Th e Office of Student Life and Leadership Development (SLLD) provides a diverse range of opportunities for student involvement that complement the academic experience. SLLD advises 80 clubs and organizations at LIU Post. We say “advise” because at LIU Post, clubs and organizations are created by students, run by students, and governed by students, with the assistance of professional staff members and faculty. We believe that it is the students’ passion, leadership, talent, and drive that make LIU Post a truly unique higher education experience.

Clubs and Organizations

Whether you are interested in the arts, culture, the environment, student government, health care, the media, sports, or recreation, there is a club for you at LIU Post! Each club and organization is funded through your student activity fee to provide programs for all students at LIU Post. Break a sweat in our dance and step teams, intramural sports teams, and cheerleading squads. Make the world a better place through community services; represent your heritage in our numerous cultural clubs; or delve deeper into your interests and hobbies. 3 The Arts American String Teacher Association (ASTA): Open to any LIU Post student interested in playing and teaching string instruments at the elementary, middle, high school, or collegiate levels. Art & Art History Club: An academic, social, and professional network for students wishing to pursue a profession in the visual arts. The club provides a platform for the exchange of ideas in scholarship and shares relevant information about professions in the visual arts, internships, and special events. Emerging Student Theatre Artists (ESTA): ESTA was created to unite students who have a passion for theatre by promoting theatre arts outside of the classroom. Post Television Station (PTV Channel 96): This student-run TV station educates those who are interested in broadcasting and entertains the community by airing daily movies and original programs produced by students. Radio Active Productions (WCWP 88.1, Channel 98, online): In conjunction with WCWP (the LIU Post radio station), students use the radio airwaves, Internet, and cable network to broadcast music, sports, news, and special programming to the LIU Post community. Our goal is to educate students interested in all areas of radio broadcasting and to help publicize campus activities and events. The Runway: LIU Post’s most fashionable students work diligently to put on a memorable event at the annual Spring Fashion Show. Whether you want to strut your stuff on the catwalk, create styles, or help behind the scenes, there are plenty of ways for you to get involved! Say Anything Improv: Say Anything Improv is an organization based on improvisational comedy shows such as “Who’s Line Is It Anyway?” It gives students an opportunity to have fun and laugh in a supportive environment. Student Art League: The Student Art League provides an artistic environment for those interested in creating and displaying their talents in a public forum. B.F.A. students exhibit here for their thesis shows. Student Dance Association: The SDA gives students an opportunity to experience and explore various types of dance, including jazz, tap, and interpretive dance. Students Networking to Advocate a Positive Poetic Society (SNAPS): The SNAPS organization brings spoken word to the community and advocates for creative writers to share their literary creativity for criticism and support. Programs include writing circles, open mic nights, spoken word events, and literary publications. Tilles Center for the Performing Arts: Students enjoy discounted tickets at ’s premier concert hall located at LIU Post. Association for Campus Programming (ACP) : ACP, the campus Veterans and Students United: Connect with fellow LIU Post programming board, creates diverse activities and events for students . student-veterans by joining our newest student organization, ACP plans both large and small events to enhance college life Veterans and Students United. The group provides an opportunity outside of the classroom. for student-veterans to network and support each other as they adjust to civillian life. Commuter Student Association (CSA): The CSA caters to commuter sudents looking to get involved and form lasting friendships. Through CSA-sponsored events, commuters enrich their overall college experience and work closely with other student groups to speak up advocate for commuters.

Do Something: One of the nation’s largest organizations that helps young people take action in the causes they support. LIU Post’s Do Something club is a social action club that inspires, empowers, and celebrates a generation of doers. It brings together students who see the need to do something, believe in their ability to get it done, and then take action.

Inter-Residence Council (IRC): IRC helps increase campus awareness, support students socially and academically, and act as a vehicle to address resident student concerns.

Student Government Association (SGA): The Student Government Association works with all clubs on campus, handling event requests and keeping the campus lively. SGA serves as an outlet for student voices by working closely with the university administration to enhance the overall campus experience.

5 Cultural Organizations

Anointed Voices Gospel Choir: Anointed Voices Gospel Choir examines the historical origins of gospel music, studies contemporary gospel arrangements, and teaches and sings its techniques.

Black Students United (BSU): At weekly meetings, BSU members interact to discuss topics concerning the community. BSU sponsors several events throughout the year, and diligently works to promote diversity and cultural programs (such as their annual Kwanzaa Ball and Pajama Jam) for the LIU Post community.

Brothers and Sisters in Christ (BASIC): BASIC gathers weekly to educate students about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and provides a spiritual, supportive, and social environment for all students.

Chinese Student Scholar Association (CSSA): Through the Chinese Indo-American Club: The Indo-American Club offers students a Student Scholar Association’s meetings, events, and activities, chance to learn more about the South Asian immigrant culture. Rainbow Alliance: The Rainbow Alliance is an open-minded group of students who provide acceptance and support for those of all sexual orientations. The club’s mission is to educate and unite LIU Post by opening the lines of communication among students.

Sigma Delta Phi Epsilon: Sigma Delta Phi Epsilon is a service organization that emphasizes respect, culture, education, leadership, community service, and co-education. The group works to reduce racism and ethnocentrism.

Student Caribbean Association (SCA): SCA is an organization that promotes the education of the Caribbean and carbine culture through lecture, demonstration, and entertainment.

