Preface With some hesitation at CBS, Cayuga Productions continued Twilight Zone for what would be its last season, with a thirty-six episode pipeline – a larger count than had been seen since its first year. Producer Bert Granet, who began producing in the previous season, was soon replaced by William Froug as he moved on to other projects. The fifth season has always been considered the weakest and, as one reviewer stated, “undisputably the worst.” Harsh criticism. The lopsidedness of Seasons 4 and 5 – with a smattering of episodes that egregiously deviated from the TZ mold, made for a series much-changed from the one everyone had come to know. A possible reason for this was an abundance of rather disdainful or at least less-likeable characters. Most were simply too hard to warm up to, or at the very least, identify with. But it wasn’t just TZ that was changing. Television was no longer as new a medium. “It was a period of great ferment,” said George Clayton Johnson. By 1963, the idyllic world of the 1950s was disappearing by the day. More grittily realistic and reality-based TV shows were imminent, as per the viewing audience’s demand and it was only a matter of time before the curtain came down on the kinds of shows everyone grew to love in the 50s.

How does this cultural anti-Semitism translate into the media? Through portraying Jews as greedy, neurotic, pushy, money obsessed, cheap, and a myriad other negative stereotypes, the media often perpetuates long standing anti-Semitic tropes. This thesis analyzes the prevalence of Jewish stereotypes in modern television through the analysis and discussion of three of the most popular current television shows, getting into the nuance and complexity of Jewish representation. Through the deliberate viewing of Big Mouth, The Goldbergs, and Schitt’s Creek, the conclusion is that although an effort is being made to debunk some stereotypes about Jews, there are other Jewish stereotypes that have remained popular in television media. These stereotypes are harmful to Jews because they both feed and fuel the anti-Semitic attitudes of viewers.

WARD STATE ATTORNEY 530 Whitehead Street, Suite 301 Key West, FL 33040-6547 (305) 292-3400 KEY WEST, February 21, 2019 – For the Monroe County State Attorney’s Office, 2018 brought justice for numerous victims of crime and protection for the community from repeat violators of the law. Through the diligent efforts of the office’s 50 employees, from attorneys to investigators to victim/witness coordinators and others, and through partnerships with the law enforcement community, dangerous people were taken off the streets and the community was made safer. Following are some highlights from the State Attorney’s Office from 2018. Violent crime Vehicular homicide A Key West woman who killed a popular dental hygienist by running her down with a car was sentenced to 32 years in state prison. April Dawn Thomason, 46, claimed she was temporarily insane from withdrawing from the use of Xanax but a jury didn’t buy it. Thomason was convicted on September 26, 2018, of one count of vehicular homicide, two counts of attempted manslaughter, one count of leaving the scene of an accident involving death and one count of assault. She was sentenced on November 5. Thomason ran down Stephanie Collins, 46, on September 16, 2015, while behind the wheel of a Mercedes on South Roosevelt Boulevard. Collins died that night at Lower Keys Medical Center from what the attending medical examiner called “blunt force injuries.” Her convictions are also for trying to run down two other people.

Ultimately our comfort has to come from the Lord. But we are also called to be the means of comfort for others. As God comforts us we comfort others. You see this as well in Psalm 51. Though his “broken bones” are the direct result of his own personal sin it can still be helpful for any form of suffering. Introduction: In the Seinfeld episode, “The Pothole”, we are confronted with Jerry’s fear of germs. It all starts when he accidentally drops his girlfriend’s toothbrush in the toilet bowl. Jerry, with a grimace, plunges his hand into the toilet to retrieve the wayward brush. He puts the toothbrush back on a shelf and frantically begins washing his hands. As he turns around, to his dismay, his girlfriend with smiling face is brushing her teeth. We are then exposed to several awkward scenes where Jerry flashes back to that moment of the toothbrush--resting itself inside the toilet soaking up all its germs--whilst his girlfriend is anxiously awaiting a kiss. Jerry tries everything to sterilize his girlfriend but the sickening memory of the brush in the toilet haunts him. Nothing seems to work. Finally Jerry has to come clean. A few days later as Jerry comes home he notices that Jenna, his girlfriend, has locked him out.
