* * * I. On the Nature of a Consecration Generally speaking, a consecration means a dedication of persons or things to the divine cult. -
The Christian Life Communities As Sprung from the Sodalities of Our Lady 45
STUDIES in the Spirituality of Jesuits 1. The Christian Life Communities as Sprung from the Sodalities of Our Lady George E. Ganss, S.J. 2. A Specimen Copy of Communications from the International Service in Ignatian Spirituality, Rome Articles by Miss Jose Gsell Sister Franchise Vandermeersch Published by the American Assistancy Seminar on Jesuit Spirituality, especially for American Jesuits working out their aggiornamento in the spirit of Vatican Council II Vol. VII March, 1975 No. 2 THE AMERICAN ASSISTANCE SEMINAR ON JESUIT SPIRITUALITY consists of a group of Jesuits from various provinces who are listed below. The members were appointed by the Fathers Provincial of the United States. The purpose of the Seminar is to study topics pertaining to the spiritual doctrine and practice of Jesuits, especially American Jesuits, and to com- municate the results to the members of the Assistancy. The hope is that this will lead to further discussion among all American Jesuits — in pri- vate, or in small groups, or in community meetings. • All this is done in the spirit of Vatican Council II' s recommendation to religious institutes to recapture the original charismatic inspiration of their founders and to adapt it to the changed circumstances of modern times. The members of the Seminar welcome reactions or comments in regard to the topics they publish. To achieve these purposes, especially amid today's pluralistic cultures, the Seminar must focus its direct attention sharply, frankly, and specifi- cally on the problems, interests, and opportunities of the Jesuits of the United States. However, many of these interests are common also to Jesuits of other regions, or to other priests, religious men or women, or lay men or women. -
Bibliogralia Mariana
Bibliogralia Mariana a cura di Giuseppe M. Besutti D.S.M. Edizioni «Marianum) Viale 30 Aprile, 6 . John S. Cummins VATICAN II BISHOP of OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA, 1977
John S. Cummins VATICAN II BISHOP OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA, 1977-2003 Interviews conducted 2014-2015 by Germaine LaBerge A Donated Oral History Copyright © 2018 by The Regents of the University of California Since 1954 the Regional Oral History Office has been interviewing leading participants in or well-placed witnesses to major events in the development of Northern California, the West, and the nation. Oral history is a method of collecting historical information through tape-recorded interviews between a narrator with firsthand knowledge of historically significant events and a well-informed interviewer, with the goal of preserving substantive additions to the historical record. The audio recording is transcribed, lightly edited for continuity and clarity, and reviewed by the interviewee. The corrected manuscript is bound with photographs and illustrative materials and placed in The Bancroft Library at the University of California, Berkeley, and in other research collections for scholarly use. Because it is primary material, oral history is not intended to present the final, verified, or complete narrative of events. It is a spoken account, offered by the interviewee in response to questioning, and as such it is reflective, partisan, deeply involved, and irreplaceable. ********************************* All uses of this manuscript are covered by a legal agreement between The Regents of the University of California and Bishop John S. Cummins dated February 22, 2015. The manuscript is thereby made available for research purposes. Mariology of the Saints 1 Mariology of the Saints
Mariology of the saints 1 Mariology of the saints Throughout history Roman Catholic Mariology has been influenced by a number of saints who have attested to the central role of Mary in God's plan of salvation.[1] While the Marian teachings of some saints may have been virtually unknown during their own life, they have influenced the Church centuries later. An example is Saint Louis de Montfort who was a priest for only 16 years and had but a handful of followers upon his death at the beginning of the 18th century, yet influenced four popes, namely Leo Madonna and Child with saints by Duccio, 14th century XIII, Pius X, Pius XII and John Paul II who chose his personal motto Totus Tuus based on Montfort's influence. The influence of saints on Mariology continued in the 20th century, with Saint Maximillian Kolbe's focus on the Immaculate Conception and his Immaculata prayer. Reflection by Bishop James A. Murray on the MCC's
FOCUS Volume 31, No.3 November, 2003 Reflection by Bishop James A. Murray on the MCC’s Fortieth Anniversary The Michigan Catholic Conference (MCC) was founded in 1963 by John Cardinal Dearden, Archbishop of Detroit. At the time, the Second Vatican Council had only reached the midpoint in its four sessions, which began on October 11, 1962 and concluded on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, December 8, 1965. By establishing the MCC, Cardinal Dearden wisely anticipated the promulgation of the Council’s Pastoral Constitution of the Church in the Modern World (Gaudium et Spes, 12/7/65), which exhorted “Christians as citizens of two cities, to strive to discharge their earthly duties conscientiously and in response to the gospel spirit.... The Christian who neglects his temporal duties, neglects his duties toward his neighbor and even God.” 1. Ten years ago I was privileged to speak to the MCC staff. With the words of Gaudium et Spes in mind, I said that “this Conference has proven to be one of the many good results of the Second Vatican Council and a model for other ecclesiastical provinces.” For forty years the Conference has ably served as the voice of the Catholic Church in Michigan on many, and diverse, issues of public policy. In so doing, it has played a major role in making sure that the Catholics of Michigan perform their duty as citizens “conscientiously and in response to the gospel spirit.” For four decades the Michigan Catholic Conference, through its Board of Directors and its dedicated staff, has labored energetically to promote the common good for all Michigan’s citizens by its advocacy for “peace, freedom and equal- ity, respect for human life and for the environment, justice and solidarity.” Doctrinal Note on the Participation of Catholics in Political Life – Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith A good benchmark against which to evaluate the efficacy of the Conference is, in my opinion, Pope John Paul II’s Apostolic Exhortation to the Church in America, Ecclesia in America, 1/22/99). -
