Date: 19 June 2014 Maserati Centennial Exhibition Inaugurated In Modena New exhibition retraces a century of Maserati at the spectacular Enzo Ferrari Museum (MEF). The unique exhibition hosts a priceless collection of historic models and gives visitors the opportunity to relive the history of Maserati through technology that transports you to the heart of the event. A unique exhibition dedicated to the Centennial of Maserati was inaugurated in Modena this morning. MASERATI 100 - A Century of Pure Italian Luxury Sports Cars retraces the story of the Italian car manufacturer through an exhibition featuring some of the Trident marque’s most significant road and racing cars, plus a highly engaging show employing 19 projectors, enabling visitors to relive the most significant moments in the history of Maserati and to learn about the individuals who shaped its history. Staged in the futuristic Enzo Ferrari Museum, a stone's throw from the Maserati headquarters in Viale Ciro Menotti, the exhibition will run until January 2015. Considering the historic value of the models exhibited, this is the greatest exhibition of Maserati cars ever staged anywhere in the world. The inauguration of the new exhibition was attended by the CEO of Maserati, Harald Wester, and the Chairman of Ferrari, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo. They were joined by the cousins Carlo and Alfieri Maserati, sons, respectively, of Ettore and Ernesto Maserati, the two brothers who in 1914, together with Alfieri Maserati, founded the company that still bears their name today. The guest of honour at the inauguration was the legendary Sir Stirling Moss, the 1950s Maserati racing driver who scooped incredible victories for the Trident marque. -

TRIUMPH IN ITALY www.TriumphInItaly.it “Captains Courageous”: Salvatore Ruffino and his Italia By Giancarlo Cavallini (translation by Giovanni Uguccioni) This is the story of a courageous man that built a car of such a beauty to leave you breathless; it is a story that remember us that there are men with the courage to jump beyond the obstacles, capable to get passionate about a project, knowing that the business risk is always round the corner. It is also the history of a car that had not the fortune that her beautiful design would promise, but that is today among the most desirable cars. This man was Salvatore Ruffino, and his creature was “Italia 2000”. Salvatore Ruffino was born on April 19, 1913 in Carini, near Palermo and the blue sea of Sicily. He left Sicily after completing the high school to move to Rome, where he enrolled in the Guardia di Finanza (Financial Police) Academy. He successfully attended the Academy, graduating in 1932 as the younger “Brigadiere” (Sergeant major) in Italy. His first appointment was in Milano, were he took the opportunity to attend the faculty of Economy at the Bocconi University. He was then transferred to Gioiosa Marea, back in his Sicily. Two years later he was promoted Lieutenant and transferred to Paularo, in the North of Italy, were he serviced as commander of the Cason di Lanza garrison, at the border with Austria, that was at those times a smuggling area. From the sun and the sea of Sicily to the snow and mountains of the Alps: Salvatore later mentioned that during winter the snow was so much to make the entrance door unusable, and to exit the barracks they had to pass through the roof, and Paularo, the nearest village, could be reached only by skiing. -

FONDATORI : fratelli MASERATI. ALFIERI MASERATI : pilota automobilistico ed imprenditore italiano, fondatore della casa automobilistica MASERATI. Nasce a Voghera il 23/09/1887, è il quarto di sette fratelli, il primo Carlo trasmette la la passione per la meccanica ALFIERI, all'età di 12 anni già lavorava in una fabbrica di biciclette, nel 1902 riesce a farsi assumere a Milano dalla ISOTTA FRASCHINI, grazie all'aiuto del fratello Carlo. Alfieri grazie alle sue capacità fa carriera e alle mansioni più umili, riesce ad arrivare fino al reparto corse dell'azienda per poi assistere meccanicamente alla maccina vincente della Targa FLORIO del 1908, la ISOTTA lo manda come tecnico nella filiale argentina di Buenos Aires, poi spostarlo a Londra, e in Francia, infine nel 1914 decide, affiancato dai suoi fratelli. Ettore ed Ernesto, di fondare la MASERAT ALFIERI OFFICINE, pur rimanendo legato al marchio ISOTTA-FRASCHINI, di cui ne cura le vetture da competizione in seguito cura anche i propulsori DIATTO. Intanto però, in Italia scoppia la guerra e la sua attività viene bloccata. Alfieri Maserati, in questo periodo, progetta una candela di accensione per motori, con la quale nasce a Milano la Fabbrica CANDELE MASERATI infine progetta un prototipo con base telaio ISOTTA- FRASCHINI, ottenendo numerose vittorie, seguirà la collaborazione con la DIATTO, infine tra il 1925/26, mesce la mitica MASERATI TIPO 26, rivelandosi poi, un'automobile vincente. Il 1929 sarà l'anno della creazione di una 2 vettura la V43000, con oltre 300 CV, la quale raggiungerà i 246 Km/ h, oltre ad altre mitiche vittorie automobilistiche. -

Les hommes de Maserati Les sept frères Maserati naquirent à Voghera près de Pavie entre 1881 et 1898, mais le troisième, Alfieri, mourut en bas âge. Tous les autres s'impliquèrent dans l'industrie automobile sauf le cinquième, Mario, qui devint peintre mais créa quand même l'emblème de la firme Maserati, le trident, en s'inspirant de celui de la statue de Neptune située sur la place centrale de Bologne. Après la mort en course automobile de Carlo, l'aîné, c'est Alfieri, le quatrième, qui avait déjà la lourde responsabilité de porter le même prénom que son frère mort en bas âge, qui devint le leader de la fratrie et créa la marque Maserati, en 1914, à Bologne. L'entreprise se consacra au début à la fabrication de bougies d'allumage et à la préparation pour la course de voitures Isotta-Fraschini et Diatto. Sérieuse rivale des Bugatti, la première vraie Maserati, la tipo 26, sort en 1926 et remporte sa première course, la Targa Florio en Sicile, avec Alfieri Maserati en personne à son volant. Son moteur est un 8 cylindres en ligne de 1500 cc avec double arbre à cames en tête et compresseur délivrant 120 cv à 5300 tr/mn. Maasmeier: My partners Matthias Hinz and Lukas Mühlemann are passionate classic car lovers – just like me. We have been collecting classic cars for decades. This passion for classic cars has brought us together, regardless of national borders. We have long been looking for the perfect restoration, but our expectations remained unfulfilled. Eventually, we decided to take matters into our own hands and founded SCUDERIA AZZURRA. We are offering classic Maserati, Alfa Romeo and Lancia on the international market. All cars have been restored in top condition exclusively by us in our own workshop. Using original components, we restore the cars completely, from car body, engine and gearboxes to technology. When did you fall for classic automobiles? Was there a key experience in your childhood/youth that turned you into a classic car lover? Hinz: I bought my first classic car, then a rather modern classic, at the age of 18. It was a 1968 VW Beetle Convertible. With the help of an alleged expert, I gained a first insight into car restoration. I discovered my passion for Italian sports cars in the early 90s. I read an article on a Lancia Flaminia Touring Coupé in a magazine for classic cars and it was love at first sight. I was so excited that I took the next opportunity and bought one in the US, without even looking at it beforehand. Maasmeier: My father was a true sports car fan and owned a Jaguar. -
