The WABC hosted the year’s second WABL Junior Development Carnival on Sunday July 27. A total of 34 teams of under 12’s competed on the day, increasing slightly from the number that competed in 2014’s first JDC. Once again the day proved invalu- able for the future WABL players and their parents’, with players gaining more experience in the use of stop-clock timing and scorers improving their skills in the Stadium Scoring software that is used throughout WABL. Once again all teams played a total of 3 games against teams from varying Associations, and the day ran smoothly. The year’s final JDC is expected to be big- ger again, and will be held at the WABC on Sunday the 24th of August.

WNBL Survey: Have your say on the league

Basketball Australia, in conjunction with the Australian Sports Commission, is con- ducting a review of the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL). The WNBL has operated for over 34 seasons and the aim of this review is to determine the optimal competition model that meets high performance, participation and promotion outcomes.

Basketball Australia values the views of all those involved with the game in Australia and would appreciate your assistance in completing this short survey about the WNBL. The survey is not expected to take longer than 10 minutes to complete. Once you have completed the survey, you will have an opportunity to win your choice of a signed Jayco Opals or Boomers 2014 World Championship singlet. The winner will be randomly selected after the survey closing date of Monday 18 August 2014 and contacted by email.

PMBL – Grand Final Results and the New Season

The PMBL’s Winter season wrapped up on the week of the 21st of July, meaning a new set of Champions were crowned. As per usual, some games went right down to the wire with the Tuesday Men’s Division 3 B Final between United and ABS Heads ending up as a 3-on-3 duel as players from both teams got into foul trouble. Regular season MVP’s were also announced dur- ing the presentation; awards that resulted from the referee’s voting for each game’s three most valuable players over the course of the season. See below for a full run-down of the Winter season’s Champions, Runners-Up and season MVP’s.

As one season drew to a close, the next season filled up faster than ever. The Spring PMBL season is now well and truly under- way with nominations for the competition reaching capacity faster than ever. The popularity of the competition continues to increase, illustrated by the number of teams now on the waiting list hoping for an opportunity to join. The Spring season will carry the teams into November, with Grand Finals scheduled for the week of the 17th.

The PMBL is pleased to announce the addition of the Super-League – a new Division within the competition boasting fully- timed quarters, shot clocks, and cash prizes for the Champions and Runners-up. The Super-League will only consist of 8 teams with games to be played on Tuesday nights over the course of the SBL off-season. Starting in September and running through until the Christmas closure, the Super-League will host some exciting games thanks to teams from SBL Associations as well as some of the PMBL’s best-performing teams.

To keep up-to-date with everything that’s going on in the PMBL and WABC, like us on Facebook (BWA Perth Metro Basketball League) and check out the competition website www.pmbl.asn.au. 11. Perth Metro Basketball League
