Luigi Pirandello, Il fu Mattia Pascal Giorgio Bassani’s much-cited piece entitled Il giardino tradito – a firm prise de position against Vittorio De Sica’s adaptation of Il giardino dei Finzi Contini – has often obfuscated Bassani’s other reflections on the practice of cinematic adaptation. Bassani was neither dismissive of cin- ema as an art form nor fundamentally opposed to the transposition of novels into films. In fact, he displayed a keen and sustained interest in film, and collaborated in various ways with directors such as Mario Sol- dati, Michelangelo Antonioni, Alessandro Blasetti, Luigi Zampa, and Luchino Visconti 2. Author and co-author of «a dozen» of screenplays (some with Pier Paolo Pasolini), Bassani also wrote essays on film and film reviews 3. The Rhaeto-Romance Languages
Romance Linguistics Editorial Statement Routledge publish the Romance Linguistics series under the editorship of MartinS Harris (University of Essex) and Nigel Vincent (University of Manchester). Romance Philogy and General Linguistics have followed sometimes converging sometimes diverging paths over the last century and a half. With the present series we wish to recognise and promote the mutual interaction of the two disciplines. The focus is deliberately wide, seeking to encompass not only work in the phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, and lexis of the Romance languages, but also studies in the history of Romance linguistics and linguistic thought in the Romance cultural area. Some of the volumes will be devoted to particular aspects of individual languages, some will be comparative in nature; some will adopt a synchronic and some a diachronic slant; some will concentrate on linguistic structures, and some will investigate the sociocultural dimensions of language and language use in the Romance-speaking territories. Yet all will endorse the view that a General Linguistics that ignores the always rich and often unique data of Romance is as impoverished as a Romance Philogy that turns its back on the insights of linguistics theory. In 2016, the Presidio Trust celebrated the 50th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act alongside the nation’s preservation community with a sense of reflection, gratitude and forward-looking purpose. We were also pleased to commemorate the centennial anniversary of the National Park Service, and thank our partners for their trailblazing role in preserving American cultural heritage here in California and beyond. Our principal activity for recognizing these milestones was to host the 41st annual California Preservation Foundation conference at the Presidio in April. At the conference we were enormously proud to be recognized by CPF president Kelly Sutherlin McLeod as “perhaps the biggest preservation success story of the 20th century”, praise that would not be possible without the contributions of our partner agencies, tenants and park users. -
Il Castellet 'Italiano' La Porta Per La Nuova Letteratura Latinoamericana
Rassegna iberistica ISSN 2037-6588 Vol. 38 – Num. 104 – Dicembre 2015 Il Castellet ‘italiano’ La porta per la nuova letteratura latinoamericana Francesco Luti (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, España) Abstract This paper seeks to recall the ‘Italian route’ of the critic Josep Maria Castellet in the last century, a key figure in Spanish and Catalan literature. The Italian publishing and literary worlds served as a point of reference for Castellet, and also for his closest literary companions (José Agustín Goytisolo and Carlos Barral). All of these individuals formed part of the so-called Barcelona School. Over the course of at least two decades, these men managed to build and maintain a bridge to the main Italian publishing houses, thereby opening up new opportunities for Spanish literature during the Franco era. Thanks to these links, new Spanish names gained visibility even in the catalogues of Italian publishing houses. Looking at the period from the mid- 1950s to the end of the 1960s, the article focuses on the Italian contacts of Castellet as well as his publications in Italy. The study concludes with a comment on his Latin American connections, showing how this literary ‘bridge’ between Barcelona and Italy also contributed to exposing an Italian audience to the Latin American literary boom. ABSTRACT The aim of this thesis is to assess attitudes of speakers towards their local or regional variety. Research in the field of sociolinguistics has shown that factors such as gender, age, place of residence, and social status affect linguistic behaviour and perception of local and regional varieties. This thesis consists of three main parts. In the first part the concept of language, minority language, and dialect is discussed; in the second part the official position towards local or regional varieties in Europe and in Italy is considered; in the third part attitudes of speakers towards actions aimed at safeguarding their local or regional varieties are analyzed. The conclusion offers a comparison of the results of the surveys and a discussion on how things may develop in the future.
