a. To approve Bridgeton High School Multicultural Night on May 17, 2017 from 6:00- 8:00 PM. This event will feature an array of multicultural foods from around the world

as well as a showcase from organizations such as the BHS Latin Club, the Native American Club, JROTC and other community organizations. Tickets will be sold.

b. To approve Bridgeton Public Schools Summer Reading Project for Grades K-8. Bridgeton Public Schools is providing books for summer reading for our students in grades. Research has shown by giving students the opportunity to self-select the books they would like to read this summer. The self-selection process increases engagement, motivation and leads to greater percentages of students who read and re-read over the summer months. Total cost $53,000.00, Acct. #20-237-100-600-00-40.

c. To approve the 2017 Bridgeton Public Schools Summer Student Programs Schedule as attached.

d. To approve the Pathways 21st CCLC Logo to be used in the branding of the program in accordance with grant guidelines. The logo was designed by the project manager and includes the names of all five schools in which the Pathways program services. See attached.

e. To approve the following Pathways Culminating Events: Broad Street School: Music with Artist Stefan Schuck - 5/17/17 Grades 2-3 at 9:00 AM and Grades K-1 at 10:00 AM in the Broad Street Auditorium. Buckshutem Road School: Painted Mural with artist Jacqualynn Knight - 5/25/17 at 7:00 PM. Quarter Mile Lane School: Tile Mosaic Mural with Artist Kathy Casper - 5/16/17 at 5:00-6:00 PM. West Avenue School: Dance with Artist Amy - 5/24/17 Grades K-1 at 9:30 AM and Grades 2-3 at 10:30 AM.

f. To approve the Pathways 21st CCLC Program Talent Show at Broad Street School on June 1, 2017 in the Broad Street School Auditorium from 5:00-6:00 PM. Parents and family members will be invited to this event. There is no cost to the board.

g. To approve The Cara McCollum Birthday Book Project at Broad Street School. To honor the legacy of SNJ Today's former lead anchor, Cara McCollum, who died following a car accident last February, the team at SNJ Today has expanded the Birthday Book Project she started when she was a teenager to provide underprivileged children with a new book on their birthdays. Broad Street School is seeking permission to be a recipient of the Birthday Book Project for the 2017-2018 school year where through this project every student in grades K-5 will receive a book for their birthday. There is no cost to the Board.

h. To approve Broad Street School’s Annual Career Day on May 26, 2017 for students in grades K-8. The presentations will be held in the auditorium from 8:30-11:00 AM.

A list of possible presenters is attached for your review. In addition to the presenters, a zookeeper from the Cohanzick Zoo will present the Cohanzick Zoo & You at a cost of $85.00.Acct. # 15-190-100-320-00-03.

i. To approve the Broad Street School Good News Club. The club will be for 20 students in grades K-2. The club will focus on character development helping students to develop and use personal and interpersonal skills to support a healthy active lifestyle through lessons, discussion, games and songs. The club will meet on Tuesdays and will run for 6 weeks from April 25, 2017 through May 30, 2017. Advisors will be volunteers through The Bridge Thrift Store, Amy Repp, kindergarten teacher at Broad Street School, and Deborah Gonzalez-Morgan, Kid's Corner. The Bridge Thrift Store will pay for all supplies. Volunteers will follow Board Policy 1222 Guidelines for Volunteer Fingerprinting.

j. To approve Broad Street School Grandparent Appreciation Social on May 30, 2017 from 2:00-3:00 PM. Students in grades 2-5 will prepare a writing tribute to show their appreciation for their Grandparent or Grandparent figure. The event will be funded by the Broad Street School Character Education Committee and will coincide with some of the Principles of Character Education: promoting core ethical and performance values, engaging family members in character building activities, student self-motivation all while enhancing their writing skills. There is no cost to the Board.

k. To approve Buckshutem Road School Cinco De Mayo Celebration on May 5, 2017. To celebrate Cinco De Mayo, the hall between the media center and the cafeteria will be decorated and turn into a true fiesta. The history of the holiday will be presented through quick fun activities, food samples, educational displays, artifacts, and student work. Each grade level will have an opportunity to walk through and explore the exhibit during their assigned social studies period. Parents will be encouraged to assist to enhance the authenticity of the exhibit. There is no cost to the board.

