The Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA) had just released two publications, Action for Internationid Competence and Guidelines for International Education at Colleges and Universities. The framework for the internationalization of higher education had been put into place by Jack Van de Water and Burkart Holzner and their task forces through these documents. It was time then to translate the contents of those manuscripts into strategies of implementation. The concept for this book was born. In the 11 years since the official creation of AIEA in 1981, interna- tional education moved from a peripheral activity in higher education to one which was integral to the teaching, research, and service mission of the colleges and universities in the United States. Survival of any nation in the global society depended greatly upon a citizenry educated to live and work in a world made small by the telecommunications revolution and interdependent economies. As if to underscore the dynamism of the international society, startling changes began to take place. First, the "empire" of the Soviet Union disintegrated, the Berlin Wall came tumbling down, Germany was re-united, a war was fought and won by a delicate coalition of nations against Iraq in the Gulf, and finally the Soviet Union itself collapsed. It was during these two turbulent years that the contents of this book were researched and the chapters written by a group of authors who were leaders in their profession at a time when almost all colleges and universities saw internationalization of higher education as a high priority. The strategies for elevating the role of international education in the academic and service arenas of higher education were to assist institutions in achieving their goal of internationalization. Yet, following the Gulf War things began to change in the United States. Some called it the "peace clhiclend," others were more direct the U.S. was in a severe recession. New jobs disappeared, layoffs were rampant, budgets were being cut, universities were making the painful transition from the ebullient eighties to the nineties. The phrases, "Buy American," "keep jobs for Americans," and "spend our for 'gn aid dollars at home" began appearing on billboards, were carried on posters in picket lines and were spewing forth from the mouths of the unemployed. The economic, political, and cultural mood of the colintry had changed drastically in only 12 months. 5 Thus, a book which was designed to assist in the creation, develop ment, and enhancement of international programs in colleges and uni- versities in an effusive growth period may now be used to preserve and undergird programs which should, now more than ever, be a keystone of any college's or university's mission. Higher education cannot afford to diminish its international role. Words I first read in 1978, penned by President Emeritus Wesley Posvar of the University of Pittsburgh, are still appropriate today. "There are great universities without law schools. There are great universities without medical schools. There are even great universities without football teams. The majority of these studies have focused on the interaction between a local language and a non-local language. In this project, I propose an analysis of the mixture of two world languages (Spanish and English), which can be categorised as both local and non-local. I do this through the analysis of the enormously successful reggaeton genre, which is characterised by its use of Spanglish. I used two data types to inform my research: a corpus of code-switching instances in top 20 reggaeton songs, and a questionnaire on attitudes towards Spanglish in general and in music. I collected 200 answers to the questionnaire – half from American English-speakers, and the other half from Spanish-speaking Hispanics of various nationalities.

    What’s in a Name #5 Turner Alley #401 Chartered July 28, 1969 Cedar Rapids #5 Turner Alley is perhaps the most widely recognized address in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It is the site of a garage loft, which served as home and studio for Grant Wood during the time when the painter created his most famous works. “American Gothic” which brought immediate fame to Wood in 1930, and “Daughters of the Revolution,” both fine examples of Wood’s sensitive use of satire, were painted at #5 Turner Alley. In fact, the ten years he lived there were the painter’ most productive. Best known as a regionalist painter, Wood portrayed Midwestern rural life in many of his works. However, time, energy and inventiveness he expended in making a home at #5 Turner Alley prove that Wood could create in a great variety of media. Wood created a Spanish style home for himself and his widowed mother along with a workshop/studio for himself at #5 Turner Alley. Aided by some of his art students, Wood grooved, sanded, painted and lacquered the floorboards to represent tile. Wood himself hewed the beams and rough-plastered the walls, did the wrought iron work even to forging the iron, designed and made the time-table front door, and invented, perhaps the only fireplace made from a metal bushel basket turned upside down and used as a cowl. The sunken bathtub at #5 Turner Alley was a compromise. Grant Wood wanted a shower, his mother wanted a tub. Therefore, Wood devised a clever system for both.

    LOU HENRY HOOVER Juliette Low invested Lou Henry Hoover as a Girl Scout in 1917. From then until the end of her life, Lou Henry Hoover was actively engaged in the Girl Scout movement. She was a leader of Troop 8 in Washington, D.C. for ten years; a council member in Palo Alto, California; Chairman of the Girl Scout National Board of Directors; twice elected President of the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A.; and honorary president when her husband was President of the United States. Although she was interested in all of Girl Scouting, the out-of-doors was her special love. An expert and enthusiastic camper, she was eager for all girls to experience camping. Day camping was introduced into Girl Scouting during Mrs. Hoover’s first term as President of Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. Lou Henry Hoover’s love of open spaces and of outdoor living developed as a child when she went camping with her father. On these trips she learned facts and legends about rocks, flowers, trees, birds, and animals, in addition to acquiring skills for living in the outdoors. These childhood experiences prompted her to major in geology at Leland Stanford University. There she met Herbert Hoover and later, a year after she graduated in 1898, married him. Mr. Hoover’s work as a mining engineer took them all over the world. Whether living in China, Mandalay, Japan, Australia, Russia, England, or the United States, Lou Henry Hoover always found and kept a nearby outdoor sanctuary. When the Hoovers went to live in the White House, they found a campsite in the wilderness in Virginia.

Jak podają źródła, w 1948 roku francuski badacz, kompozytor, akustyk Pierre Schaeffer (1910-1995) nagrał za pomocą mikrofonu dźwięki naturalne m.in. (śpiew ptaków, hałas uliczny, rozmowy) i próbował je przekształcać. Tak powstała muzyka nazwana konkretną (fr. musigue concrete). W tym samym roku wyemitował w radiu „Koncert szumów”. Jego najważniejszą kompozycją okazał się utwór pt. „Symphonie pour un homme seul” z 1950 roku. W kolejnych latach muzykę konkretną łączono z muzyką tradycyjną. Oto pionierzy tego eksperymentu: John Cage i Yannis Xenakis. Muzyka konkretna pojawiła się w kompozycji Rogera Watersa. Utwór ten trafił na ścieżkę dźwiękową do filmu „The Body” (1970). Grupa Beaver and Krause wprowadziła muzykę konkretną do utworu „Walking Green Algae Blues” z albumu „In A Wild Sanctuary” (1970), a zespół Pink Floyd w „Animals” (1977). Pierwsze próby tworzenia muzyki elektronicznej miały miejsce w Darmstadt (w Niemczech) na Międzynarodowych Kursach Nowej Muzyki w 1950 roku. W 1951 roku powstało pierwsze studio muzyki elektronicznej przy Rozgłośni Radia Zachodnioniemieckiego w Kolonii (NWDR- Nordwestdeutscher Rundfunk). Tu tworzyli: H. Eimert (Glockenspiel 1953), K.
