Licensed Modules 5 3 Getting Started with Leica Infinity 3.1 Understanding How to Work with Leica Infinity 3.1.1 Leica Infinity Objects Leica Infinity Objects Leica Infinity is an object-oriented software. The objects are the basic entities for performing operations. All objects are intelligent objects which means that they are interrelated with each other. Sym- Object Description bol Points A point is a named object that represents a loca- tion with either local or global latitude and longi- tude coordinates, and possibly a height or eleva- tion. Lines A line is used to describe feature objects by drawing a line between two or more points. Areas An area is a closed line object. Setups A setup is the source of any measurement obser- vation. Observations An observation is the measurement that defines the source of a point. GNSS Tracks A GNSS Track is an object resulting from process- ing moving or mixed data. Traverses A traverse is a series of intervisible points at which angles are measured and also distances can be measured, to determine the station set- ups. Sets of Angles A set of angles is a series of observations that are reduced to an angular value. The angular value is then coordinated from the source of the observations. Surfaces A surface is a triangulation network representing points, cloud points, lines and areas. Point Cloud A point cloud group is a defined group of point Groups clouds that represents a single object, used for cleaning or surface creation. Point Clouds A point cloud is a measurement object from the data source. Image Groups An image group is a defined group of images that a user can measure image points from. Images An image is a picture captured that is represen- ted by its position or object it is assigned to. It defines the route of a road construction, gen- erally its centreline or axis. Roads A road is made of several objects including a cen- treline and a material layer. The material layer describes the stringlines assigned to it. Material Layers Are the layers constituting a road. A Material Layer groups a set of stringlines that belong to the same level, material or phase of construction. Cross Sections A cross section is a slice or cut at a certain chain- age of the road, displaying the position of differ- ent linear features connected together in a cross section view. Through historical research and a study of primary sources such as line-cut facsimiles, I sought to answer the question, how did the triple impression and single impression methods of printing develop, and is one superior to the other? While Petrucci’s triple impression method produced cleaner and more connected staves, a significant number of problems resulted, including pitch accuracy and cost efficiency.

    PETRUCCI B-04 BOORMAN 6-04-2005 11:15 Pagina 125 STANLEY BOORMAN PETRUCCI IN THE LIGHT OF RECENT RESEARCH It is in the nature of a paper with such a title as this that there can be no single over-arching theme – unless it be that the life and work of Petrucci continue to present surprises and raise problems for the modern interpreter. However, this paper will address a number of diverse issues, which will be subsumed under four different headings: his life before 1520; his contacts for the music he published; his life after 1520 – with perhaps the most interesting new evidence; and something of the implications of patterns of ownership of his editions.1 PETRUCCI’S LIFE BEFORE 1520 Apart from two earlier documents executed in Fossombrone,2 and his privilege application of 1498, Petrucci appears on the scene in 1501 with the immediate triumph of his Harmonice Musices Odhecaton A (RISM 1501).3 This book, with its startlingly brilliant title-initial, with the elegant impagination and individual notational characters, and with the then-unusual landscape format, must have presented an impressive face to browsers in bookshops of the time. Not surprisingly, it has led to the presumption that Petrucci had studied the craft of printing, perhaps in Venice, and presumably after he had studied music (as it was thought) at the court of Urbino. And yet there is no evidence for either. The only list known to me of the “family” of the Urbino Duke, Guidobaldo I, survives in an eighteenth-century copy.4 1 Much of what follows will be examined in greater detail in my forthcoming Ottaviano Petrucci: Catalogue Raisonné (New York: Oxford University Press).
