GEORG MUCHE VITA O Georg Muche Nacque in Sassonia Nel 1895 E Trascorse La Sua Adolescenza Nella Città Di Rhön GEORG MUCHE VITA o Georg Muche nacque in Sassonia nel 1895 e trascorse la sua adolescenza nella città di Rhön. o Nel 1913 intraprese i primi studi di pittura presso la “Scuola di Pittura e delle Arti Grafiche” di Monaco. Fu proprio a Monaco che egli subì le prime influenze dal gruppo Der Blaue Reiter, che lo portarono al suo primo periodo di ricerca verso una tendenza astratta. Recatosi a Berlino, entrò a contatto con il circolo " Der Sturm" di Herwarth Walden; quest’ultimo gli assicurò uno stipendio mensile valido per 5 anni in cambio di un numero fisso di dipinti. o Dal 1917 al 1918 partecipò alla guerra, quindi abbandonò l'insegnamento presso la scuola Der Sturm. o Nel 1919 Gropius lo invitò ad unirsi alla Bauhaus; solo dopo essere stato convinto da Lyonel Feininger, Gropius lo nominò "maestro della forma". All'interno della scuola Muche svolse il compito di responsabile del laboratorio di tessitura. Durante il corso triennale, gli studenti studiavano simultaneamente sotto la guida di due maestri: un maestro artigiano e un maestro di disegno. Disse Gropius:"Quest'idea di partire con due differenti gruppi di insegnanti fu una necessità, perché non era possibile trovare né artisti in possesso di sufficienti conoscenze tecniche, né artigiani dotati di sufficiente immaginazione per i problemi artistici, da mettere a capo dei laboratori." Muche era un maestro artigiano, che seguiva passo passò le sue allieve durante il lavoro, ma concedeva anche largo spazio alla loro creatività. La presenza di Muche fu determinante per l'attuazione della prima mostra della scuola nel 1923, per la quale egli progettò la Haus am Horn. o Dal 1921 abbandonò l'astrazione per una nuova figurazione. o Nel 1927 tornò a Berlino per insegnare alla scuola d'arte di J. Itten. o Nel 1933 le sue opere furono condannate dal regime nazista, tanto che venne incluso nella lista degli "artisti degenerati"(tredici dei suoi quadri furono infatti rimossi dai musei durante quel periodo). o Ritornò poi all'interesse per la tessitura e negli ultimi anni di vita produsse altre stampe con nuove tecniche. o L'ultima fase del suo lavoro vide un ritorno all'astrazione. Curiosità o Itten e Muche introducono la dottrina esoterica di Mazdaznan al Bauhaus.Da tempo Itten s’era avvicinato alla singolare branca teosofica del Mazdaznan. Nell’estate del 1921 ne introdusse le idee al Bauhaus: vi aderì una piccola comunità di studenti, per i quali la mensa cominciò a sfornare cibi vegetariani. La dottrina di Mazdaznan era stata concepita da un polacco a fine Ottocento; dottrina eclettica in cui confluivano mitologie orientali e che mirava a uno stile di vita salutista fondato su vegetarianesimo e movimento controllato. o Si racconta che nel 1917 durante la guerra, fu colpito da un'esplosione che lo lasciò incosciente durante la notte. Quando si svegliò all'alba, tutto quello che poteva vedere era una bandiera stracciata con una mano al centro. Allungò la mano per afferrare la mano di Fatima (dalla bandiera del Nord Africa) e la tirò verso di sé mentre giaceva ferito a terra. Infatti ha incorporato la mano in molte delle sue opere 1919-21.     Georg Muche Biografie 1895 Georg Muche wird am 8. Mai als Sohn eines Beamten in Querfurt geboren. Er verbringt Kindheit und Jugend in der Rhön. 1913 Studium der Malerei an der Azbé-Schule in München, das er nach einem Jahr aufgibt und nach Berlin geht. Lernt Arbeiten von Wassily Kandisky kennen. Im Spätsommer 1913 besuchte ich in München das Atelier, in dem Kandinsky und Jawlensky vor Jahren Malen gelernt hatten. Ich musste dort in der Art von Wilhelm Leibl Köpfe und Akte mit Glanzlichtern auf der Nasenspitze zeichnen und mein Handwerk gründlich erlernen…So jung am Jahren war ich aufgebrochen und kam doch zu spät. Eine Besucherin der Ausstellung („Der blaue Reiter“) muss das Staunen beobachtet haben, mit dem meine Augen auf den Bildern verweilten. Es war Marianne von Werefkin. Sie machte mich aufmerksam auf Jawlensky und Kandinsky, die im Hintergrund miteinander sprachen...Sie hatten die neue Welt entdeckt! Ich erkannte zugleich, dass ich in abstrakten Gefilden nicht suchen durfte, wenn ich Entdeckungen machen wollte. 1915 Zusammenarbeit mit Herwarth Walden im „Sturm“. Ein Jahr später erste Ausstellung in der „Sturm“-Galerie mit Max Ernst, später weitere Ausstellungen mit Alexander Archipenko und Paul Klee. Muche wird wegen seiner außergewöhnlichen Fähigkeiten Lehrer an der „Sturm“- Kunstschule. Theodor Däubler schilderte jene Bilder in seinen Kritiken: „Die geometrisch unbeweglichen Bilder des jungen Georg Muche erinnern an Maschinen im weißglühenden und rotglühenden Zustand…Nicht Vorgänge unter Menschen beschäftigen seine Einbildungskraft, sondern eine Art übersinnlicher Dimension, ein Wissen um Raumbedingtheiten, damit Eruptionen von Leidenschaften in die Welt hereinbrechen können, oder er steigert den Zufall, dass eine Kugel in einem vom Rahmen eingeschlossenen Raum sich öffnet oder verschließt.

