Item 2.1 *Approval of Textbooks/Curriculum - None

Item 2.2 a-b *Approval of Professional Development a. To approve Phyllis M. Annett, Sax Arts Consultant from School Specialty, to present a workshop for K-12 District Visual Arts Teachers on May 19, 2017 at BHS in room F5 during the one session PD day from 1:00-3:00 PM. Information and techniques for using new art materials and resources will be shared. b. To approve an Instrument Inventory Workshop to be conducted by Coles Music Service for the Instrumental and General Music Teachers on May 19, 2017 during the one session PD day. Teachers will create a web-based district inventory of all instruments in the district collection and identify instruments for summer repair.

Item 2.3 a-u *Approval of Student Programs a. To approve Family and Community Engagement (FACE) Parent Workshops for students who attend the BHS SAT prep classes during the month of May at the Buckshutem Road School cafeteria. These parent workshops will consist of topics to include how to help your child prepare for college, help with FAFSA, as well as strategies on how to successfully choose a college and career. Six parent workshops will be held on May 5, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23 and will coincide with the SAT prep classes. Supplies to include materials for each workshop and light refreshments. Total cost of $1200.00, Acct. # 20-468-100-610-00-40. b. To approve "Know Your Rights" Immigration Seminar on May 25, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 PM at BHS. The presentation will focus on the pressing immigration issues and questions present in the Bridgeton community today. It is designed to help parents navigate the process as smoothly as possible and prepare for possible outcomes. The program will focus on the following topics: emergency planning for detention and deportation, power of attorney and the rights anyone is entitled to in case of contact with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Presentation by the Immigration Justice Clinic from Rutgers Law School, no cost to the board.

c. To approve Family and Community Engagement (FACE) Parent University for June 13, 2017 from 5:30 to 8:00 PM at Buckshutem Road School cafeteria. Parent University is an engaging partnership between parents and educators with the goal of working together to promote student success. Parents will be offered various workshops to assist them with parenting and furthering their child's education. Childcare and transportation will be provided for families. Funded by the Family & Community Engagement Expansion Grant. Total cost of $3,000.00,Acct. # 20-458- 100-101-00-40. d. To approve the Community and Parental Involvement Specialist (CPIS) Cafe and Appreciation Night on May 16, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Buckshutem Road School cafeteria in collaboration with Bridgeton Municipal Alliance. Implementation provides the perfect opportunity to infuse and expand evidence based components of FAST (Families and Schools Together) and identify community and parental 3 “Promoters’” who become Community and Parental Engagement Advocates (CPEA’s) in their respective communities. The ultimate goal of this activity is to begin to move parents and community members from involvement to engagement in a cyclical series of activities and events that holistically produce maximized outcomes educationally and socially for families. Total cost of $500.00, Acct. #20- 237200-610-06-40. e. To approve the Pathways & Cherry Street 21st CCLC programs to hold an end of the year dance to celebrate a successful year of programming. The event will be held on June 2, 2017 from 6:30-8:30 PM at Buckshutem Road School in the Gymnasium. Students will be charged $2.00, which will provide them with pizza and a drink as well as admission to the dance. There is no cost to the board. f. To approve BHS Summer School Program from July 10 - August 4, 2017, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM for students, Teacher hours 8:45 AM to 1:15 PM, and Security 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM. The program will be paid pending Title I Funding. h. To approve Revive SJ Parental Involvement Workshops for Immigrant families. These workshops are specifically designed by Title III Immigrant funds for parents and students who are new to the United States of America. 10 sessions for up to 50 families will occur as parents will convene to learn more about the American educational system. 10 sessions @ $1,050 per session. Price includes materials and presenter fee. Presentations will be May 8 - June 30. Total cost $10,500.00, Acct. # 20-244-200-320-00-40.

i. To approve Buckshutem Road School Summer Fun Days. Grades K-2 will go to the Splash Park and the Cohanzick Zoo on June 8, 2017, Grades 3-5 will participate in field day activities that includes a game truck on June 7, 2017, and Grades 6-8 will go to Capps Picnic Grounds on June 6, 2017. Cost of the events will come from the PTO's Student Activities Fund. There is no cost to the board.

j. To approve ExCEL Program Family Night on May 11, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 PM. Students and Parents are invited to participate in activities including Star Lab, Tower Building, Mancala and Mastermind and other family games. There is no cost to the Board.

