San Antonio The eight poems in Latin and English written at the time of the English victory at Flodden Field in 1513 are various combinations of praise, vitu­ peration, satire, and polemic, reB.ecting the attitudes of their authors, John Skelton, Thomas More, Peter Cannelianus, and Bernard Andre.' Th so courtly makers, homogeneous in both their humanist background and court employment, see the battle essentially the same way-as an occasion to celebrate their royal employer and to abus his enemy-thus the differ­ ing verse forms and slanted treatments are grounded in a common point of view. However, John Skelton, as author of three of the eight poems, adds another dimension to his office. ln one of the poems he seems to be speaking the king's man to the king's court; however, in another poem, hls office is more generalized: h is a popular poet addressing the people of England as their teacher, but also, peculiarly, expressing their own views in his single voice.

    ASTRA MILITARUM SOLDIERS OF THE IMPERIUM These datasheets allow you to fight Apocalypse battles with your Astra Militarum miniatures. Each datasheet includes the characteristics profiles of the unit it describes, as well as any wargear and special abilities it may have. KEYWORDS Throughout these datasheets you will come across the <Regiment> keyword. This is shorthand for a keyword of your choosing, as described below. <REGIMENT> Most Astra Militarum units are drawn from a regiment. Some datasheets specify which regiment the unit is drawn from (e.g. Mukaali Riders have the Tallarn keyword, so are drawn from the Tallarn Regiment), but where a datasheet does not, it will have the <Regiment> keyword. When you include such a unit in your army, you must nominate which regiment that unit is from. You then simply replace the <Regiment> keyword in every instance on that unit’s datasheet with the name of your chosen regiment. For example, if you were to include an Atlas Recovery Tank in your army, and you decided it was from Vostroya, its <Regiment> Faction keyword is changed to Vostroyan and its Recovery Vehicle ability would then read: ‘At the end of the Action phase, this unit can to repair one friendly Vostroyan Vehicle unit in base contact with it. If it does, remove one damage marker from that Vehicle unit. Only one attempt to repair each unit can be made each turn.’ ATLAS RECOVERY TANK 5 An Atlas Recovery Tank is a unit that contains 1 model. HISTORICAL CALENDARS, COMMEMORATIVE PROCESSIONS AND THE RECOLLECTION OF THE WARS OF RELIGION DURING THE ANCIEN RÉGIME PHILIP BENEDICT * Abstract — In the centuries that followed the Edict of Nantes, a number of texts and rituals preserved partisan historical recollections of episodes from the Wars of Religion. One important Huguenot ‘ site of memory ’ was the historical calendar. The calendars published between 1590 and 1685 displayed a particular concern with the Wars of Religion, recalling events that illustrated Protestant victimization and Catholic sedition. One important Catholic site of memory was the commemorative procession. Ten or more cities staged annual processions throughout the ancien régime thanking God for delivering them from the violent, sacrilegious Huguenots during the civil wars. If, shortly after the Fronde, you happened to purchase at the temple of Charenton a 1652 edition of the Psalms of David published by Pierre Des-Hayes, you also received at the front of the book a twelve-page historical calendar listing 127 noteworthy events that took place on selected days of the year. 1 Seven of the entries in this calendar came from sacred history and told you such dates as when the tablets of the Law were handed down on Mount Sinai (5 June) or when John the Baptist received the ambassador sent from Jerusalem mentioned in John 1.19 (1 January).

    1 Primary Source 10.2 SWISS INDEPENDENCE1 During the first half of the fourteenth century, eight Swiss cantons, or states, joined together in alliances in order to protect their autonomy from surrounding feudal lords. Starting around 1450, more cantons joined them as they resisted the powers of the duke of Burgundy—Charles the Bold (1433–77)—, Duke Sigismund (1427–96) of Habsburg of Austria, and King Louis XI of France (r. 1461–83). These powers feared the territorial expansion of the Swiss Confederation, as well as the ideas of independence present in them. The Swiss confederates played their enemies against each other, and eventually sided with Sigismund to counter the expansion of Charles the Bold. Charles’s lost lands became part of France, and the Swiss Confederation gained independence from the Hapsburg Empire. Slightly over two decades later, the Swiss states received complete autonomy from the Holy Roman Empire as well. Although the individual Swiss cantons would govern themselves independently of the others, the Swiss Confederation did gradually develop a political assembly of representatives from each canton that would come to determine common policies and settle disputes.
