� AnnualAnnual ReportReport onon thethe EnvironmentEnvironment inin JapanJapan 20032003 Local Communities Leading the Transition to a Sustainable Society Ministry of the Environment To Our Readers This booklet was compiled based on the Quality of the Environment in Japan 2003 (White Paper), an annual report on the environment by the Government, published in accordance with a Cabinet decision made on May 30, 2003. The content of this booklet was edited to gear to a wider readership. The theme of this year’s White Paper is “Local Communities Leading the Transition to a Sustainable Society.” It introduces that daily voluntary activities carried out in local communities mark the first step in the transition to a sus- tainable society. The White Paper first shows the close interaction of the environment, society and economy, and the seriousness of the deterioration of the global environment. The Paper demonstrates that steady efforts at the individual and community levels will be essential for resolving global environmental problems. Individual actions are explored with an emphasis on the idea that if more individuals pursue environment-conscious activities, their activities will influence other actors, such as the government and businesses, and make it possible to reform the socio-economy as a whole. Initiatives by local communities are also examined. The Paper concludes that transition to a sustainable society is possible by (1) rais- ing the awareness of the whole community and building capacity (local environmental capacity) for the creation of a better environment and a better community, and (2) creating a model for protecting the environment and reinvigorating the community at the same time, and spreading the practice to other communities. -

(Definition of Terms) Article 2: Terms used within this user agreement are defined as follows, unless otherwise stated. (1) Designated rental car company: Company in the rental car business designated by the Company to rent out vehicles with which SEP can be used. (2) Designated ETC card: ETC credit card whose use is admitted for the SEP user by the designated rental car company. (3) Foreign person or equivalent: Foreigners with legal residence in Japan and Japanese holding a foreign permanent residency permit. Overview of Nippon Healthcare Investment Corporation To Our Investors Message from Executive Director We would like to express our deep gratitude to all our unitholders for your support of Nippon Healthcare Investment Corporation (“NHI”). NHI posted financial performance of 555 million yen in operating revenue, 224 million yen in operating income and 200 million yen in net income for the fiscal period ended October 2015 (3rd Fiscal Period). Concerning distributions, NHI declared a distribution amount per unit of 3,299 yen and a distribution amount in excess of earnings per unit of 768 yen, bringing the total distribution amount per unit to 4,067 yen. See page 3 for Financial and Management Highlights During the 3rd Fiscal Period, NHI acquired Minna-no-ie Omiya Yoshinocho (acquisition price: 740 million yen), Minna- no-ie Chuo-ku En'nami (acquisition price: 838 million yen) and Silver Heights Hitsujigaoka No.3 (acquisition price: 1,200 million yen). In addition, NHI acquired Alpha Living Okayama Nishigawa Ryokudokoen, Alpha Living Okayama Korakuen, Alpha Living Takamatsu Ekimae and Alpha Living Takamatsu Hyakkenmachi (total acquisition price: 2,550 million yen) with the capital gained through the public offering announced in October 2015, expanding the asset size from 13,280 million yen at the time of listing to 18,608 million yen. NHI will aim to enhance portfolio value through investments in carefully selected properties going forward. -