Forensic Science Club: The Forensic Science Club attempts to advance students’ skills as problem-solvers. The popular Murder Mystery Dinner is just one of many fun events they host throughout the academic year.

Health and Physical Education Majors Club: This club encourages, advances, and contributes to the professional growth and development of men and women in the field of health and physical education. Members sponsor various campus activities and address learning trends. health care

Masters of Social Work: Masters of Social Work is a club geared toward graduate students interested in advancing their skills in the field of social work. In service to LIU Post and the surrounding communities, Masters of Social Work creates projects and events to educate and assist others.

Medical Imaging Society: The Medical Imaging Society’s goal is to provide information for students who are pursuing a career in radiologic technology and to develop a network of students and health professionals in the field of diagnostic medical imaging.

National Student Speech, Language, Hearing Association (NSSLHA): The LIU Post Chapter of NSSLHA creates a fuller appreciation and awareness of the issues regarding speech-language pathology and audiology.

Nutrition Club: In a world of fast-food and quick fixes, the Nutrition Club seeks to educate students to make smart and healthy choices. If you are looking to start a career in the field of nutrition or are interested in knowing more about your own body, this is a great place to socialize and learn more.

Accounting Society: The Accounting Society serves as a link between Pre-Law Association: Pre-Law Association prepares students college students and the accounting profession. considering careers in law and criminal justice. Animal Lovers United (ALU): A club dedicated to the safety, health, protection, and overall welfare of animals. They work in conjunction with other animal organizations in an effort to raise funds that will go toward the care of vulnerable animals and bring awareness to the plight of abused animals.

Men Respecting All Women and Women Appreciating Real Men (MRAW & WARM): MRAW & WARM is a unique club that focuses on respecting women by fighting the negative stereotypes of disrespectful men. The club members strive to show others how to become better gentlemen in everyday life by attempting to empower women and informing students about domestic violence, rape, and human trafficking. social activism

PAGANS (People About the Goddesses/Gods and Nature-Based Studies): Learn the history and the foundations of Wicca, Asatru, Druidry, and Discordianism through interactive programming and community service.

11 Sports and Recreation

Cheerleading: School spirit and sportsmanship combine as the members of the cheerleading squad root for the home team!

Crew: Students with or without experience in rowing can join this club of athletes as they spend early mornings practicing for their seasonal regattas.

Delta-X: Delta-X takes LIU Post student daredevils on adventures that include rock climbing, skiing, snowboarding, camping, and hiking. This group challenges students mentally and physically, allowing them to boost confidence and enhance community involvement.

Division II Athletics: Home to 15 NCAA Division II teams, the LIU Post community has man y reasons to have “Post Pride.” Year after year, the Pioneers boast some of the highest-ranked teams in the country and continue to raise the mark in collegiate competition with numerous appearances in NCAA Champion ships and conference tournaments. liu.edu/post/pioneers

Equestrian Team: This team utilizes our on-campus stables, which are convenient for practice and horse shows. Experienced and non-experienced riders team up to compete and learn horseback riding skills. limitless Ice Hockey Team: LIU Post’s Ice Hockey Team is a group of dedicated athletes that competes in approximately 25 games per season. The LIU Post Ice Hockey Pioneers is a Division II member of the American Collegiate Hockey Association.

Intramural Sports: Get your game on! Join individual sports such as biggest splash, racquetball, tennis, ping pong, golf, Wii™ Pop-A-Shot, 100 yd. dash, and 100 yd. swim. Team sports include flag football, outdoor and indoor soccer, volleyball, 3v3 and 5v5 basketball, dodgeball and softball.

Pioneerettes (Kickline) Club: Kickline encompasses all styles of dance, from jazz and hip-hop to pom and sequences of high-kick. The Pioneerettes embody the true spirit of “Post Pride.” Kickline is open to all levels, from novice to the most experienced.

Post Dance Team: Seen during half-time at basketball and football games as well as other performances, the Post Dance Team invites you to step up your game with them!

12 Other Student Leadership Opportunities

Circle-K: Circle-K incorporates a branch of Kiwanis International on the LIU Post campus. This organization, like its parent organization, is dedicated to community service and active citizenship showing service, leadership, and fellowship. Circle-K provides opportunities for members to participate in volunteer work.

Hillwood Commons and Student Life & Leadership Development Staff: Hillwood Commons and the Student Life & Leadership Development Office hires students to work as assistants, van drivers, and building managers.

It Takes a Village: A student initiative where students help other students and the LIU Post community by focusing on recruitment, retention, and fundraising activities.

Orientation Leader: Orientation Leaders serve as mentors to new students by introducing them to the campus and helping them transition to college life. mentor Peer Mentor: Peer mentors provide new students with information, encouragement, and guidance during their first semester at LIU Post. They are your point of contact to ask questions about college and will be a friendly face at social events.

Pioneer Leadership Development Program: Provides students with the necessary skills to be successful during their collegiate and professional experiences.

Post P.A.L.S.: Upper classmen buddy-up with freshmen or transfer students to better acquaint them with “the ropes” of the campus. Enjoy coffee-talk, a night out, or just keeping your PAL company!

Resident Assistant: R.A.’s work with all students to promote an environment in the residence halls that is conducive to academic achievement, social and personal growth, and group responsibilities.

Safety Escort Service: Student escorts serve in pairs to aid the campus community in the evening hours and offer a “safe walk” for students or faculty who need to be escorted to campus residence halls or parking lots.
