Out of these, only 9 genera and 70 species/subspecies were Department of Zoology, D.D.U. recorded from India infesting 940 plant species belonging to 138 families, out of which only 19 families Gorakhpur Universityersity, are monocot. Indian Aphidini are recorded mostly on the plant family Asteraceae (102 plant species), Gorakhpur, U.P, India followed by Fabaceae (96 plant species), Poaceae (92 plant species), Lamiaceae (46 plant species), Rosaceae (38 plant species), Solanaceae (34 plant species), Apocyanaceae (28 plant species), Rubiaceae (26 plant species), Malvaceae (25 plant species), Rutaceae (22 plant species), Cucurbitaceae (22 plant species), Polygonaceae (21 plant species), etc. Out of 70 described species of Aphidini from India, 14 species are monophagous; 40 species are oligophagous infesting 2 to 20 plant species; and 8 species are moderately polyphagous infesting 21 to 55 plant species while 8 species are highly polyphagous feeding on 55 upto 569 plant species. The present contribution provides updated checklist of Indian Aphidini with the valid scientific name of the aphids as well as their food plants. The Use of Suction Traps for Detection of Unwanted Invasive Insects and Other Invertebrates

SCOTT Crop & Food Research, Private Bag 4704, Christchurch, New Zealand Corresponding author: [email protected] ABSTRACT This paper reviews the potential for using suction traps, especially existing networks, to detect unwanted exotic insects and invertebrates invading new locations. Suction traps are thought to sample small, fragile, slow and weak flying insects better than other methods. Suction traps over 6 m high have been shown to catch invertebrates from at least 13 different insect orders and 87 different insect families as well as Acari (mites) and Araneae (spiders). Suction traps have provided the first location records for a number of aphid species and new records of invasive species. Several issues require attention if suction traps are to become established tools for detection of unwanted invasive organisms. These include minimising the cost of traps, developing rapid identification methods, establishing the optimum location of the traps and investigating the ability of suction traps to catch species in time for remedial action. INTRODUCTION Suction trap networks consist of a number of suction traps placed at strategic locations that continuously sample invertebrates from a fixed height above ground level. Samples are collected after a defined interval (e.g. days or weeks) and selected insects are sorted, counted and data collated. In New Zealand, six 7.5 m high suction traps have been erected at two sites in the North Island (Ngatarawa in Hawke’s Bay and Pukekohe in South Auckland) and four sites in the South Island (Lincoln, Hilton, Rokeby and Courtenay, all in Canterbury) (Teulon et al. -

Winged morphs of aphids were investigated from 2002 to 2004 in 4 Tunisian regions of potato seeds production in order to know the aphid diversity and the potential vectors of Potato Virus Y. This is a very important contribution to the knowledge of aphid fauna in Maghreb. A total of 50,030 aphids were caught using yellow water traps and one suction trap. 130 taxa were identifi ed including 103 species. Ten species are well represented in all regions prospected and typical species were also observed in every region. Some differences in species diversity appeared between regions which are discussed considering weather condition and vegetation. Résumé. La diversité d’Aphides (Hemiptera : Aphidoidea) en Tunisie en relation avec la production de plants de pomme de terre. Afi n de connaître les pucerons ailés potentiellement vecteurs de maladies de la pomme de terre (virus Y de la pomme de terre), des pièges ont été installés de 2002 à 2004, dans 4 régions de production de plants de pomme de terre en Tunisie. -
