SIATA Daina “Gran Sport” SL*0203* Stabilimenti Farina #9683 (Historical Compilation and Presentation by John De Boer)
SIATA Daina “Gran Sport” SL*0203* Stabilimenti Farina #9683 (historical compilation and presentation by John de Boer) Perhaps the first “Gran Sport”? ** August, 1951 Purchased by Hector S. Scheffer (Illinois), evidently with the idea of becoming a dealer/agent. His advertisement translated the model name to “Grand Sports Roadster” The designation from SIATA would have been “spider Gran Sport”. This advertisement appeared on the rear cover of the Elkhart Lake race program for August 26, 1951 Hector Scheffer was also responsible for printing the race program. The car appeared at Elkhart and was photographed in color. Photo courtesy of Yellowstone SCCA Scheffer also entered and raced at Watkins Glen in September Tony Pompeo entered the car in October at the Convair Trophy Races at Allentown, Pennsylvania I don’t know if he raced it himself. This may be Scheffer at the wheel once again? The image I have that shows the same car is not one I feel can be published without permission not yet received. Unlike many later Gran Sport examples, this car used standard Fiat 1400 wheels with 14-inch Pirelli tires. There was another Gran Sport that featured a similar windscreen, but it is clearly a later car. ** When I indicate that this car may be the “first Gran Sport”, I have to acknowledge that I do not know what form the original body on SL*0201*S had. That car exists today as a coupe from about 1953/54 that may be by Vignale. There are other chassis numbers that are completely undescribed as well. Pompeo (“PAVIA” = Pompeo and Valenzano Italian Automobiles) and John Edgar teamed up to advertise in Road & Track magazine with an image of this car as part of the promotion. -

“Captains Courageous”: Salvatore Ruffino and His Italia
TRIUMPH IN ITALY www.TriumphInItaly.it “Captains Courageous”: Salvatore Ruffino and his Italia By Giancarlo Cavallini (translation by Giovanni Uguccioni) This is the story of a courageous man that built a car of such a beauty to leave you breathless; it is a story that remember us that there are men with the courage to jump beyond the obstacles, capable to get passionate about a project, knowing that the business risk is always round the corner. It is also the history of a car that had not the fortune that her beautiful design would promise, but that is today among the most desirable cars. This man was Salvatore Ruffino, and his creature was “Italia 2000”. Salvatore Ruffino was born on April 19, 1913 in Carini, near Palermo and the blue sea of Sicily. He left Sicily after completing the high school to move to Rome, where he enrolled in the Guardia di Finanza (Financial Police) Academy. He successfully attended the Academy, graduating in 1932 as the younger “Brigadiere” (Sergeant major) in Italy. His first appointment was in Milano, were he took the opportunity to attend the faculty of Economy at the Bocconi University. He was then transferred to Gioiosa Marea, back in his Sicily. Two years later he was promoted Lieutenant and transferred to Paularo, in the North of Italy, were he serviced as commander of the Cason di Lanza garrison, at the border with Austria, that was at those times a smuggling area. From the sun and the sea of Sicily to the snow and mountains of the Alps: Salvatore later mentioned that during winter the snow was so much to make the entrance door unusable, and to exit the barracks they had to pass through the roof, and Paularo, the nearest village, could be reached only by skiing. -

Aluminium Alloys Chemical Composition Pdf
Aluminium alloys chemical composition pdf Continue Alloy in which aluminum is the predominant lye frame of aluminum welded aluminium alloy, manufactured in 1990. Aluminum alloys (or aluminium alloys; see spelling differences) are alloys in which aluminium (Al) is the predominant metal. Typical alloy elements are copper, magnesium, manganese, silicon, tin and zinc. There are two main classifications, namely casting alloys and forged alloys, both further subdivided into heat-treatable and heat-free categories. Approximately 85% of aluminium is used for forged products, e.g. laminated plates, foils and extrusions. Aluminum cast alloys produce cost-effective products due to their low melting point, although they generally have lower tensile strength than forged alloys. The most important cast aluminium alloy system is Al–Si, where high silicon levels (4.0–13%) contributes to giving good casting features. Aluminum alloys are widely used in engineering structures and components where a low weight or corrosion resistance is required. [1] Alloys composed mostly of aluminium have been very important in aerospace production since the introduction of metal leather aircraft. Aluminum-magnesium alloys are both lighter than other aluminium alloys and much less flammable than other alloys containing a very high percentage of magnesium. [2] Aluminum alloy surfaces will develop a white layer, protective of aluminum oxide, if not protected by proper anodization and/or dyeing procedures. In a wet environment, galvanic corrosion can occur when an aluminum alloy is placed in electrical contact with other metals with a more positive corrosion potential than aluminum, and an electrolyte is present that allows the exchange of ions. -
