2012 U.S. market versus Asian market for VW Group and Skoda Auto expansion opportunities Pavla Kralova Professor: Vaclav Chvalovsky 12/3/2012 University of New York in Prague European Business Administration U.S. market versus Asian market for VW Group and Skoda Auto expansion opportunities Pavla Kralova . Year: 2012-13 Mentor: Vaclav Chvalovsky Acknowledgements I would like to acknowledge the support I have received throughout my studies at UNYP, not least from professors, faculty members, and for the patience and understanding of my family. This was invaluable in helping me progress through the studies. Abstract U.S. market versus Asian market for VW Group and Skoda Auto expansion opportunities This study examines the Volkswagen Group and Skoda Auto‘s expansion opportunities in the U.S. and Asian markets, by first taking a detailed look at the U.S. auto industry and it’s history, and in particular Detroit‘s Big Three, namely the Ford Motor Company, General Motors Corporation (GM) and Chrysler LLC. The study then looks at some of the defining moments and turning points of the U.S. auto industry through the 20th century, the impact of modern technologies, shifts in consumer taste and the current U.S. consumer profile. The following chapters then make a historical overview of the Volkswagen group and the Toyota Motor Corporation, being the current leader in a global car industry, and Volkswagen’s principal competitor. The study then continues with an overview of the auto industry in the BRIC countries, in particular focussing on China , India and Russia, while deliberately omitting Brazil as a separate study of Latin America was not in scope.

Price development in Germany 30 Volkswagen Beetle – the sound, the humor, the smell, the feel, the maneuverability, the image The Sound. The typical sound of a Beetle. People of the Beetle Generation sit up and take notice when they hear it today. They are strangely touched, experience melancholy, as though remembering something long since lost. It is a sound as unmistakable as the Beetle's silhouette: it buzzes, it putters - all against a background of soothing fan noises – a feeling of euphoria which has underscored our mobility for decades and which was the accompaniment for our independence and for growing prosperity during those years. Beginning in the late 1940's and continuing into the early 1980's, the unmistakable noise of the Beetle left its mark on the sound backdrop of German streets. And in other places, as well, the air-cooled Beetle Boxer was the lead instrument in the noisy traffic concert. This is why Volkswagen advertising from the Doyle Dane Bernbach (DDB) agency at the end of the 1960's, advertising that is already legendary today, was titled „What the world loves about Germany"; it included a colorfully mixed collection of pictures: Heidelberg, a cuckoo clock, sauerkraut with dumplings, Goethe, a dachshund, the Lorelei – and a Beetle.

NUDNIK Forgetting Josef Ganz Rémy Markowitsch Maikäfer (From the Photo Archive of Josef Ganz, 1930-1933) Rémy Markowitsch Nudnik: Forgetting Josef Ganz Combining sculptural and multimedia works and archival ma- terials, the spatially expansive installation Nudnik: Forgetting Josef Ganz by Swiss artist Rémy Markowitsch deals with the Jewish engineer and journalist Josef Ganz. The artist presented his works in a cabinet space with two connecting corridors at the 2016 exhibition Wolfsburg Unlimited: A City as World La- boratory, the first show curated by Ralf Beil at Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg. The work consists not just of an aesthetic transfe- rence of Ganz’s photographic negatives and written documents to a presentation of large prints or as a video, but by way of the artist’s associative approach represents, as it were, the transil- lumination and “defoliation” of the history of a major figure in the automobile industry of the twentieth century, a figure ba- rely known until now. The processes of defoliation and transillumination, ex- posing hidden narratives, (material) conditions, and webs of relations, are defining aspects of Rémy Markowitsch’ s artistic approach. Driven in his work by certain stories, biographies, and literatures, since 1993 the artist has revealed the results of his research in photographic transilluminations. Just as the term from the realm of radiology describes, the relevant motif is penetrated, x-rayed, and superimposed with a different mo- tif. At the very moment when the photographic images shift from an opaque to a lucid state, they overlap one another. In Moving Forward so doing, the support material moves to the foreground, mat- rix dots become visible as grains and the representation is no longer focused on the act of illustration, but encourages simul- taneous examination.
