—ANNOUNCEMENT— CHANGES TO RECEPTION OF HOLY COMMUNION

Beginning December 1, the first Sunday of Advent, we will begin the implementation of our new changes in regard to the reception of the Holy Communion. We will now have 4 cups to receive the Precious Blood. The cups will be located as such: two in front of the altar, one in front of the ambo, and one in front of the Baptismal Font. The ambo and baptismal font cups will then move forward to the SE and NE corners of the transepts to continue serving communicants. The two bowl ministers at the transepts will retire their bowls after the communicants in the transepts have received. Communion will continue with communicants seated in the main body of the Cathedral receiving the Eucharist from the priest and deacon in front of the altar. For those receiving low gluten hosts, please come forward and around to the valley of the altar to receive. We feel confident that this will alleviate the congestion in front of the altar.

BUY A HYMNAL TO REMEMBER LOVED ONES St. John’s will be purchasing new permanent hymnals to replace the disposable missalettes that have been in use. This will save the cathedral both money and natural resources. For $20 each, you can sponsor one or more hymnals in honor of a loved one or family. Please contact the church office for more details. Labels will be placed in each sponsored hymnal to commemorate the memorialized friends and family.

CATHEDRAL WOMEN’S CONNECTION The year 2019 is winding down and parish families are gearing up for the “happiest time of the year!” The traditional Catholic liturgical Christmas Season with decorations, carols, and celebration begins the evening of December 24 and continues for The Twelve Days of Christmas ending the evening of January 6 on the Feast of the Epiphany. However, the modern approach in Catholic liturgy is to have the Season end on the evening of January 12, the Baptism of the Lord. This means the Cathedral will remain decorated and carols will be sung long after the "commercial season" ends on early December 26. Some young children might ask about this seasonal difference.

The CWC ministry will feature the coming of the Christmas Season by hosting Coffee Hours after the two morning Masses on Sunday, December 22. Our volunteers will wear the Season’s colors and provide a holiday atmosphere for all to enjoy. Special for the children will be a repeat of last year's popular table area for Decorating Christmas Cookies. Chair Judy Keplinger looks forward to assisting the children in that fun activity. ST. STATIONS OF LIFELONG CONVERSION

WELCOME TO YOUR ROMAN CATHOLIC CATHEDRAL PARISH OF ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST Our parish was founded in 1876, and we became the Cathedral for the Diocese of Boise in 1885. Life, both natural and supernatural, is God’s gift to each of us, and neither is a static or a one-and-done reality. As natural life develops and matures, the same applies to our supernatural life. Just as we participate and cooperate in our own natural development, so too do we participate and cooperate in the unfolding of the divine life within us. Accordingly we have developed what we call “Stations of Lifelong Conversion.” We Catholics get stations: literally with the Stations of the Cross and also the various repeating cycles such as the liturgical calendar that helps to remind us to keep our focus on the things that really matter. Every three months we move through each station as a reminder to work on this aspect of our spiritual formation. While God loves us for who we are, He loves us too much to leave us that way and that is why He continues to call us to more. These stations are adapted from a pastoral plan as developed by the U.S. Catholic Bishops. We’re happy to have you here at YOUR Cathedral: you belong here! Join us on this recurring spiritual journey as we grow our faith, working together to “build the Kingdom of God.”
