Competition Formats - Rule 3 applies Match Play - Rule 3.2 Stroke Play - Rule 3.3

Rule 20 applies for any issues arising during play.

Medal - Rule 3.3 Stroke Allowance - Full Playing Handicap Singles competition Played in Twos or Threes. Record score for each hole - Add up total shots for Gross Score, then deduct playing handicap to obtain Nett Score

Other forms of stroke play :- Singles Stableford - Rule 21 Stroke Allowance - Full Playing Handicap Singles competition Played in Twos or Threes. Record Gross and Nett scores and Points for each hole as per Rule 21.1.

4BBB = Four Ball Better-Ball Pairs (4BBB) Stableford Stroke Allowance - 90% of Playing Handicap Pairs Competition Played in Fours Record Gross and Nett scores and Points of the player with the best Nett score (Highest points)

Singles Bogey or Par - Rule Stroke Allowance - Full Playing Handicap Singles competition Played in Twos or Threes. Record Gross and Nett scores and Win(+), Half(0) or Loss(-) (as in match play) for each hole as per Rule 21.3. Result is found by adding up the holes Won and subtracting the holes Lost.

Foursomes Medal Stroke Allowance - 50% of combined(aggregate) playing handicaps. Pairs Competition Played in Fours

Players play alternate shots with the same ball. The player who drives off on the first hole will then drive off on all the odd numbered holes, their partner will drive off on the even numbered holes. Record Gross scores.

Sunningdale Foursomes Pairs Competition As per Foursomes Medal, but before play players decide who will play the second shot on 'odd' & 'even' holes. Both players tee off on each hole and then decide which ball will be played for the second shot.

Foursomes Stableford Stroke Allowance - 50% of combined(aggregate) playing handicaps. As per Foursomes Medal, but scoring as per Singles Stableford.

Greensomes Stableford Allowance - 0.6 of lower plus 0.4 of higher playing handicaps. Pairs Competition Played in Fours As per Foursomes Stableford, but both players drive off each tee then decide which ball to complete the hole with. As per Foursomes Medal, but scoring as per Singles Stableford.

American Greensomes Stableford Allowance - 0.6 of lower plus 0.4 of higher playing handicaps. Pairs Competition - as per Greensomes Stableford , but both players drive off the tee then play their second shots with their partner's ball before deciding which ball to complete the hole with. As per Foursomes Medal, but scoring as per Singles Stableford.

TEAM COMPETITION FORMATS

Texas Scramble - Shotgun Team of 4 - 1/10th of combined playing handicaps, each player must record 4 drives. Team of 3 - 1/6th of combined playing handicaps, each player must record 5 drives. Medal Competition - Each player drives off, the team decide which ball to take for the next shot and all four players play from that position. This is repeated until a ball is holed out. The Gross score is added up and the handicap allowance (including fractions of a stroke) is deducted to obtain the Nett score.

AM-AM Competition Team of 4 - Allowance 90% of playing handicap Medal or Stableford Best two nett scores on each hole (Some variations)

MARKING CARDS (see examples at the end of this document) Note :- There is no requirement to mark a card in Match Play All competitions with the exception of Match Play are Stroke Play. Scoring in Stroke Play - Rule 3.3b applies.

Before starting the round :- The player should check that the competition details have been entered correctly ie the competiton title, date, player's name(s) and tee-off time.

The player is responsible for entering their correct current handicap on the card.

The player must hand over their card to the marker. (Exception in team events where the marker is one of the team)

At the end of each hole during the round the marker should confirm the number of strokes you took on that hole and enter that gross score on your scorecard in the appropriate column.

In stroke play competitions, other than a medal competition, the marker will usually also enter the nett score and points etc., however this is not a requirement. Only the gross score on each hole will be used to determine the final results.

The player should keep his own record of his gross scores in the markers score columns provided. This will enable him to check his own card with the marker at the end of the round.

After completing the round :-

The player is responsible for checking that the gross score on each hole is marked correctly.

The marker signs the card to show that he/she has completed the scoring.

The player signs the card to show the he/she agrees that the gross scores are marked correctly.

All competitions with the exception of Matchplay are Stroke Play ( Rule 3.3 applies).

Matchplay competitions may be specified as Singles or Pairs (4 Ball Better-ball or Foursomes) format ( Rule 3.2 applies)

Four-Ball competitions - Rule 23 applies.

Note:- In Mixed competitions with Men off the white tees, Ladies receive 2 equality shots to be added to their handicaps. In Mixed competitions with Men off the yellow tees, Ladies receive 3 equality shots to be added to their handicaps.
