Item 2.3 a-bb *Approval of Student Programs a. To approve Kids Corner Chess Club & Homework Club at Broad Street School. Kids Corner will provide an Afterschool Chess Club (Gr. 5-8) and Homework Club (Gr. 3 & 4) for the students at Broad Street School. Chess Club will be held on Tuesdays and Homework Club will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Kids Corner will provide the Chess Games and snacks for both clubs as well as the salary for the advisors. BPS will provide afterschool busing for the students. b. To approve Broad Street School Family Winter Activity Night for grades K-4 on December 7, 2016 from 5:30-7:30 PM. (Snow date: 12/21/16). Parents will participate with their children in Math games, a Robotics Demo and a presentation from our Attendance Office. The families will also rotate to activity stations for family pictures and a frame decorating station funded by kids corner. Parent Materials will be available on Math/Science information. To approve Broad Street School Family Night Under the Stars for Grades 3-8 on January 11, 2017 from 5:30-7:30 PM. (Snow Date: 1/18/17). At this event,

Students and their parents will be asked to collect Box Tops for Education throughout the school year from participating food products. To approve Hispanic Heritage Cultural Awareness & Diversity Family Night at Cherry Street School on October 13, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 PM. This event will include a presentation on Hispanic culture and values, salsa and meringue lessons, crafts and light refreshments. Total cost $262.95, Acct. # 20-237-200-580-04-40. f. To approve Cherry Street School PTO Fundraisers, "Funds for Kids," beginning September 26, 2016 through October 11, 2016. "Box Tops for Education" Eligible General Mills product labels are valued at .10 per label when mailed to Box Tops 4 Education.; "Shoparoo" using an app, parents snap pictures of receipts from grocery retailers to earn Roo Points for your school! Roo Points are our very own currency - the more Roo Points your school has earned by the end of the school year, the bigger the cash donation received from Shoparoo. Each Roo Point you earn is added to your school's overall total. (500 Roo Points = $1 each donation from Shoparoo). "Monogrammed Pull-over Sweatshirt Sale" will run from October 3-11, 2016. Proceeds to benefit the Clothes Closet, Holiday Food Baskets, and Student Incentives, (items are sold under parent supervision outside the school day). There is no cost to the Board. g. To approve Kindergarten Lead Awareness & Prevention Assembly at Cherry Street School on October 20, 2016 from 9:30-10:30 AM. The assembly will be presented by Amy Minichino, BS Health Educator Southern Regional Lead and Healthy Homes Program. There is no cost to the Board. h. To approve Trunk or Treat 2016 on October 20, 2016, from 5:30-7:00 PM at Dr. Geraldyn O. Foster Early Childhood Center. This event incorporates literacy with fun. Staff will be decorating the trunks of their cars to capture the essence of a popular children's book. Ex. - Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. Students are invited to bring their families and dress in costume to walk around to the different trunks, take a look, and get a treat! This is a fun family event that helps bring literacy to life. i. To approve Mother’s Day Breakfast on May 12, 2017 at Dr. Geraldyn O. Foster Early Childhood Center. This event is to celebrate mothers, foster literacy, and promote independence. Mothers will eat with their child, followed by a reading of the book Five Minutes’ Peace by Jill Murphy, which will be read by a parent. After reading the story, students will use ideas from the story and critical thinking skills to discuss all the things their mother does for them and ways they can help their mother to relax. They will share relaxation techniques and be encouraged to increase independence in their child. Not to exceed $500.00. This event is in conjunction with the FACE Grant. Acct. # 20-218-200-600-00-01. j. To approve the Father’s Day Event – Pops with Pops on June 14, 2017 at Dr. Geraldyn O. Foster Early Childhood Center. Fathers and students will engage in outdoor activities and eat popsicles together, followed by a reading in the classroom. To approve Week of a Young Child Family Fun on April 27, 2017 from 5:30-7:00 PM at Dr. Geraldyn O. Foster Early Childhood Center. Week of the Young Child is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families, and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs. The focus for the event will be to enlighten parents about literacy, math and activities they can continue at home with their child which will also help to prepare students for kindergarten over the summer. Community members will be invited to read to students. This event will be a collaboration with the FACE grant. Not to exceed $300.00, Acct. #20-218-200-600-00-01. l. To approve Multicultural Night on January 24, 2017 (Snow date 1/26/17) from 5:30 - 7:00 PM at Dr. Geraldyn O. Foster Early Childhood Center. In collaboration with the FACE grant, families will join Dr. Geraldyn O. Foster Early Childhood Center as we celebrate diversity with a Multicultural Night. Crafts, food, and activities that reflect the cultures of Bridgeton residents will be celebrated. During the day, students will learn about the culture their class/pod selected and will transform their classroom into that destination for the evening event. Events will include crafts from around the globe, mini food stations, dance and other forms of art to appropriately represent the selected culture. Approximately 250 participants are anticipated. Not to exceed $900.00. Acct. # 20-218-200-600-00-01. m. To approve Read Across America at Dr. Geraldyn O. Foster Early Childhood Center and Buckshutem Road School on March 7, 2017 from 5:30-7:00PM. (Snow date 3/9/17). Read Across America is a national initiative to promote reading. community. Spirit week will excite our students about literacy with a special focus on Dr. Seuss. On Tuesday, March 7, 2017 we will service our families by inviting them into our school and sharing story times, music, art, and fun. Items to be ordered will include, strawberries, blueberries, bananas, tooth picks, rice cakes, icing, grapes and other healthy food items. This initiative is in conjunction with the FACE Grant. Spirit Week - March 6-10, 2017, which includes a night event on March 7, 2017, Not to exceed $300.00, Acct. # 20-218-200-600-00-01. n. To approve Let’s Read Together: Preschool Night at the Library on September 29, 2016 from 5:30-7:00 PM. This program is designed to help support reading in the home. The Dr. Geraldyn O. Foster Early Childhood Center will have a preschool family night at the local library. During the visit, parents and students will receive a tour of the library to become familiar with the available resources (computer, books on tape, etc.) to promote literacy. Also, we will have a story time, songs, healthy snack and a book giveaway. Lastly, the parents will be able to sign up for library cards and be able to check out books to take home with their child which will further promote reading in the home. Not to exceed $375.00, Acct. # 20-218-200-600-00-01. o. To approve Indian Avenue School Hispanic Heritage Month-"A Taste of Spain" by Young Audiences on November 4, 2016 from 9:00 AM-2:00 PM. Students in Grades K-5 will explore the history of Spanish dance and its impact on Latin American dances from countries such as Ecuador and Cuba. There is no cost to the Board. t. To approve Holiday Crafting at QML on December 12, 2016 (Snow date 12/14) from 5:30-7:00 PM. In celebration of the upcoming holiday season, a family craft night will be provided for students, parents and staff. Decorative items will be available for guests to design a holiday themed craft of their choice. In celebration of Grandparents Day and to increase and improve reading skills, grandparents of QML students in kindergarten - 3rd grade will be invited to eat light breakfast and listen to theme related poetry with their grandchild. Grandparents will receive helpful reading tips on ways to make reading more enjoyable for their grandchildren and to increase reading at home. Each week, Mrs. Silva will select two students to assist with operating the school store. We will serve the school community (students, parents and staff) by selling stationery items and accessories. Our school store will promote school spirit and teamwork. Students will gain skills in management, communication, organization, accounting and will adhere to the district’s policy concerning the collecting of sales taxes by completing the necessary paper work and no food items will be sold. There is no cost to the Board. aa. To approve the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) at BHS. Students in grades 9-11 will be taking the PSAT test on October 19, 2016 from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM. The PSAT is designed to allow the students exposure to needed skills and preparation for the SAT. It is the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship which all juniors are eligible for. While the PSAT is not an exact replica of the SAT, it serves as an excellent introduction to the test because the questions and test format are similar. It includes three tests: Reading, Writing and Language, and Mathematics. 1070 tests will be needed for our students. Total cost $ 16,125.00, Acct. # 20-237-100- 600-02-40. bb. To approve Bridgeton Police Chaplains to visit our schools (K-12) and speak with our students on topics impacting our community and programs that are offered throughout our community. Chaplains would be assigned to schools and work with Principals and Guidance Counselors. They typically go into schools during lunch periods to avoid disrupting classwork/teachings. These chaplains are currently also serving Millville and . There is no cost for their services. (Attachments) cc. To approve the BHS Air Force JROTC Drill Team to attend Cadet Leadership Course Camp 2017. The dates are tentatively Saturday, June 24 - July 1, 2017.The camp is located at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey. In addition to the JROTC instructors, a female chaperone will be needed.

