Press Release Music Nash has performed over 275 new works, including 175 commissions of pieces especially written for the ensemble. At Kettle’s Yard the Nash will perform a new Kettle’s Yard New Music commission by Richard Causton as well as works by Mark-Anthony Turnage, Shostakovich as well as Series, programmed by Stravinsky’s ‘Three pieces for string Quartet’ which was written in 1914 as revolt against the tradition of the Kate Whitley string quartet, inspired by the non-classical rhythms of Russian peasant music. Other established stars of the 2015 new music season include internationally acclaimed mezzo-soprano Lore Lixenberg who, accompanied by January - June 2015 violinist Aisha Orazbeyeva, will perform Gyorgy Kurtág’s extraordinary song cycle, inspired by Kafka’s letters and diaries. We are delighted to announce that Kate Whitley is the new music concert programmer at Kettle’s Yard for 2015, she presents an exciting series featuring dance performances, works for turntable and concerts inspired by gallery exhibitions. The new music series offers audiences a fresh path through contemporary classical music within the intimate and visual setting of the Kettle’s Yard house. Kate Whitley is a composer, pianist and founder of The Multi-Story Orchestra. Whitley’s work in bringing classical music out of the concert hall and into new contexts has been hailed as part of “the most exciting development in classical music for decades, if not centuries”, The Times. This is a welcome return to Kettle’s Yard for Kate Whitley who, while studying at the University of Cambridge, programmed the Kettle’s Yard student lunchtime concert series. On 12 March Kettle’s Yard presents the premiere of a newly commissioned contemporary dance and music work by Kate Whitley and choreographer Malgorzata Dzierzon in response to New Rhythms: Henri Gaudier-Brzeska, Art, Dance and Movement in London 1911–1915.