l. To approve Buckshutem Road Summer Literacy Event on May 11, 2017 from 5:30 - 7:00 PM. Families will participate in ways to keep their child active and engaged in reading during the summer. Stations will be set-up with different hands-on activities related to summer reading. Each family will receive a Summer Reading Kit. Light refreshments will be served. Total cost $300.00, Acct. # 20-237-200-610-06-40.

m. To approve Buckshutem Road School Amazing Race on June 6, 2017 from 5:30-7:30 PM. Following the popular television show, families of students in Grades 3-8 will be split into teams. Each team must visit different stations that may present physical challenges, puzzles, word problems, etc. The team must complete the task at each station to move to the next. The first five teams to fully complete the race will win prizes. The

challenges will include different math, language arts and science skills that have been taught throughout the school year. All teams will leave with a prize for participating. Program costs include materials, light refreshments and prizes. Total cost $250.00, Acct. # 20-237-200-610-06-40.

n. To approve Buckshutem Road School Kite Night on June 8, 2016 from 5:30-7:00 PM. Students in Grades K-4 and parents will be invited to join in the festivities of Kite Day. The night proceeding Kite Day, parents and students will enjoy an evening learning the science of kites and kite flying and be able to decorate a kite to fly on Kite day. During the school day of June 9, students will be able to bring their kites to school and fly them outside in the field. Total cost $250.00, Acct. # 20-237-200-610-06-40.

o. To approve Anti-Bullying Assemblies; Hero's and Mentors with Reggie Dabbs at Cherry Street School for grades 5-8 on May 9, 2017 from 1:00 - 3:00 PM. Total cost $500.00, Acct# 15-000-218-320-00-04.

p. To approve a Socks & Khaki Pants Community Collection Drive starting April 12 – June 15, 2017. Cherry Street School will partner with St. George Greek Orthodox Church to collect socks and khaki pants to be distributed to those students needing emergency clothing during the school day.

q. To approve Bilingual Parental Involvement through Mathematics at Dr. Geraldyn O. Foster Early Childhood Center on April 26, 2017 from 5:30-7:00 PM. The workshop is aligned to NJ PK Teaching and Learning Standard 4.1: Children begin to demonstrate an understanding of numbers and counting and NJ PK Outcome 4.1.1: Count to 20 by ones with minimal prompting and will be presented by the classroom teachers. Workshop activities will include an explanation of Math grade-level expectations and state standards, a presentation of activities that families can complete at home with their child, and a hands-on family/child interactive Math game. Families will receive resources and information that they can use to support their child in the area of Mathematics now and in the future. Approximately 40 participants are expected to attend.

r. To approve Dr. Geraldyn O. Foster Early Childhood Center’s Student Enrollment Community Event on May 3, 2017 (Rain date May 10, 2017) from 5:00-7:00 PM at a location in the community to be determined. This event is a collaborative effort with all 8 contracted child care centers to increase student enrollment in the current preschool classrooms and the anticipated extra classrooms for the 2017-2018 school year. Parents will receive information about the three and four year old programs, an application to enroll their eligible children, games and food. Total cost $400.00, Acct. # 20-218-200- 600-00-01.

s. To approve Dr. Geraldyn O. Foster Early Childhood Center's Field Day on June 2, 2017; Rain Date: June 9, 2017 from 9:00 AM - 1:30 PM. Approximately 420 students and 400 parents will participate. Total cost $1,300.00, Acct. # 20-218-200-600- 00-01.

t. To approve "Pennies for Boomer" Campaign at Indian Avenue School April 14-28, 2017. Boomer was a K9 Officer with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department who lost his battle with cancer last year. The "Pennies for Boomer" Campaign was created in an effort to raise money to expand the K9 Program. Our school was one of five schools in Cumberland County selected to participate in a contest for the Boomer Memorial Fund. There is no cost to the board.

u. To approve Quarter Mile Lane Chinese Auction May 8-12, 2017. Students & Staff will purchase tickets to win gift baskets on display. The cost of tickets 5 for $1.00. Gift baskets will be by grade levels. All proceeds will help with PBSIS, 8th Grade Step Up & Field Day. Student activities and supplies (specialty items such as slushy machines, photo booth, obstacle games and supplies. All of the funds raised will be deposited into the student’s activities account.