k. To approve ExCEL Program the Great Replay Fundraiser for the American Heart Association. All ExCEL students will participate in the fundraiser on May 18, 2017 from 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM during PE classes. All students will receive a fundraiser envelope for donations.

l. To approve Indian Avenue School 2017 Field Day on June 13, 2017 with a rain date of June 14. We will host a variety of games and competitions for grades K-5. Bouncin' Buddies will provide with an Obstacle Course, Soccer Kick and Score, Batter Up Baseball Challenge, First Down Football Toss, Basketball Challenge, and Slime Machine. They will also be providing a Snow Cone machine for students to enjoy a refreshing snow cone. The price for all of the above mentioned is $700.00 and will be be paid for by the Parent Spirit Committee. Ice will be purchased for the snow cone machine total cost $50.00, paid by the student activity fund. m. To approve Indian Avenue School Art Night on May 4, 2017 from 6:30-7:30 PM. view an exhibit of their children's work of art together. The art activity will be hosted by Barbara Cuff, Art Teacher at Indian Avenue School. Students will teach their parents skills they learned in art class. There is no cost to the board.

n. To approve Indian Avenue School Hoagie/Baked Goods Fundraiser on May 26, 2017. Hoagies and a soda will be sold to staff members for lunch at the cost of $5.00. There will also be a baked goods sale where all baked goods will be donated by the staff members and sold at a reasonable price. Funds raised will go toward field day expenses. There is no cost to the board. o. To approve Indian Avenue School’s Annual National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony on June 7, 2017 from 9:30-11:00 AM. Under the supervision of Ms. Hernandez, new inductees will participate in the ceremony. The ceremony will showcase student’s responsibility and expectations as new members. There is no cost to the Board. p. To approve Indian Avenue School T-Shirt/Polo Shirt Fundraiser to raise funds toward Field Day. Spirit T-shirts will be in sizes youth-adult in royal blue and display the school mascot, eagle, and name. Polo shirts will be in maroon with the school name printed on them and come in sizes youth to adult. We will also offer a Royal Blue polo shirt for staff in adult sizes. The cost for the polo’s will be $13.00 each and t-shirts will be $9.00. The targeted amount to be raised is $200.00. There is no cost to the board. q. To approve Indian Avenue School Jump Rope for Heart Event on May 18, 2017 from 5:00-7:00 PM. Drinks and soft pretzels will be sold for $1.00 and raffle tickets for a variety of prizes will be sold for $0.50. To raise additional funds hearts will be sold for $0.50 May3-5 and students can make a donation of $1.00 to Pie the Principal in the face May 8-12. All proceeds will go to the American Heart Association. r. To approve West Avenue School Scholastic Book Fair on May 22-30, 2017 with a family night being held on May 24, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The book fair will be held in the Media Center during school hours. The school receives 40% if we reach our goal of selling more than $1,500 in products. If our target goal is met, we will purchase books for our evening parents and students events. s. To approve West Avenue School Renaissance Rising Arts Integration Program (through the Young Audiences Bridge to AIE Grant) will be held at BHS on May 22, 2017 at 7:00 PM. Students in Gr. 7 will perform dances they have learned through their study of the Harlem Renaissance under the direction of the Young Audience artist-in- residence Marc Flaco for parents and families. active participation in arts education at all schools in New Jersey. Family members will be able to fill out postcards to send to local Representatives to express thanks and support for the arts programming in the schools. t. To approve West Avenue School MAS ALTO Arts Integration Program (through the Title I Arts Integration Grant) on June 6, 2017 from 6:30-8:00 PM. Students grades 1-3 will share storytelling, art and music with their parents and families representing the learning that they have experienced through the program. The teachers in collaboration with Young Audience artist-in-residence Karen “Queen Nur” Abdul-Malik will host the event. u. To approve West Avenue School Summer Reading Olympics on June 12, 2017 from 6:00-7:30 PM. This event will be offered to students and parents to provide them with information about various methods to implement and encourage their child to read during the summer months. The activities will consist of Alphabet racing, Word Scrambling Sprints and Relays. Each student will receive a free book and summer packets. Total cost of $500.00, Acct. # 20-237-200-610-07-40.

Item 2.4 *Approval of Observation

To approve Tracy Soman, an Instructional Assistant at Buckshutem Road School, to have her professor, Diane Cavagnaro, observe her as part of the requirement for preschool certification (P-3) from Montclair State University during the summer semester (May 15-June 8, 2017). The observations will be a total of 3 hours. Permission slips for all students will be submitted to the Assistant Superintendent.

