DESCRIPTION On May 4, 2006, staff presented to the Planning and Development Committee the Bus Technology selection for FY08-12 and requested approval to initiate and award a one-year base with four one-year options competitive procurement of hybrid electric buses. This contract includes 100 buses a year for five years with options for an additional 100 buses each year assignable to other agencies. The Committee requested staff return to the Committee for final approval of the selected vendor. On June 19, 2006, the Board approved funding and authority to initiate the contracting action. Additionally, staff is requesting Board approval to purchase 22 articulated CNG buses as replacement buses. These 22 articulated CNG buses will be procured in accordance with Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Circular 4220 1.E “Assignabilty” options available from Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority for CNG Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) style buses. FUNDING IMPACT There is no further impact on funding. Funding approved June 2006. RECOMMENDATION Board approval to award a one-year base with four one-year options competitive procurement of hybrid electric buses and procure 22 articulated CNG buses utilizing piggy-back options available from Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority for CNG Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) style buses.

JIM HOFFMAN, SUPERINTENDENT FROM: MICHAEL OUIMET, ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT FOR BUSINESS SUBJECT: BUS REPLACEMENT PLAN/BUS PROPOSITION DATE: FEBRUARY 3, 2016 CC: BOARD OF EDUCATION, MARK PREMO I am recommending the district seek voter approval on May 17, 2016, to spend $749,044 to purchase eight (8) new transportation vehicles in alignment with the District’s bus replacement schedule. This schedule of bus replacements was recommended in the district’s transportation study completed in the Fall of 2010 by Transportation Advisory Services (TAS). Please see attached, the “Fleet” section of this report for your reference. The School Bus Proposition breaks down as follows: • $673,590: purchase of six, 65-passenger school buses @ $112,265 per bus • $100,254: for the purchase of two, 28-passenger school buses @ $50,127 per bus $773,844 ($24,800) Less: Trades of $24,800 for eight (8) buses. $749,044 Please see attached, the proposed specifications for the vehicles recommended to be purchased. TAS recommends a consistent replacement plan, requiring a bus purchase vote each year, because an annual replacement plan of the existing fleet helps the district to maintain student safety and control repair and maintenance costs on older buses. A well thought out bus replacement plan is more cost effective and enables the district to consolidate routes and adjust its fleet as needed year to year. The replacement plan will also support continuation of the District’s excellent safety record with the New York State Department of Transportation. All congresses (referred to as “conferences” before 2005) have been made up of offi cial representatives of state departments of education, public safety, motor vehicles, and police or other state agencies having state-wide responsibilities for the administration of student transportation; local school district personnel; contract operators; advisors from industry; and representatives from other interested professional organizations and groups. Each conference has resulted in one or more publications that contain the recommendations of that particular conference. The recommendation of specifi cations and procedures for school buses and their operation has been a major purpose of all conferences. The 1939 Conference was called for this sole purpose and formulated a set of recommended standards for school buses of 20 or more passengers.
