Argentine politician, certified public accountant and lawyer, member of the Peronist Party. Mr. Fernández was born on 9 January, 1957 in Quilmes, Province of Buenos Aires, . He graduated from National University of Lomas de Zamora on 6 March, 1982 with a degree in accountancy. He graduated with a law degree in the same University on 19 December, 2001. Since the 8 July, 2009, he is Chief of Cabinet of Ministers of the National Government of Argentina.

Political Career

• Graduated with a degree in accountancy, he began his political career in 1983 working as an advisor to the Peronist block in the Committee of Budget of the Senate of the Province of Buenos Aires.

• Between 1985 and 1987, he worked as administrative secretary of the Peronist block in the Senate. Between 1987 and 1991, he held the position of administrative secretary of that institution.

• Between 1983 and 1989, he worked as an advisor to the Municipal Council of Quilmes; and between 1983 and 1988, he was advisor to the Municipal Council of Florencio Varela.

• In 1991, he was elected Mayor of Quilmes representing the Peronist Party, for the term 10 December 1991 to 10 December 1995. He was preceded by Eduardo Camaño and succeeded by Federico Scarabino.

• Constituent Assembly of the Province of Buenos Aires in 1994. President of the Committee of Electoral System, author of the eighth section of the reformed Constitution of the Province of Buenos Aires: culture and education, and Rapporteur in culture and education representing the Peronist Party.

• In 1995, he was elected Senator for the Province of Buenos Aires.

• In 1997, he was appointed Secretary of Government of the Province of Buenos Aires, during the Governorship of . • In 1999, he is elected President of the Quilmes branch of the Peronist Party. He was reelected in 2003. • During the Governorship of Carlos Ruckauf in the Province of Buenos Aires, he served as Minister of Labour. • When National Senator Eduardo Duhalde was , since 2 January 2002, Aníbal Fernández held the position of General Secretary of the Presidency and, as of October of the same year, he served as Minister of Production. • In 2003, he was elected National Deputy, charge to which he resigned to work together with President Néstor Kirchner, who won the 2003 elections. Mr. Fernández was appointed Minister for the Interior.

• He served as Minister for the Interior of Argentina from the 25 th of May, 2003 to 10 th of December, 2007. He was preceded by Jorge Matzkin and succeeded by Florencio Randazzo.

• As of the 10 th of December, 2007, after Cristina Fernández de Kirchner´s inauguration, he was appointed Minister of Justice, Security and Human Rights by President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. He held that position until the 8 th of July, 2009. He was preceded by Alberto Iribarne and succeeded by .

• On the 8 th of July, 2009, he was appointed Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner´s administration, after Sergio Massa resigned. He is currently holding that position.