First they examine selected works by the two artists and investigate the effect and expression of colour and form. Then they produce their own interpretations using techniques of painting and collage. Step 1: The group examines paintings by Kandinsky and Klee. Participants describe what they see and what figures they can discover. There are no limits to the imagination here. Step 2: In the next step special attention is paid to colours, lines and basic geometrical forms. Which elements appear? How are they combined with one another? Can the paintings be completely reduced to geometrical forms (circles, triangles, squares and rectangles)? Step 3: Now colour copies of the paintings are distributed and the participants cut out the geometrical forms. They rearrange these to make their own collages, combining elements from different paintings and using coloured pencils and watercolours to create their own figures. Additional geometrical forms can be cut out of coloured paper and included in the collages. Step 4: Finally the pictures are displayed on the wall and viewed by the group.

The profile view shows a protruding brow, nose, and mouth, and the hair falls in heavy masses. • Auguste Rodin made this sculpture as part of a major commission for a monument to Balzac. Neither the head nor the body of Rodin’s sculpture conformed to critical or public expectations for a commemorative monument, including a realistic portrait likeness.     Bauhaus Houses and the Design Canon: 1923-2019 Jeremy Aynsley Introduction The focus of this paper is issues central to the reconstruction and display of iconic Modernist houses and how such issues complexify our understanding of the canonical reputation of the Bauhaus. Like the De Stijl movement, the Bauhaus can expect to receive much renewed media and scholarly attention as its centenary year of 2019 approaches. And like De Stijl, it holds pre-eminence in design history as a point when new theories and roles for design were realised by a remarkable set of actors. For its relatively short life of 14 years as a school in Germany, fol- lowed by the Chicago years, the Bauhaus has sustained what might be considered to be a disproportionate amount of attention. Indeed, arguably, its short life adds neatness to applying a narrative that suits re-telling and mythification. By applying the term ‘canon’ to design, we can assume this involves a select set of figures, objects and movements that claim official status, receiving scholarly atten- tion and entering museums and galleries. To do so, they conform to and meet certain criteria. As we know, critical theory, feminism, race theory and post-Marxism have all offered means of critique of the canon, questioning the basis on which it privileges certain histories – at worst, ‘dead white men’ or in the case of the Bauhaus, a site of high conservative modernism. Accordingly, in recent years, revisions in Bauhaus scholarship have also taken place, whether through questioning gender relations and roles at the school, challenging fundamental principles such as functionalism and universalism, or considering its diaspora of influence in a post-colonial context.1 Before turning to the houses of my focus today, it is perhaps worth teasing out the structures that have been central for the construction of the Bauhaus within the design historical canon: 1 Examples include Philipp Ostwalt (ed.), Bauhaus Conficts, 1919-2009: Controversies and Counterparts, Ostfildern (Hatje Cantz) 2009 and Bauhaus.

    WORLD HERITACE LIST The Bauhaus No 729 Identification Nomination The Bauhaus and its Sites in Weimar and oessau Location The Free State of Thuringia, Federal State of saxony-Anhalt state Party Federal Republic of Germany Date 11 October 1994 Justification by State Party As the first sites of a cultural development within Modernism, which was to have worldwide influence in the visual arts, applied art, architecture, and urban planning, the buildings of the former Art School and of the Applied Art School in Weimar deserve the highest possible ranking from the point of view of preserving historic monuments for both their historical value and their artistic value because of the murals. They have additional relevance as original architectural achievements bY Henry van de velde, which in some respects may be considered to be precursors of Modernism. The Haus am Horn is worthy of the highest evaluation from the historical and artistic points of view as the only surviving architectural Bauhaus structure in Weimar and as the first practical architectural statement of this educational institution, and also as an experimental structure of the New Building Style <Neues Bauem for a planned ·sauhaus settlement" <which was largely realized in Dessau>. The Haus am Horn is unusual as an experimental building that continues to serve fully functionally in accordance with its original purpose. Since it has been almost entirely preserved in material terms it has a very high degree of authenticitY. lt embodies the original concept of the single-family house and is a monument to experimentation with modern building technologies <concrete block construction>.

    Aspects of Inner Emigration in Hannah Höch 1933 – 1945 Monika Wenke, M.A.S. January 2010 This paper was submitted and accepted as dissertation in History of Art at the University of Cambridge to Prof. Francis Woodman, tutor Dr. Andrew Lacey, Institute for Continuing Education in January 2010. The Dissertation received a first class degree (75%). II Abstract The Third Reich is still a sore point in German history and in many areas it is still rarely dealt with. This also applies to many artists who did not flee Nazi Germany but are known as artists of the “inner emigration” such as the German artist Hannah Höch. The dissertation closes this gap in the reception of Hannah Höch by analyzing and reviewing this “dark period” from 1933 to 1945. In public perception the “inner emigration” of artists is a very controversial theme that went from total ignorance of the fact to denial and accusations of corruption to an idealization as the only true resistance. The essay illustrates Hannah Höch’s personal path into inner emigration and shows how she survived between opposition and conformity. Using public records in addition to diaries and personal statements, it clears up some common misconceptions.