To approve Broad Street School Debate Team to go to Quinn Broadcasting in Millville, NJ for an interview on May 9, 2017. 12 students and 2 chaperones will attend. To approve the anticipated agreement with the Cumberland County College and the Bridgeton Public Schools to continue collaboration for the Gear Up program operating within BPS. CCC seeks to apply for a new 6- year cycle in which they will continue to work within BPS to provide, afterschool tutoring, summer programs, field trips as well as other services for students in grades 6-12 to increase student achievement.

b. To approve the agreement with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for Behavioral Disability Inventory -2 Data Manager Web Renewal in the amount of $364.40 to be charged to Account # 11-000-218-590-00-18.

c. To approve the renewal for IEP Direct/Frontline Services. Quotes were solicited during the 2016-2017 school year and included pricing for this upcoming 2017-2018 school year. $14,451.49 to be charged to account #11-000-218-390-00-18.

d. To approve the agreement with the New Jersey Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs for the position of regional educational consultant for children with hearing loss. The educational consultant provides assistance in the improvement of educational programs and services for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. Services are for student whose name is filed with Child Study Team, July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018.

e. To approve the agreement between Revive SJ and Indian Avenue School to complete the following: RSJ will make funding of up to $5,000 available to Indian Avenue School to assist with mutually agreed upon programs and needs including, but not limited to: Indian Avenue School Community Garden; Advocacy available to Indian Avenue School families; Partnership in family resources nights or other family events hosted by the school; RSJ will send representation to the SLC meetings at Indian Avenue School as able; RSJ will partner to write grants to provide additional funding for areas of need identified by the Indian Avenue School. There is no cost to the board.

f. To approve the agreement with the Division of Food and Nutrition to continue with CEP for the 2017-2018 school year. g. To approve the acceptance of Uniform and Mops Bids: This will be a three (3) year agreement with the vendor(s) providing uniforms for the custodial and maintenance staff, police and security officers and the food service staff. Grant submission was approved in January 2017. As per Learning through Gardening grant, the school will receive: • Three white 4' x 8' garden beds, the soil to fill the beds, vegetable plants and seeds three times yearly, children’s garden hand tools, and three soaker hoses. Additional garden beds and materials are provided for two more years if grant requirements are met. To approve the Bridgeton Public Schools to apply for the Assistance for Arts Education- Professional Development for Arts Educators grant funded through the USDE Office of Innovation. This opportunity will allow the district to implement professional development programs for arts educators and other instructional staff serving schools that meet the requirements of the ESEA, Title I regulations. As per grant guidelines, the district will collaborate with a museum or cultural institution, or another private agency, institution or organization to provide the professional development. Quinton Public Schools will provide a 20-day supplemental educational enrichment summer program for students in transition beginning on July 10th to August 11th. One additional orientation day will also be allocated before the beginning of the program. The $26,650 cost associated with this program will be allocated to the McKinney Vento grant, which mandates programming for all McKinney Vento eligible students. (Pending Available Funding)

To approve the following students to receive full scholarships to Appel Farm Arts & Music Center's Summer Camp from Sunday June 25, 2017 to July 21, 2017. This is a resident/overnight summer camp. This scholarship is being awarded because of the students participating in the Pathways 21st CCLC program and being outstanding students for the arts. Item 5.1.27 Approval of Summer Feeding Vending

To approve vending to the summer feeding non-affiliated sites located in Cumberland County. The Food Service Department would prepare and package breakfast and lunch items to be picked up by the Site Managers on a daily basis. Gateway Community CAP would be responsible for sponsoring and coordinating the entire, City sites, including hiring and monitoring of their sites. Reimbursement from the sponsor for vending out the meals are:

Breakfast- $2.15 per meal Lunch- $3.77 per meal

In the event that Gateway CAP is unable to sponsor the non-affiliated sites, we are asking the Board’s permission to Sponsor and supply breakfast and lunch to the sites as we did last year. Item 5.1.28 Approval of Partnership for Grant Activities

To approve partnership with Gateway Community Action Agency to participate in their grant activities. The New Jersey Health Initiatives/Robert Wood Johnson Engaging Youth as Next Generation Community Leaders Grant is a continuation of the partnership which Bridgeton Public Schools will refer students for participation.
