2015 Australian Under 14 Boys Club Championships CHAMPIONSHIP BULLETIN 1 2015 AUSTRALIAN UNDER 14 BOYS CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS Welcome to those of you who will be attending the 2015 Australian Under 14 Boys Club Championships in Perth, Western Australia. For those of you looking to head to Western Australia, we strongly encourage you to do so. WA is a great tourist destination with beachside towns of Fremantle, Mandurah and Bunbury now within a 90 minute drive. For those looking to head to our great wine regions, the Swan Valley (1 hour) and Margaret River (4 hours) is a short trip away. Perth, capital of Western Australia, sits where the Swan River meets the southwest coast. Its suburbs lie along sandy beaches overlooking the Indian Ocean. The huge riverside King’s Park and Botanic Gardens on Mt Eliza offer sweeping views of the City. For more information regarding accommodation/attractions/restaurants, please follow this link: http://www.westernaustralia.com/ The Championships will be held at Bendat Basketball Centre (BBC) from Monday 28 September to Saturday 3 October 2015. It is situated in the western suburbs of Perth in the Shire of Subiaco. The venue address is 201 Underwood Avenue Floreat WA 6014. Basketball WA’s contact telephone number is (08) 6272 0741. BWA has previously hosted the various Championships at the Perry Lakes Basketball Stadium. In 2010, Basketball WA moved its offices to the WA Basketball Centre, and in 2012, hosted the U18 Australian Junior Championships and Kevin Coombs Cup. Bendat Basketball Centre was previously called the WA Basketball Centre and is a purpose built Basketball Centre. The Stadium boasts eight courts with a Show Court that can hold up to 2,000 fans. Basketball WA is excited to showcase the venue with all Under 14 Club Championships games being played here. The main Show court arena is air conditioned and the other main court arena has large ceiling fans over each of the six Courts. There is a Café located in the middle of the main Complex and we have ATM and Eftpos facilities. 2015 AUSTRALIAN UNDER 14 BOYS CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS Admission Charges Admission Details The pre-purchasing of weekly tickets will be Ticket Daily Weekly via Basketball WA’s website by end of August Family Pass and available until Friday 25 September. $35 $155 (2 Adults & 2 Children) Pre-paid tickets will be available for collection Adult $15 $80 at BBC from Friday 25 September. Court Hire Cost The majority of the West Coast Waves squad have now arrived in Perth and we are looking forward to seeing the new look team under coach Kennedy Kereama play some great basketball during the season. SBL Kicks101 Grand 7 Final It would be remiss of me not to mention the current issue with proposed court hire increases at the WA Basketball Centre. From 1 July this year, the cost of court hire has increased by over $100,000. A similar Brett’s Blurb 10 increase is proposed from 1 July 2013. The sport cannot afford this.

VenuesWest employs over 225 full-time equivalent staff physically located in the following venues: Challenge Stadium In 1986, VenuesWest‟s first venue, Perth Superdrome, was built with its primary focus being a commitment to help develop elite sport and athletes in their pursuit of excellence. Now known as Challenge Stadium, the facility is currently home to a myriad of activities - including: elite sport, public and competition aquatic facilities, concerts, childcare, functions, events plus health and fitness facilities. Midvale SpeedDome The Midvale SpeedDome provides training and competition facilities for cycling and rollersports in Western Australia. The SpeedDome opened in 1989 and is Perth‟s only combined indoor velodrome and rollersports complex. Arena Joondalup Built in Perth‟s northern suburbs in 1992, Arena Joondalup provides multi-purpose sport, recreation and aquatic facilities for the local community.

Challenge Stadium commenced operation in 1987 and is now visited by over 900,000 customers each year. It hosts international, national, state and local athletics meets for both senior and junior levels, school athletics carnivals, training sessions and a variety of functions and events. It was terrific to see so many of our Country Associations competing in the Country Championships at various levels, culminating in the seniors weekend over the long weekend in March. Congratulations to all those who achieved success and a big thank you to everyone who participated and travelled to Perth to enjoy both the basketball and social aspect of the championships. The SBL Blitz (pre-season) tournament was also held over the long weekend with clubs afforded the opportunity of getting some match practice prior to the regular season commencing. The Waves Board have appointed Kennedy Kereama (current Tall Ferns coach) as the new coach for two seasons. Kennedy has met with the Waves Board, Basketball WA staff and Waves players and has already taken steps to implement off season training programs. More information can be found within this issue of the West Coast Bounce. The BWA AGM will be held on Sunday 22 April 2012, followed by a two day Association Conference on Monday and Tuesday 23 and 24 April. The conference will deal with topics such as Governance, Finances, Volunteers, Committee meetings, Fundraising, Marketing and Event Management to name a few. There will be plenty of practical resources provided including easy to use templates. Attendance is free for our Affiliated Basketball Associations and any of their Basketball clubs. I would strongly encourage all of our Associations and Clubs to attend this terrific opportunity.

    MEDIA RELEASE PERTH LYNX TO ENTER NEXT PHASE OF GROWTH The Perth Wildcats and Basketball WA wish to announce that the two organisations have come to an arrangement to transfer the Licence for the Perth Lynx back to Basketball WA for the 2020/21 season so as to commence the next phase of the redevelopment of the women’s pathway program. Five years ago Jack Bendat took ownership of the Perth Lynx to assist the women’s game to become more professional and sustainable at the national level and build a product and program that can provide for the aspirations of young female basketballers across the state to compete at the national level. Jack’s vision has been achieved as the team has gone from strength to strength playing off in four finals series, including a grand final appearance in its first year. The objective was always to support the women’s program to reach new levels of professionalism and provide a solid base to ensure the long term sustainability for the program. Basketball WA can now take a professional program and entrench it in the community basketball fabric to ensure its long term success. BWA CEO Rob Clement said “Basketball has a lot to thank Jack Bendat for and his investment and leadership in our Perth Lynx program has been exemplary, we now look to embrace our broader basketball community to consolidate the work done by Mr Bendat and the Perth Wildcats team to ensure the teams long term success and viability, we thank Mr Bendat for his leadership and contribution to the sport.” Basketball WA is now looking towards the 2020/21 season and working with a range of stakeholders to discuss the future structure of the program and look forward to making some announcements soon.
