[email protected] Date: 27/02/2002 No. 24 - 2002 Elections at the XXVI Ordinary UEFA Congress Fourteen candidates for seven seats on UEFA's Executive Committee A total of 14 prominent football administrators have submitted their candidature for the UEFA Executive Committee. Seven seats are available, six of them for four-year terms and the last one for a two-year term. The closing date for applications was midnight 25 February 2002. The elections will take place at the XXVI Ordinary UEFA Congress, to be held in Stockholm, Sweden on 25th April 2002. Lennart Johansson was earlier confirmed as the sole nominee for the post of UEFA President. Des Casey (Republic of Ireland), Frantisek Chvalovsky (Czech Republic), and Claude Simonet (France) will retire from the UEFA Executive Committee. Four other members of the UEFA Executive Committee will stand for re-election: Senes Erzik (Turkey), Dr. Viacheslav Koloskov (Russia), Giangiorgio Spiess (Switzerland) and Angel Maria Villar Llona (Spain). The terms of office of four European members of the FIFA Executive Committee: Lennart Johansson (Sweden), Antonio Matarrese (Italy), Per Ravn Omdal (Norway) and David Will (Scotland) will end at the coming FIFA Congress. In the case of Lennart Johansson, once confirmed by the Congress as UEFA President for a new four-year term of office, he would automatically be reconfirmed as a FIFA Vice-President.
