Dr. G.P.C.Nayar Our priority should be to grow at 10 percent per year for 10 years --- Dr.Subramanian Swamy Dr. Subramanian Swamy MP and Chairman, Board of Governors, SCMS COCHIN School of Business addressed the PGDM students on the topic, ‘Regaining India’s Economic Legacy,’ on October 5. The talk was based on Dr.Swamy’s latest book – RESET: Regaining India’s Economic Legacy. India was the most developed country economically right for thou- sands of years, for at least 10,000 years, he said. Up to 1750, India was considered as the most developed country of the world. We were ahead of anybody by leaps and bounds until about 1200 AD. After that, Islamic invasion took place which was followed by the British colonisation. As a result, India started going down. During the British rule the resources of the country were taken out of the country. It was so substantial. My calculation shows it was to the tune of $ 71 trillion. The industrial revolution that took place in the western world was not allowed to come to India by the Britishers. The important periods that contributed to the formation of what we are today were: (1) the period from 1870 to 1947, (2) from 1950 to Dr.Subramanian Swamy MP and Chairman, Board of Governors, SCMS CO- 1990 when the planning method from the Soviet Union was utilised CHIN School of Business addressing the PGDM students. by Jawaharlal Nehru, (3) during early 1990s the two Prime Minis- ters, Chandrasekhar and Narasimha Rao, transformed our growth percent by growing at 8 percent per year, and (4) then again when rate and put us on a wholly new path from a growth rate of 3 these two PMs went economy was again on a stagnant path. Kochi Biennale Foundation ANNUAL REPORT 2014-15 1st April 2014 to 31st March 2015 2 \ Kochi Biennale Foundation Annual Report 2014-15 \ 3 4 \ Kochi Biennale Foundation President’s Message On behalf of the Kochi Biennale Foundation, I have the honour to pres- ent the Annual Report of the Foundation for the year 2014-2015. The Au- dited Balance Sheet of the Foundation for the year 2014-15 is an integral part of this Report. The Year under Report has been truly a Biennale year for the Founda- tion. The Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF) was proud to host the second edition of Kochi-Muziris Biennale (KMB) under the curatorship of Jitish Kallat. The KBF’s mission is to draw from the rich tradition of public action and public engagement in Kerala, and build a new aesthetic that integrates both the past and the present. Kochi’s cosmopolitanism has been worn by generations of Keralites as a badge of honour. We invited Jitish to envisage a Biennale that responds to the environ- ment that hosts it, which led to ‘Whorled Explorations’, a non-linear and layered meditation on the world we inhabit today. In its second edition, KMB maintained its unique character by yet again choosing an artist as the curator celebrating its legacy as an artist-initiated project. Getting here has been anything but easy. For the first edition of the Biennale, Kerala Government financed it to the tune of Rs 9 Cr. For the Second Edition, similar substantial support was promised and Rs 3 Cr. has already been released.
