* * * I. On the Nature of a Consecration Generally speaking, a consecration means a dedication of persons or things to the divine cult. -
The Christian Life Communities As Sprung from the Sodalities of Our Lady 45
STUDIES in the Spirituality of Jesuits 1. The Christian Life Communities as Sprung from the Sodalities of Our Lady George E. Ganss, S.J. 2. A Specimen Copy of Communications from the International Service in Ignatian Spirituality, Rome Articles by Miss Jose Gsell Sister Franchise Vandermeersch Published by the American Assistancy Seminar on Jesuit Spirituality, especially for American Jesuits working out their aggiornamento in the spirit of Vatican Council II Vol. VII March, 1975 No. 2 THE AMERICAN ASSISTANCE SEMINAR ON JESUIT SPIRITUALITY consists of a group of Jesuits from various provinces who are listed below. The members were appointed by the Fathers Provincial of the United States. The purpose of the Seminar is to study topics pertaining to the spiritual doctrine and practice of Jesuits, especially American Jesuits, and to com- municate the results to the members of the Assistancy. The hope is that this will lead to further discussion among all American Jesuits — in pri- vate, or in small groups, or in community meetings. • All this is done in the spirit of Vatican Council II' s recommendation to religious institutes to recapture the original charismatic inspiration of their founders and to adapt it to the changed circumstances of modern times. The members of the Seminar welcome reactions or comments in regard to the topics they publish. To achieve these purposes, especially amid today's pluralistic cultures, the Seminar must focus its direct attention sharply, frankly, and specifi- cally on the problems, interests, and opportunities of the Jesuits of the United States. However, many of these interests are common also to Jesuits of other regions, or to other priests, religious men or women, or lay men or women. -
Mariology of the Saints 1 Mariology of the Saints
Mariology of the saints 1 Mariology of the saints Throughout history Roman Catholic Mariology has been influenced by a number of saints who have attested to the central role of Mary in God's plan of salvation.[1] While the Marian teachings of some saints may have been virtually unknown during their own life, they have influenced the Church centuries later. An example is Saint Louis de Montfort who was a priest for only 16 years and had but a handful of followers upon his death at the beginning of the 18th century, yet influenced four popes, namely Leo Madonna and Child with saints by Duccio, 14th century XIII, Pius X, Pius XII and John Paul II who chose his personal motto Totus Tuus based on Montfort's influence. The influence of saints on Mariology continued in the 20th century, with Saint Maximillian Kolbe's focus on the Immaculate Conception and his Immaculata prayer. Marian Papal Encyclicals and Apostolic Letters
Marian papal encyclicals and Apostolic Letters Since Pope Leo XIII, Popes promulgated Mariology also with encyclicals, apostolic letters and with two dogmas (Immaculate Conception and Assumption). This article reviews the major official teachings by the popes. In terms of formality, papal bulls and Apostolic Constitutions are above encyclicals, followed by Apostolic Letters. 1 Papal Bulls 1.1 Dominici gregis This papal bull was issued by Pope Clement VIII on February 3, 1603. It considered Marian piety the basis for Church and condemned a number of issues as errors, including the denial of the virginity of Mary.[2] 1.2 Ineffabilis Deus In this key papal bull (the title of which means “inef- fable God” in Latin) Pope Pius IX defined ex cathedra the dogma of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The decree was promulgated on December 8, 1854, the date of the annual Feast of the Immaculate Conception. The decree surveys the history of the belief in Christian Madonna and Child, Master of Badia a Isola, c.1300 tradition , citing its roots in the long-standing feast of the Conception of Mary as a date of significance in the East- ern and Western churches. It also cites the approval of Marian papal encyclicals and Apostolic Letters have Catholic bishops worldwide who were asked in 1849 to been a major force that has shaped Roman Catholic Mar- offer their opinion on the matter. iology over the centuries. Preparation of Spiritual Directors of the Lay
PREPARATION OF SPIRITUAL DIRECTORS OF THE LAY APOSTOLATE It is with approximately equal parts of enthusiasm and caution that I undertake to propose for our consideration the elements which should give us ground for fruitful interchange during the latter and major portion of this seminar. Personal conviction concerning the need of an increasing phalanx of spiritual directors in our country and in our time is sufficient to outbalance whatever timidity may exist that I may not be the ideal one to propose them. Begin with this observation: we will not solve all the problems in the matter of spiritual direction; it may well be that we will not be able even to list all of them. If you have noticed that there is a difference between the title of our seminar as listed in the preview summaries sent to you over a month ago, and the title as listed in the program, you begin to see some of the difficulty; preparing directors would seem to be a different problem from the actual directing of the lay apostolate. Yet the problems, at least right now, are quite identical. I am satisfied to repeat, as applicable to either or both titles, the problem as listed in the summaries. For almost 25 years there has been a voice of increasing volume protesting that there is a startling reluctance on the part of most [J»'C] priests to give spiritual direction to groups or individuals who seem to be or authoritatively are called to full Christian life. On the other hand, the priest's experi- ence with priests attests to a fountain of good will among them, to a desire to discover and help form outstanding lay leaders in the Church, plus, in both cases, a timidity about undertaking the work. -
1 Roberto De Mattei Der Kreuzritter Des 20. Jahrhunderts Plinio Corrêa De Oliveira Mit Einem Vorwort Von Kardinal Alfons Maria
