La-Mia-Fede-Nei-Santi-Di-Ogni-Giorno

The Shroud of Turin and Related Objects – an Overview
The Shroud of Turin and Related Objects – An Overview It is amazing but true that there are many Personal Effects of Jesus of Nazareth that may still exist in the world, attesting to the existence of Jesus in history. This exhibit presents these Personal Effects, as seen by modern scientists and researchers for the benefit of the general public, inspired by the magnificent plates below from Memoire Sur Les Instruments de la Passion, by Charles Rohault DeFleury, published in 1870, and building upon his research. Personal Effects of the House of David St. Anne – the Mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of Jesus The significance of St. Anne is that conceived the mother of Jesus immaculately. This was confirmed by the private apparitions at Rue de Bac, with the Miraculous Medal, and especially at Lourdes, France, in 1858, four years after Pope Pius IX had formerly declared the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception. The Relics of St. Anne in Apt The Relics of St. Anne at St. Anne De Auray The Relics of St. Anne in Beaupre, Canada The Relics of St. Anne in Cairo, New York Relic of St. Anne in Sturbridge, Massachusetts Relic of St. Anne at Jean Baptiste, Manhattan Relic of St. Anne at St. Adalbart Church, Staten Island, New York Relic of St. Anne in Waterbury, Connecticut Relic of St. Anne in Chicopee, Massachusetts Relic of St. Anne Church in Jerusalem at Fall River, Massachusetts Relics of St. Joachim Relics of Elizabeth, Zechariah and John the Baptist Relics of St. Joseph To our awareness, no one knows where Joseph, the putative father of Jesus is actually buried, and much about him, is legendary in nature. -

On the Edge of a New Frontier By Matthew J. Toth, PhD, Science Director, Barth Syndrome Foundation Inside this Issue We have entered a new frontier in science and medicine by planning to test Barth syndrome (BTHS) specific therapies in humans. These 2014 BSF Research Grants 1/4-7 specific therapies go beyond what has been done so far by taking Layman's Perspective on 1/8-9 advantage of the research knowledge gained over the years. We now Therapy Development have over seven different therapeutic ideas that may make a real Letter from Executive 2 difference in the lives of our boys and men. Many of these ideas are Director the direct result of the Barth Syndrome Foundation (BSF) Research Letter from Chairman 3 Grant Program. Some will fall off the list over time and others likely Results from 2012 9-10 will be added, but this is a very promising start. Art, Ritual, and Reform: the Archconfraternity of the Holy
ART, RITUAL, AND REFORM: THE ARCHCONFRATERNITY OF THE HOLY CRUCIFIX OF SAN MARCELLO IN ROME By KIRA MAYE ALBINSKY A dissertation submitted to the Graduate School-New Brunswick Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey In partial fulfillment of the requirements For the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Graduate Program in Art History Written under the direction of Catherine Puglisi And approved by ___________________________________ ___________________________________ ___________________________________ ___________________________________ New Brunswick, New Jersey October, 2017 ABSTRACT OF THE DISSERTATION Art, Ritual, and Reform: The Archconfraternity of the Holy Crucifix of San Marcello in Rome By KIRA MAYE ALBINSKY Dissertation Director: Catherine Puglisi “Art, Ritual, and Reform” is the first comprehensive study of the social history, devotional practices, and art patronage of the Arciconfraternita del SS. Crocifisso di San Marcello a Roma, one of the most prominent lay religious associations in sixteenth- century Italy. Divided into four main chapters, the dissertation first develops the innovative theory of conspicuous devotion through a documented examination of the company’s religious rituals and urban processions during the Catholic Reformation. The following chapters apply the theory to analyses of the confraternity’s commissions in the Cappella del Crocifisso in San Marcello and the nearby Oratorio del Crocifisso, in which Perino del Vaga (1501–47), Daniele da Volterra (1509–66), Giovanni de’ Vecchi (ca. 1536–1615), Cesare Nebbia (ca. 1536–1614), and Niccolò Circignani (ca. 1517/24–after 1596) painted. Challenging traditional interpretations of Central Italian painting from 1520 to 1590, the object-focused project argues that conspicuous meaning and form served conspicuous devotion to both instruct and inspire, in accordance with the reforms of the Catholic Church. -

Box 1346 Ann Arbor, Ml 48106-1346 Abstract This thesis studies sailors who worked onboard British and North American slave ships between 1750 and 1808. Its starting point is the discrepancy between maritime historiography and that of the slave trade: in the former seamen appear as radical, anti-authoritarian figures who were far more accepting of black men and women than other occupational groups in this era. In slave trade literature, by contrast, sailors appear as shadowy figures ready to do the captain’s bidding, which generally meant abusing, maltreating and assaulting men and women of African origin. Through detailed analysis of the lives and working conditions of those who were lowly employees in the slave trade, it is possible to see that the much-vaunted radicalism of seamen as a group grew at least in part from their work onboard ‘guinea ships’. -

DEDICATION No person living is more deserving of the honour of this research than my beloved family: Shirley, my wife; Nyah, Elvis and Esther, my kids. A lovely foursome, that stoically endured my absence, and whose constant exhortation, “Daddy take good care of yourself” provided the most needed stimulus in the face of the adversities and challenges in a strange land. i ACKNOWLEDGEMENT My studies in the United Kingdom have been the greatest opportunity of my life. And this came about and progressed successfully by a combination of factors, most of which were independent of my doing. It is only normal in such circumstances to offer my appreciation to whoever forms part of this success story. I cannot boast of knowledge of all those wonderful people I met in the libraries, offices and courts in Cameroon and England. -
