SAS CAROLINA CLASSIC SEEKS MAGIC NUMBER

Nationwide Tour Event Needs 300 Volunteers for May 24-30,2004

RALEIGH, NC – The PGA TOUR’s Nationwide Tour returns to the Triangle area May 24-30 and wants you to be part of the SAS Carolina Classic. Experience the excitement as 156 golfers develop their skills for the PGA TOUR while tackling the TPC at Wakefield Plantation. See who will earn the $94,500 winners check as the title is up for grabs with defending David Morland IV graduating to the PGA TOUR.

More than 300 volunteers braved high winds and torrential downpours last year, and tournament organizers are hoping for better weather, but the same community support this year. A variety of related and non-golf related committees exist for those interested in volunteering. Every volunteer gets a full perk package including a NIKE volunteer golf uniform and if they work three shifts, a restricted golf voucher to play the TPC at Wakefield Plantation, the distinguished private, design in north Raleigh.

“The execution of a golf tournament depends heavily on the quality of our volunteers,” said tournament director Jeff Kleiber. “Volunteers help us ensure that all tournament proceeds continue to benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Wake County through the Triangle Community Foundation. It’s truly a great experience for all that are involved.”

SAS Carolina Classic volunteers not only go home with an exciting experience, but they have access to the tournament behind the scenes and inside the ropes. The volunteer fee of $40 covers the cost of the uniform (NIKE golf shirt, Official Tournament hat or visor) and each volunteer receives a volunteer badge (valid for tournament admission and free parking all week), two (2) weekly grounds badges for guests throughout tournament week, two (2) invitations to the volunteer party, meals during shifts worked and the opportunity to earn a restricted TPC golf voucher if you work three or more shifts.

The SAS Carolina Classic is a 72-hole, tournament featuring a full field of 156 golfers playing for a share of $525,000. Last year, David Morland IV took home $90,000 by finishing at 16-under 268 earning his second Nationwide Tour title.

Tournament proceeds benefit educational organizations including the Boys and Girls Clubs of Wake County through the Triangle Community Foundation.

The Triangle Community Foundation is a publicly supported nonprofit organization serving Wake, Durham, Orange and Chatham counties in and assists donors in creating personal charitable funds to meet the needs of the community now and in the future. The Triangle Community Foundation manages the SAS Fund. For the 11th year in the row, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Wake County is the signature project of the SAS Carolina Classic. Giving back is at the heart of the PGA TOUR, with events from the three TOURs (PGA TOUR, Nationwide Tour & Champions Tour) generating a record $82.8 million to charity in 2003.
