SOUTH SCHOOL NYW 2012 EVENT DESCRIPTION Creating Our Voice will be a creative workshop for the group to find a collective expression of who they are, what they stand for and what they would like to change AltEd Program, Tasmanian about how other people view them. A similar project is being conducted for young Polytechnic people in the START program, and the two workshops will come together for a single conversation with multiple voices. The Long Lunch is now an institution at Claremont College and this year the Student Representative Council decided the NYW theme of Imagine. Create. Inspire. will be Claremont College put in action by organising an International Food Festival. The event will provide the opportunity for students to celebrate the multi-cultural nature of the college and raise awareness of inter-cultural understanding and tolerance. Young people will express their views in a debate on their education and future. Clarence High School There will also be live music performances and a morning tea . Dover District High School Students will work together to organise a camp program to Maria Island. The NYW Activities Day is being organised by the College Student Leadership Group Elizabeth College and will link in with the annual Harmony Day celebration. The day will be a celebration of cultures, with food, music, dance and storytelling. Geilston Bay High School Transport for students to attend NYW events. Activities Day with a focus on teambuilding with mentors, community workers and Geilston Bay High School students. Glenora’s Got Talent will provide a positive and safe environment for students to Glenora District High School showcase their abilities and talent in front of a wider community audience. The event will focus on ‘having a go’ and acknowledging the skills and efforts of everyone. Inspiring Aspiring Leaders will be a forum of student leaders from each of Hobart College’s associate high schools. The forum will be facilitated by the Hobart College Hobart College student leadership group and will discuss leadership and participation models, develop communication skills and build connections between the students. Grade 10 Peer Leaders will facilitate a fun and engaging workshop of team challenge Kingston High School activities. The workshop will allow the new Grade 7 students to share their concerns about high school and be supported by the Grade10 students. Activities Day with a focus on developing teamwork, leadership and cooperation. The Lauderdale Primary School day will help students from two schools develop relationships that will assist them in South Arm Primary School their transition from Primary to High school. The School Social will celebrate the establishment of BREATH Youth council at Oatlands District School. BREATH Youth Council empowers youth within the town, Oatlands District gives them a voice and encourages them to become active young citizens, whilst teaching practical skills such as event planning, grant writing and public speaking. The Student Representative Council will organise a Community Schools Social for Rokeby High students and local primary schools (Grade 6 students). The theme of Rokeby High School the social will be ‘Dress as your hero’, with students encouraged to dress up as their role models. Rose Bay High NYW Arts Competition, with visual arts, creative writing and Rose Bay High School technology (woodwork/metal work) categories. NYW Mosaic to Music will involve students working with a local artist to construct Sorell School wall panel mosaics and also perform music at a concert for the community. MY Voices will launch MYzine, Multicultural Youth Magazine, to spread ideas, celebrate achievements and share the experiences, benefits and potential of UTAS Student Services multicultural youth. MYzine will provide the opportunity for young pole to share their stories and cultures and create the opportunity for the wider community to learn about those in the community with diverse cultural backgrounds. NORTH SCHOOL NYW 2012 EVENT DESCRIPTION A NYW Concert and Activities Day will allow students to express their views, Deloraine High School opinions and creativity through musical and other performances. A BBQ will also be provided for students. Carnival in Col Lane, organised by the College Student Leadership Group, will be an Launceston College Activities Day for all students to participate in. Activities will include competitions, a talent show, entertainment and stalls for local service providers (health, mental health) The NYW Newstead College Health Expo 2012 is being organised and run by students. It will provide an opportunity for approximately 20 service providers, such as Family Planning, Red Cross, Sexual Health and Drug Education Network to meet Newstead College with students, who will be complete a variety of case studies and gathering information to help them cope with issues in their lives and establish links with their community support services. The Expo will have an anti-smoking theme and students will be advertising for participants to join the College QUIT program. At the Prospect NYW Display Day students will be encouraged to try something new. A variety of activities will be available for students to sign up for including; circus tricks, trick riding, skateboarding, street art, tennis, zumba, archery, croquet and bowls. Prospect High School Stalls will also be set for students to have a taste of their future, with professionals from many jobs there to answer student questions. The event will showcase student talents, including music, dance and art. A forum for students to voice their concerns on issues that affect them will also be held. A group of Grade 9 students will identify an issue they feel is important to them and their age group and work with a drama tutor to develop a performance that Queechy High School addresses the issue in a positive manner. The students will then perform their work in front of their year group and be encouraged to perform at a whole school assembly. Youth on Q will be an Activities Day for all students to showcase their skills and Queechy High School abilities, such as art, music and drama. A BBQ will be held on the day as well. Grade 10 students will organise the Star Social - a social for students of Star of the Star of the Sea Catholic Sea, who will be able to invite a friend from another George Town school, to College promote community. NORTH WEST SCHOOL NYW 2012 EVENT DESCRIPTION aFAIRgo will involve students organising a fair, with student-run stalls addressing issues Don College such as bullying, youth sexual health, mental health, breast cancer awareness and healthy food. Students will also provide live music and entertainment. The Inspirational OP Shop Fashion Catwalk will highlight the issue of consumer waste and its damaging effect on the environment - clothes are rarely worn out! The project will showcase to the community recycled clothes and inspire them to seek alternatives Don College when searching for ‘new’ clothes. Op shop clothing and pre-loved clothes will be provided at workshops for students to create unique garments to then model on the catwalk. Photography students will do a photo shoot, for publication and display at the school. The Great Escape NYW Challenge will involve the school captains and Student North West Christian School Representative Council organising an Activities D for students. Teams will make their own mascots and complete a variety of activities Launch of the Transition will be an Activities Day to launch the transition between primary and secondary school students. Grade 6 students from surrounding local Penguin High School schools will be invited to spend the day with high school students. The aim is for younger students to interact with older students to create friendships. There will be a BBQ lunch. Rosebery District High Transport for students to the Tasmanian NYW Launch Event: Youth Rocks the West School Coast. The WYN TV Webcast will prove students an opportunity to showcase their Wynyard High School thoughts, works and skills through an online performance. A BBQ to celebrate the success of the webcast will also be held. .