v. To approve Quarter Mile Lane Field Day on May 26, 2017. Field day will be held at the high school football field for Grades 4-8 (277 students & 12 staff ). The K-3 students & staff will remain at QML for field day events. Bette’s Bounces will provide Snow cone machine, photo booth, tents and game tables for this event and will setup and take down at QML for the event. A game truck will be rented for 3 hours and the cost is $685.00. The cost for Bette’s Bounces and the game truck will be paid by QML student activities account thru fundraisers. Food Services will provide the menu and all students will have lunch at QML. Trip tracker will be completed for grades 4-8 and staff to go to the high school football field.

w. To approve Quarter Mile Lane Staff Baby Photo Fundraiser during the entire month of May. Every staff member will bring a baby photo and students will guess the staff member. The cost for the tickets are five for $1.00. All funds raised will go toward field day student activities and supplies.

x. To approve Quarter Mile Lane PBSIS Carmelo’s Sub Sale. The sub sale will be April 28, 2017 to May 28, 2017. Students and Staff may purchase tickets for the cost of $7.00. All sub tickets must be redeemed by May 30, 2017. All proceeds from the sub sale will go to PBSIS for student activities. There is no cost to the board.

y. To approve Quarter Mile Lane Freeze Pop Friday’s Fundraiser 2017. Teachers will receive an order form on Monday to be handed in by Wednesday. The teacher will take

their classes order and submit the order form and payment in an envelope. The 8th grade students will distribute the freeze pops on Friday at the end of the day. The fundraiser will run from April 14, 2017 through June 2, 2017. The student activities account will purchase the freeze pops and they will be sold to the students for $1.00.

z. To approve West Avenue School Spring Expo Drama Show on May 25, 2017. The show will include expressive dance, poetry, musical selections solos and short skits. The organizations taking part are the Drama Club, Music Appreciation Club and 21st Century program. There will be three performances one at 9:15 AM, 1:15 PM and the final show at 6:30 PM.

aa. To approve West Avenue School Jeans for Troops Day on May 19, 2017. This program is a dress down day that employers hold to benefit the GI Go Fund. The employers collect $5 donations from employees who would like to participate. Each participating employee is provided with a Jeans for Troops sticker to be worn on Jeans for Troops Day.

bb. To approve Books and Basketball Family Literacy Night at West Avenue School on May 31, 2017 from 6:00-7:30 PM. This event will have family teams competing to answer trivia questions about children’s literature. Families will be put into small groups according to grade level and learn reading strategies that can be reinforced at home. Each student will receive a folder containing activities to use at home to help improve their reading skills. Light refreshments will be served. Total cost $675.00, Acct. # 20-237-100-610-07-40.

The Cumberland County Office of Employment and Training has established a partnership with Wawa, Inc. to support summer employment for approximately 150 Cumberland County youth from Bridgeton High School, Cumberland Regional High School, Millville High School and who will be employed at the following New Jersey shore area Wawa Food Markets: Avalon, Stone Harbor, North Wildwood, Wildwood, Wildwood Crest, Cape May, Villas, Cape May Courthouse, Rio Grande, Sea Isle City, Ocean View, Marmora, Ocean City, Somers Point, Margate, and Ventnor. The participants will be transported via bus pursuant to a separate contract to an assigned work place. Use of the bus is a condition of employment. Four job coaching positions are necessary to promote quality work ethics within youths who participate in the program, provide retention services, and to provide positive support and mentorship to participants. All costs associated will be paid for through the grant.

Item 5.1.9 a-b *Approval of Donation a. To approve JD Pierce LLC to donate $500 to Indian Avenue School's Activity Fund to purchase Olympic Day t-shirts for the students. The full cost of the t-shirts is $952.71.Funds from the Activity Account's Olympic Day budget will cover the offset of this amount, which is $452.71.There is no cost to the board. b. To approve the acceptance of a donation of 225 books from the First Book Organization to the Pathways 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program. All books have been reviewed by a librarian and are age appropriate for students ages 10-15. These books will be given to students to read during summer break in order to encourage independent reading times.

Item 5.1.10 *Approval of Professional Educational Services Agreement

To approve the agreement between the Bridgeton Board of Education and George Washington Carver Educational Foundation. The foundation will provide educational management services and act as the program manager in order to implement the Early College High School Program. The fees paid to the foundation will be $30,000.00 for 100 hours of work as the program manager and $10,000 for books and materials.

