The Performance of Domestic Airlines for the Year 2016
Subject: Performance of domestic airlines for the year 2016. Traffic data submitted by various domestic airlines has been analysed for the month of September 2016. With the liberalization of the Indian aviation sector, a rapid revolution has undergone in Indian aviation industry. Primarily it was a government-owned industry, but now it is dominated by privately owned full service airlines and low cost carriers. Around 75% share of the domestic aviation market is shared by private airlines. Earlier only few people could afford air travel, but now it can be afforded by a large number of people as it has become much cheaper because of stiff competition. The civil aviation traffic has seen an unprecedented traffic in the past few years on account of booming Indian economy, growing tourism industry, and entry of low cost carriers in the private sector, liberalization of international bi-lateral agreements and liberalization of civil aviation policy. In future also the civil aviation traffic is expected to grow at the same pace despite current slowdown due to global recession. But airport infrastructure has not kept pace with the growth of the civil aviation traffic. This has resulted in congestion and inefficient services in major airports, limited landing slots, inadequate parking bays and congestion during peak hours for airlines. Development of quality infrastructure will have an impact on international competitiveness and economic growth. This requires faster development of civil aviation infrastructure on public private partnership mode. -

CORPORATE BUDDHA This case study is prepared by Team Think Tank Flight of the Phoenix The Indian Aviation Industry “Indian aviation market is the 9th largest in the world with size of US$ 16 Billion and has a potential to become the third largest by 2020 and largest by 2030.” Nobody would have predicted this in 1912, when the first air route between Delhi and Karachi was established. The first major development in the sector happened in 1953, when nationalization of Indian Airlines (IA) brought the domestic civil aviation sector under the purview of Indian Government. But government took the first major step in 1990, with its Open Sky policy and various other liberalization policies. In the year 2000, many private players started entering the Indian Aviation Industry, and it still is an attractive sector with great market potential and drivers, like: Foreign Direct Investments in domestic airlines Low Cost Carriers (LCC) Modern airports and a growing emphasis on No-Frills Airports (NFA) Cutting edge Information Technology (IT) interventions Despite all these initiatives most of the airlines operating in India are incurring losses. These losses are due to high operational cost, High cost of aviation turbine fuel, High service tax and other charges and Shortage of maintenance facilities. Present Scenario In the second quarter of 2015, domestic air passenger traffic surged by 19.2 per cent to 20.3 million from 17 million in the corresponding period a year ago. Total passenger carried in June 2015 increased at a rate of 13 per cent Y-o-Y to 8.8 million from 7.8 million in June 2014. -

INTRODUCTION Introduction Insurance in India has taken galloping stage. It has maximum growth rate of 56.99 percent in 2006 in world after Liechtenstein (61.58%). Recently De-Tariffing since January 1, 2007 have facilitated the insurer to serve the society with quality and lowest cost in the NOTES competitive environment. Now insurance is not limited only to life and Introduction property risks; it has expanded its scope to insure all the uninsurable risks. It has innovated avenues to manage all the risks attached to business industry, agriculture, transport, banking and credit, health, catastrophe, liability, guarantee and surety bancassurance and corporate governance. DIRECTORATE GENERAL OF CIVIL AVIATION INDIA SAFETY OVERSIGHT PROGRAMME 2014 (ANNUAL SURVEILLANCE & REGULATORY AUDIT) DGCA-INDIA SAFETY OVERSIGHT PROGRAMME 2014 FORE WORD India is a contracting State to the Convention on International Civil Aviation and a member of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), DGCA India has an obligation to promote safe, orderly and efficient operation of Civil Aviation activities. To meet State obligations, DGCA has laid down national regulations to ensure compliance with various Standard & Recommended Practices laid down by ICAO in Annexes to the convention. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is a regulatory body dealing with safety issues. DGCA is also responsible for regulation of air transport services to/from/within India and for enforcement of Civil Air Regulations, Airworthiness, Operations and Air safety. DGCA consists of Technical and Administration Directorates. Technical Directorates are; Airworthiness Directorate, Aerodr- ome Standards Directorate; Air Safety Directorate; Air Transport Directorate; Air Space & Air Navigation Services (AS & ANS) Directorate, Flight Standards Directorate, Regulations & Information Directorate; Aircraft Engineering Directorate, Flying & Training Directorate, Cabin Crew Safety Division & Dangerous Goods Division. Surveillance Enforcement Division (SED) in DGCA Headquarters is the office coordinating and consolidating the activities of ―DGCA Safety Oversight System‖. DGCA Hqrs. is located in New Delhi with Regional offices in the various parts of India. There are 14 (fourteen) Regional and Sub Regional Airworthiness Offices located at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Cochin, Bhopal, Lucknow& Kanpur, Patna, Patiala, Guwahati, and Bhubaneshwar. Apart from the Regional Airworthiness Offices, there are 5 (five) Regional Air Safety offices located at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad. -

www.ijcrt.org © 2018 IJCRT | Volume 6, Issue 2 April 2018 | ISSN: 2320-2882 A STUDY ON THE STATE OF INDIAN CIVIL AVIATION INDUSTRY CMA Dr. Samyabrata Das Associate Professor, Department of Commerce New Alipore College, Kolkata Abstract The role of civil aviation sector of a nation as a facilitator of social, economic, and cultural exchanges needs no exaggeration. Civil aviation plays a central role in the world trade. It acts as a catalyst to the tourism industry. It aids in the generation of employment directly and indirectly. As such, it contributes considerably to the economic growth of a country. In the last two and half decades, the Indian aviation industry has evolved from being highly regulated to a more market-driven sector because of liberalised aviation policies. In this background, the core objectives of the study are (a) To throw light on the current position of the civil aviation sector of India; and (b) To portray the future road-map of Indian civil aviation sector. The study is based on secondary data which have been obtained from different sources like journals, magazines, newspapers, reports, web resources etc. It is evident from the study that Air Passenger Traffic (APT) in India, both domestic and international, registered a positive growth from 2013-14 to 2016-17. During the period between 2006-07 and 2016-17 the capacity, measured in terms of available seat kilometre (ASK), in the domestic market recorded a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.58%. At the same period, the demand, measured in terms of revenue passenger kilometre (RPK), witnessed a CAGR of 10.03%.
