Muurbloem Design Studio At Muurbloem, we work as a multidisciplinary design studio. We design walls, products and interiors but also specialise in designing patterns.
How people choose to decorate themselves and their environments has always intrigued us. We are fascinated by old cultures and traditions and this has broadened our know ledge within design application and has created a solid platform for the creation of Floorfashion by Muurbloem.
The concept Doing business abroad can be an exhilarating and inspiring experience opening gate- ways to layers of new cultures. Since ancient time, people of different cultures have hand- crafted patterns for their clothing. These patterns were used as one of the first ways of communicating interests and developments.
On journeys, impulses of fashion influence us and we put on new layers when shifting and adapting to new cultural settings. The creation of Floorfashion by Muurbloem began with mapping the world, searching for special details and cultural diversities between continents and countries. We found that each culture is composed of complex and unique layers. In fashion, the use of layers is a widely known phenomenon. We wish to intro- duce this phenomenon to the Muurbloem carpet collection. As fashion dresses a person, Floorfashion by Muurbloem dresses architecture.
Design in layers Each carpet design in the collection is composed of four different layers. The large span of patterns decorates the interior and adds a beautiful and striking expression to the environment. Select the layers you desire and recolour to create unique styles and atmospheres. Behind each layer is hidden new meanings and new expressions that when combined transform into impressive floorfashion.

4 Floorfashion by Muurbloem
Ground breaking layer concept Floorfashion by Muurbloem is a multifunctional collection of 12 designs inspired by local, folkloristic clothing from all over the world. Each design is composed of a set of four layers which can be individually selected and recoloured. The four layers differ from one another in regards to motif, colours and proportions.
Working with the layers is easy. Simply select as many of the layers of a design as you please. By adding and recolouring layers, Floorfashion by Muurbloem allows you to create truly fashionable floorscapes. As a quick and easy alternative to your ownpersonal layer mix, this catalogue presents a wide range of predefined layer combinations for your inspiration.
The collection is developed in ege’s standard colour palettes making recolouration pos- sible for all designs. The Floorfashion by Muurbloem collection contains some standard patterns in which blend colours are used. Solid and blend colours are shown in colour codes beneath each pattern.
Colour codes GB1-12 equal solid colours and colour codes AC equals blend colours.
Please note that both standard and special designs, with large uni-coloured areas, in Highline 80/20 1100 and Highline Loop might require an approved production trial run prior to final production.

The Yukata is a colourful Japanese garment with straight and wide sleeves. A child may wear a multicoloured print, a young woman a floral print while an older woman would often wear a Yukata in traditional dark blue colours with a geometric pattern. The Yukata carpet design reflects the beautifulflowers of a young woman and the design succeeds in adding a feminine touch to the architecture. The extreme large flowers are creating an appealing and an exuberant atmosphere.

The Japanese Haori is a lightweight jacket made of silk which is used to keep the formal kimono clean and dry. Originally, the Haori was worn only by men, but in the beginning of the 20th century it became a fashionable garment for women as well. Huipil means blouse or dress and is a garment worn by women in Central to Southern Mexico. The Huipil is often beautifully decorated with hand-made stitching and embroidery. The elaborate design and patterns of a traditional Huipil delicately reflect the layers of the wearer’s history; the village she belongs to, her marital status and her personal beliefs. The Huipil carpet design applies an intelligent order of patterns which bring out the various functions and styles of an interior.

The Sarape is a long shawl often worn by Mexican men. The design, which is a fusion of indigenous and Spanish elements, often consists of a dark base colour with bands of bright colours. The use of colour and design creates a three dimensional effect which is truly unique. Referring to the colourful bands of the shawl, the Sarape carpet design is created by mixing classic Spanish patterns in various colours.

The Kurta is a traditional garment worn in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka. It is tailored as a loose shirt falling either just above or somewhere below the knees of the wearer, and it is worn by both men and women. The cut of the Kurta is usually simple although the design of the fabric can be quite elaborate. The Kurta carpet design shows a mixture of various patterns which are loosely laid next to and on top of each other. Looking at the carpet, your eyes travel from one layer of pattern to the other, allowing you to go into depth with the surface, but never being fixed on one path.

The Szur is a dramatic coat which was traditionally worn over the shoulders as a cape. The coat is lavishly decorated with cutwork felt appliqué, made by Magyar herdsmen in Hungary, as far back as the Middle Ages. The geometric shapes make the coat an ideal canvas for other needlework techniques, as well as for handwoven fabrics. You find the geometric patterns of the coat in the first layers of the Szur carpet design. The top layer is filled with laced patterns which elegantly decorate the surface.

Traditional Kamik boots are worn by women in Greenland on special occasions. Kamiks are made of sealskin, and consist of three parts: The inside stocking Kamik; a layer of grass for warmth and ventilation; and the outer Kamik. The boots are found in various shapes; for summer and winter, according to occasions, age and gender of the wearer. Walking over the landscape of the Kamik carpet design, you cross fields and pass through rough bushes. Recolor the layers and take a walk in your own landscape.

Bunad is a traditional Norwegian, national costume typically of rural origin. The designs are often elaborately performed with hand-made embroidery and matching scarves, shawls and hand-made silver or gold jewellery. Traditional Bunads were decorated to reflect the family home and area of origin of the wearer. The Bunad carpet design refers to a floor plan of extreme embroidery. The organic branches and leaves are draped like a shawl over the surface of your interior.
