REFORMATION SUNDAY - Red, associated with the power of the Holy Spirit, is the GOOD SHEPHERD LUTHERAN CHURCH liturgical color for commemorating this event in the history of the church. In our sanctuary 701 Iowa Avenue, Decorah, IA 52101 563-382-3963 it is evident in the gates in the weavings, the altar and pulpit paraments, Pastor Amy's [email protected] goodshepherddecorah.org stole, and the altar candles. The white roses near the altar remind us of Luther's Rose, the flower at the center of 's Seal - the family crest which became the crest and symbol of worldwide. Thanks to our special guests today who will help us understand the Reformation. We will also mark the occasion with a special Katie's Table celebration. This will be a hearty fellowship hour with food from Martin and Katie Luther's table.

THE FALL PLEDGE DRIVE - All members and friends of Good Shepherd are invited to make an intentional financial commitment, a pledge, for 2017. Pledging helps us grow in faith as we commit to trusting that God will provide for us. Our goal is to have 84 pledges from members and friends for 2017.

PRAYERS FOR HEALING AND HOPE, NOVEMBER 1, 7:00pm On All Saint’s Day, and one week before the national election, we will gather for a contemplative worship service to pray for healing and hope for individuals, the Decorah community and our nation. We will remember saints who have gone before us, share scripture, light candles amidst the darkness and join our voices in song and prayer. We will include prayers for all affected by flooding and natural disasters. Good Shepherd Music Director Brooke Joyce, Pastor Amy Larson and Liz Rog will provide leadership for the service. The larger Decorah community has been invited.

ALL SAINTS SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 6. We will light candles to remember those from our congregation who have died as well as new life born among us in the past year. There will also be an opportunity to light candles for others we remember on this day. Our bulletin cover will include the names of all those we remember within and beyond our congregation. Please sign their names on the sheet located by the guest book at the front entrance.

THE WELCA SOUP LUNCHEON AND COUNTRY STORE will be held Sunday, November 6, 10:30 - 1:30p.m. We are looking for good soups and bars for the luncheon and attic treasures and baked goods for our country store. Please have your attic treasures and baked good pre-priced on Saturday if possible. Sign-up sheets are available on the table in the Narthex.

ORIGINAL BAPTISMAL FONT - The original baptismal font constructed when Good Shepherd was established has been restored by Mike Cornelius of The Restoration Station and placed in the Fellowship Hall. Made from fir, it has been stained to complement the walnut cross which originally hung at the front of the sanctuary before the Eckheart paintings were installed. Both pieces are considered artifacts which showcase the history of the Good Shepherd congregation. The cross and font appear in the sanctuary in early confirmation photos which hang in the metal wall-mounted frames outside the church offices.

ELECTION DAY COMMUNION - This November 8, join people of faith across our community for an ecumenical and nonpartisan service of scripture, prayer, and communion as we celebrate our unity in the body of Christ. This brief communion service will take place at 12:00 p.m. in the sanctuary at First Lutheran Church (604 W. Broadway, Decorah). All are welcome!

FEEDBACK REQUEST - During November, the Executive Committee will be having conversations with each of our staff: pastor, music director, administrative assistant, and custodian. We welcome and encourage any input. Please share with me by email ([email protected]) or phone (382-3898), or with Drew Duffy, John Moeller, or Jeri Laursen.