Item 5.1.11 *Acceptance and Approval of Bid

To approve the acceptance of Bus Maintenance Bid: This is a two-year contract; the Contractor will provide maintenance for the district’s fleet of buses. The only bid received for this service was from Sheppard Bus. Their bid prices are listed as follows: 2017/2018 & 2018/2019 Fees: Labor Hourly Rate - $44.00 Percentage of mark-up on parts and materials – 20% Road Service - $60.00 per call Towing with Contractor’s wrecker - $280.00 Tow rate within the city of Bridgeton - $280.00 Tow rate plus an additional $50.00 for every 10 miles outside the Bridgeton city limits. Towing rate if service required with different Contractor within the city of Bridgeton - $300.00

Item 5.1.12 *Approval of Negotiated Contract

To approve the Electronic Signs negotiated contract – Bids were advertised for this service on two occasions, the first bid was rejected because it was over the projected budget. No bids were received from the second advertisement. Therefore, in accordance with N.J.S.A. 18A:18A-5c, the district may negotiate with a vendor and award a contract.

Quotes were solicited and one quote was received from Effective Sign Works. The quote price of $71,016.00 is within the projected budget for this project. The vendor will install electronic signs at Broad Street, Quarter mile Lane and Buckshutem Road Schools. To award the contract to Effective Sign Works.

Item 5.1.13 *Approval of Summer Feeding Agreement

To approve Bridgeton Food Services Department provide Summer Feeding under an agreement with the State of New Jerseys Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Division. Summer employees will be hired as needed to cover the schools and or non-affiliated sites approved for Summer 2017. Item 5.1.14 *Approval of Memorandum of Agreement

To approve the Cumberland County College agreement for College Readiness Now III and College Credit Now Grants with Bridgeton High School. Item 6.1.1 a-c *Facility Usage a. To approve the request of Cumberland County Tec to use the Bridgeton High School Auditorium on August 8 and 9, 2017, 12:00pm to 2:00pm for rehearsal and Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm for LPN graduation and pinning ceremony. Rental fee of $200, Custodian fee of $151.60, Security fee of $128.60 and Sound Tech fee of $135.00 will be charged. An appropriate insurance certificated is on file. Approval is granted contingent on the understanding that school activities take precedence. Item 5.1.15 *Approval of Summer Feeding Vending

To approve vending to the summer feeding non-affiliated sites located in Cumberland County. The Food Service Department would prepare and package breakfast and lunch items to be picked up by the Site Managers on a daily basis. Gateway Community CAP would be responsible for sponsoring and coordinating the entire, City sites, including hiring and monitoring of their sites. Reimbursement from the sponsor for vending out the meals are: Breakfast- $2.15 per meal Lunch- $3.77 per meal In the event that Gateway CAP is unable to sponsor the non-affiliated sites, we are asking the Board’s permission to Sponsor and supply breakfast and lunch to the sites as we did last year. We would add the approved sites to our Summer Schedule A form and the Site Mangers would be responsible for picking up their meals from the Broad Street School. Item 5.1.16 Approval of Partnership for Grant Activities

To approve partnership with Gateway Community Action Agency to participate in their grant activities. The New Jersey Health Initiatives/Robert Wood Johnson Engaging Youth as Next Generation Community Leaders Grant is a continuation of the partnership which Bridgeton Schools will refer students for participation.

5119 Transfers – The section titled Intradistrict Transfers in Compliance with No Child Left Behind was changed to Intradistrict Transfers and section edited. ESSA does not mandate that a transfer option be provided to students when the school fails AYP and leaves it to the State. NJ does not have law requiring this yet so the language was softened to provide that a transfer option may be offered.

6010 Goals and Objectives – The introductory paragraph was updated. The phrase Core Curriculum Content Standards was changed to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards throughout the policy. Bullet “B” was updated to reflect the NJQSAC 95% graduation rate goal. Bullets “B,” “C and “D” were updated to reflect current code. Bullet “E” on iSTEAM initiatives was added as a discretionary or optional goal for districts that emphasize iSTEM or iSTEAM in their educational programs. Bullet “F” was added for compliance with the requirements of the Comprehensive Equity Plan Assessment.

6114 Emergency and Disaster Preparedness – There was a minor change to this policy that corrected a grammatical problem in the second paragraph under the section titled Fire Drills and School Security.
