History

The Gary Player Classic is a Golf Australia Order of Merit Boys' Event open to male golfers under the age of 21 years. It is played over 72-holes stroke play in 3 age divisions - 15 Years and Under; 16 - 17 Years; and 18 - 20 Years.

It has been an integral part of the Australian Junior golfing calendar since 1972. Mr Gary Player has been a supporter of this event since its inception.

Gary Player is a South African retired who is widely considered to be one of the greatest golfers ever. During his career, Player won nine major championships on the regular tour and nine major championships on the Champions Tour. Gary Player supports Junior Golf in Queensland and provides playing opportunities to young golfers.

The Katherine Kirk Classic is an Australian Girls' Ranking Event and open to girls under the age of 18 years. It is played over 54-holes stroke play and conducted by Golf Australia. The Junior Open is an Open Qualifier for the Greg Norman Junior Masters and is open to boys and girls with a GA handicap.

Katherine Kirk is a professional golfer from Australia, currently playing on the U.S.-based LPGA Tour and the ALPG Tour. Katherine Kirk played a lot of her junior golf in the South-east Queensland area and supports Junior golfers by provide a tournament and playing opportunities.

History

This prestigious event is open to all Clubs, which have competed in the annual Gertrude McLeod Competition. Only the WINNERS of the Gertrude McLeod Competition at Club level in Divisions 1, 2 and 3 are invited to participate in an 18-HOLE STROKE EVENT to play for the Gertrude McLeod Perpetual trophy in each division.

The Club’s nominated players in all divisions are eligible to be entered in the NETT TEAMS EVENT with two (2) scores to count. Clubs may nominate an additional representative (Different Division) if only one nominated.
