Poor Ronnie

By RON WALLACE Lunch at the Legion June 16 for seniors

It was another perfect day as the Aurora Chamber of Commerce welcomed more than 40,000 people to Yonge Street Sunday for its 14th annual street festival. For the six hours that it oper- ated, the festival was solid with shoppers and lookers. Three days before the event, the festival had sold its more than 550 booth spaces and the “sold out” signs went up. Teri Hastings, operating her first festival through her compa- ny Creative Corporate Events, said she was pleased with the way things worked out. “I almost cried when I woke up Sunday morning and it was raining,” she said. “But, the rain held off and It turned out to be a very successful event.” Ms Hastings is looking for- ward to the 15th annual festival next year. Chamber officials agreed about 40,000 people took advantage of the street festival which closes Yonge Street the first Sunday in June, and has done for 14 years. The festival started as the World’s Longest Street Sale on the World’s Longest Street to celebrate the 200th birthday of Yonge Street in 1996. THE AURORAN It was only planned for a sin- gle year, but was so successful photos by it became an annual event. Several years ago, the name David Falconer was changed from “sale” to “fes- tival” in order for the Chamber to and Rob Schuetze apply for grants.