a. To approve the submission of the PSEG- Spark Science Partners Grant application. If awarded, this grant will be allocated $20,000 to fund 20 students to participate in a two-week STEM camp during the summer of 2017 where students will use literature to learn about STEM careers, solve real-world math problems, and other extension activities. This grant opportunity will also seek to collaborate with STEAMWorks, a local STEM bases organization in conjunction with Cumberland County Community College.

b. To approve the submission of the New Jersey Afterschool/Summer Program NGO distributed through the NJDOE. If awarded the grant which would commence December 1, 2016 through August 31, 2017. The grant seeks to allow districts to fund both afterschool and a mandatory summer programs in the areas of STEM as well as Language Arts Literacy. The focus of the grant application will to be reduce "Summer Reading Loss" with the intentional focus on accelerated learning during the school year coupled with the proactive approach to summer learning. This grant will provide students with academic support as well as enrichment activities. The grant allocation if awarded s $250,000.

Item 5.1.12 *Approval of Transfers To approve budget transfers through July 31, 2015 for the 2016-2017 school year as attached. Item 6.1.1 Facility Usage To approve the request of Exchange Club of Bridgeton to use BHS Media Center for Monthly Business Meetings on the first Tuesday of each month beginning September and ending in June from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Requesting waiver of rental fees. An appropriate insurance certificate is on file. Approval is granted contingent on the understanding that school activities take precedence. Item 2.3 dd. Approval of Student Programs

To approve Thanks for Giving Food Drive November 1-18, 2016 at Quarter Mile Lane School. Students, parents and staff will be able to donate canned and boxed food items to Bridgeton families in need. Bins will be stationed throughout the building and in classrooms. Classes will compete for collecting the most items and a pizza party. All donations will be delivered to Manna from Heaven. There is no cost to the Board.

Item 5.1.13 *Approval of 21st Century Community Learning Center To approve the Cumberland Empowerment Zone (CEZ) to operate the 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC) program currently located at Cherry Street School. This is a 2 out of 5-year contract that will continue to provide afterschool and summer tutorial, enrichment, and career exploration activities and experiences. The grant cycle begins September 1, 2016 to August 31, 2017. Classes will be held for 2.5 hours each day, 5 days per week during the school year and 5 hours per day for 20 days during the summer program. Materials, supplies, and transportation are funded through the grant. There is a district match of $6,000. Item 5.1.14 Approval of Assistant Superintendent Contract To approve the Assistant Superintendent’s Contract for the 2016-2017 school year as approved by the Interim Executive County Superintendent of Schools. Item 5.1.16 a-b Approval of Affirmative Action Officer a. To approve the Human Resources Manager (TBD) as the Affirmative Action Officer for staff for the 2016-2017 school year. b.
