by the train, which ran quietly thanks to the electric drive. The RAe-TEE immediately entered international traffic. He ran with a 4-day circulation - As TEE "Gottardo" from Zurich to Milano - As TEE "Cisalpin" from Milano to Paris - As a TEE "Cisalpin" back from Paris to Milano - As TEE "Ticino" from Milano to Zurich And this, unique at the time, without stopping at the national borders. It soon became apparent that the train's capacity was tight. Another train was built and the previous 5-car units were extended by one car. The train route was extended by the morning train from Basel via Zurich to Milano and at times it was extended in Italy from Milano to Genova. A further change in usage took place after the cancellation of the "Ticino" and the "Cisalpin" by using the vehicles as "Edelweiss" from Zurich to Amsterdam and as "Iris" from Zurich to Brussels. But the time of the big Trans-Europ trains was slowly over in the late 1970s. The fact that there were only 1st class cars in TEE traffic led to the end of the era. New products were the EC, the Euro City trains with a high standard, and with 1st and 2nd class coaches. However, the fact that the previous RAe-TEE were very popular and could be used internationally led to the decision to convert these vehicles. 2 cars were also given luxurious 2nd class seating, the cream / red paint was converted to gray and the vehicles were renamed RABe-EC. Very soon the trains, now in gray, were given the nickname "Gray Mouse". The train was still seen as a “gray mouse” on the Gotthard. Every day he continued to travel between Zurich and Milano as EC "Gottardo". Only then it soon no longer met the high demand for places in Euro City traffic. Quieter days began after the train was replaced by locomotive-covered trains. As a last assignment, the "gray mouse" was still to be found as a feeder to the TGV from Bern to the French border to Frasne and as a feeder for Swissair from Basel to Zurich. The Swiss Federal Railways decided to receive one of the 5 vehicles for posterity. This is how the TEE train RAe_TEE_1153, which is now back in TEE colors and partially dismantled inside, was created. It is used by SBB Historic as a museum vehicle for company trips and for occasional nostalgia trips. In very rare cases you could see both vehicles together, namely during the renovation period, when the first conversions were completed and the last ones were not yet completed. This package offers you these options. As ready-to-run versions in the scenarios, the train is included as a 6-part composition, just as it did in its prime. Front, south side, wagon 6, rear, north side, wagon 1. If you like to put together trains yourself, you can also create a 5-part version, because the train consists of individual vehicles. The operation of the trains The functions are based on the “Gotthard Panorama-Express” basic package from Simtrain.ch and largely correspond to those of the Re 460. The operator's cab can be operated using the mouse on the animated switches and keyboard, as well as the interface (F4) of the simulator. Here are the most important control elements and their operation via the keyboard: Commissioning the vehicle: Turn on the key switch K Turn on control power N Pantograph up P Main switch on M Headlights on H Reverse switch forward W Then release the brake and drive. With the RAe / RABe, the travel switch is combined for travel and for electric / dynamic brakes. Idling is in the middle position, lever to the front brings acceleration, lifting to the rear brings electric braking. Register door operation / stop For train stops with a change of passengers, proceed as follows: Stop register T Doors open on the left U Doors open on the right O Close doors L After closing the door, wait until the doors are closed, which takes a few seconds. Then you can continue. In contrast to the standard tasks of the train simulator, doors in the Gotthard Panorama Express do not open automatically. Nevertheless, T must be pressed at every stop so that the stop is registered as having occurred. Page 5 TEE Railcar and EC „Gray Mouse“ on the Gotthard Cab exchange: The train can run in double traction, it is designed for this and was also used very often over the Gotthard route. With double traction you can switch to all 4 cabins. Make sure that you switch off the active driver's cab before changing the cab, then change it and put everything back into operation in the new one. SIFA (driver's safety device) / train protection When SIFA is active, as is the rule when driving, the train driver must confirm his vigilance, by acknowledging the SIFA alarm Key Q SIFA can be switched off for trips with the Train Simulator. To do this, press CTRL + Enter (Num-Tastatur) Press this key combination the second time switch SIFA back on. After a SIFA emergency stop, the train must be stopped completely. Q key acknowledges the alarm, briefly brake the train and release it again, Reverse switch back to forward and then continue. Maneuvers / shunting, past closed signals / dwarf signals When driving “Free Driving” scenarios as well as in other tasks, you may have to pass signals that show a stop. In these cases, do the following: - Stop before signal / dwarf signal - When driving forward, press TAB to obtain permission to drive through - When driving backwards, press CTRL + TAB - If the message "Permission granted" comes up, press R and keep this maneuver button pressed until you have passed the signal In the settings of the Train Simulator you can, if desired, deactivate the entry for exiting when signals showing a stop are passed.
