CALENDARIO 2019 CALENDARIO2019 I Gruppi di Volontariato Vincenziano, formati da volontari laici cattolici, di- scendono direttamente dalle Dame che San Vincenzo organizzò e che il Ve- scovo di Lione riconobbe nel 1617. Siamo 860 gruppi presenti in quasi tutte le regioni Italiane (Abruzzo, Basilicata, Campania, Emilia Romagna, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lazio, Liguria, Lombardia, Marche, Molise, Piemonte, Puglia, Sardegna, Sicilia, Toscana, Trentino Alto Adige, Umbria e Veneto). Facciamo parte della grande Famiglia Vincenziana che comprende, tra gli altri i Padri della Missio- ne e le Figlie della Carità, voluti da San Vincenzo stesso e altre associazioni di consacrati e laici nate anche in seguito, come per esempio le Conferenze fon- date da Federico Ozanam. I nostri servizi sono molteplici ma partono tutti dall’incontro personale con i poveri in difficoltà nel loro ambiente di vita, rispondiamo con interventi imme- diati quando si manifestano bisogni urgenti, ma siamo in grado di organizza- re azioni a lungo termine, anche collaborando con organismi pubblici e privati. Poiché al centro del nostro impegno è la persona, nella sua complessità e totalità, non ci limitiamo ad un solo servizio ma ope- riamo in una vasta gamma di settori, dai centri di ascolto alle visite domiciliari, dalle mense ai servizi doccia, alle case di accoglienza, a servizi socio/sanitari, ad attività indiriz- zate ai meno giovani, a servizi per mi- nori come asili, distribuzioni apposite di alimenti, doposcuola e sostegno. Per svolgere al meglio i compiti che ci siamo proposti partecipia- mo ai lavori di numerosi organismi nazionali ed internazionali (Oss. Nazionale del Volontariato, Con- Vol, Mo.Vi., Consulte nazionale, regionali e cittadini, gruppi di studio degli organismi ecclesiali (CEI, Cari- tas, Cnal). Sono in molti coloro che pretendono di dettare il data setting dei nostri gior- ni, ma a noi piace scandire i nostri giorni sul tempo della Chiesa, sulle feste del Calendario Liturgico, momenti di preghiera e di ascolto della parola di Dio, oc- casioni per rinsaldare i vincoli propri del popolo di Dio che vive nella storia. Abbiamo voluto non trascurare i nostri Santi, le nostre memorie, quelle che ci aiutano nella nostra identità di vincenziani, di persone che si sono liberamen- te impegnate ai compiti di servizio e di lavoro personale e comunitario, accom- pagnati dalla riflessione, dall’approfondimento, dalla ricerca. A tutti auguriamo un anno di pace e di serenità, 365 giorni di attenzione e di impegno verso i più umili, verso i più bisognosi, verso chi ancora non ci co- nosce e ci avversa. Non vi nascondo di averci pensato per molto tempo, dubbioso, circa i tanti aspetti su cui avrei dovuto soffermarmi e una delle domande che mi sono subito posto è stata: ma oltre alla figura di padre modello che io conoscevo, cos'altro conosco della vita di mio padre? E qui ho avuto delle perplessità ..... sì dico perplessità perché tutti i padri presumo hanno un determinato comportamento con i figli, dettato dal ruolo, c'è chi lo fà con più severità e chi meno, chi è pedante e chi meno, chi è accondiscendente e chi meno e via dicendo ma sicuramente tutti si apprestano a svolgere questo compito basilare con uno sconfinato e immenso amore !!! Ma un padre oltre a questo è anche un “uomo”ed è proprio il profilo umano, di uomo tra gli uomini, che mi ha portato ad iniziare questo lavoro, oserei dire di ricerca, esegetico, di tutti gli scritti e archiviazioni varie che con pazienza e passione certosina egli aveva iniziato ed implementato nei vari anni della sua vita. Ho avuto la fortuna di crescere in una famiglia molto unita, sotto tutti gli aspetti. Mio padre apparteneva a quelle belle famiglie di una volta, numerose: erano otto figli, madre, padre e “zizì” a carico (una zia di mia padre, sorella minore di mia nonna, la quale viveva sotto lo stesso tetto a causa di lievi problemi invalidanti) e come tradizione comanda, tutti i figli maschi e dico tutti nessuno escluso, hanno ereditato dal padre l'arte della lavorazione del legno.

Crocifisso di San Marcello a Roma, one of the most prominent lay religious associations in sixteenth- century Italy. Divided into four main chapters, the dissertation first develops the innovative theory of conspicuous devotion through a documented examination of the company’s religious rituals and urban processions during the Catholic Reformation. The following chapters apply the theory to analyses of the confraternity’s commissions in the Cappella del Crocifisso in San Marcello and the nearby Oratorio del Crocifisso, in which Perino del Vaga (1501–47), Daniele da Volterra (1509–66), Giovanni de’ Vecchi (ca. 1536–1615), Cesare Nebbia (ca. 1536–1614), and Niccolò Circignani (ca. 1517/24–after 1596) painted. Challenging traditional interpretations of Central Italian painting from 1520 to 1590, the object-focused project argues that conspicuous meaning and form served conspicuous devotion to both instruct and inspire, in accordance with the reforms of the Catholic Church.

Box 1346 Ann Arbor, Ml 48106-1346 Abstract This thesis studies sailors who worked onboard British and North American slave ships between 1750 and 1808. Its starting point is the discrepancy between maritime historiography and that of the slave trade: in the former seamen appear as radical, anti-authoritarian figures who were far more accepting of black men and women than other occupational groups in this era. In slave trade literature, by contrast, sailors appear as shadowy figures ready to do the captain’s bidding, which generally meant abusing, maltreating and assaulting men and women of African origin. Through detailed analysis of the lives and working conditions of those who were lowly employees in the slave trade, it is possible to see that the much-vaunted radicalism of seamen as a group grew at least in part from their work onboard ‘guinea ships’.
